We stayed in a villa with our families that came from around the world for a wedding. Having a cook, butler and housekeeper made the trip very relaxing. The restaurants in the hotel were not impressive and very slow service but eating at the villa was on time. If you stay at the villa take your cook and do your shopping at the supermarket, it is more cost effective, even after you pay for taxi.

My daughter and I have returned for the last 3 years - absolutely love Half Moon. Returned to Jamaica 18 times but Half Moon is far superior to anywhere there.

Sugar Mill is particularly brilliant for food quality and service (won award for best restaurant on Jamaica - All the restaurants have their own charm and exceptionally good food and staff, who know the difference between friendly and in your face.

Shall definitely return.

Room Tip: the cottage suites are superb and the maids are excellent on that side. plus overlooking the beach...

First thanks to Scott the manager for helping with our first suite it was appreciated, had he not moved us we were checking out early(1st room was 400 per night and It felt like motel) (See photos of 1st suite and then 2nd) The 1st suite furniture had reached its end of life and they were still holding on to it, carpet was worn with frills hanging on the side, couch back worn, walls although painted they showed cracks, bathroom had cracked tile, kitchen appliances old, curtains dated. The second suite was very updated but came with ants, molding in bathroom was discolored, my clothes had a moldy smell in my suit case even once at home but was better than old 1st room. They sprayed every time we called but seemed the ants would just move to another location (I could not move again so we dealt with the sugar ants and they sprayed them daily for us) . The first impression of the hotel lobby was cheap and gloomy. Ate lunch in the lobby and the jerk chicken was great, my son had an hot dog and we sent that back, how do you mess up a hot dog, bun was black on the bottom and the hot dog look sick. We later went to rent a golf cart and are fine with the $55/$65 a day fee but if something happens to the cart I agree to give you $200, no I don't agree, need to offer me insurance at an extra cost. Bikes were another option but they are so rusted I would not sit on those, keep them also. We contacted the bellman to pick us up when we needed a lift and they were always fast! We had wanted to try the children's center however it was also being use for local children's summer camp so we passed. Minibar attendant startled me as he came to the side door, any employee needs to use the front door once guest has checked in. I expected the hotel to have an old charm to it but I feel the charm is gone and it is time to renovate with new antique furniture as a start, new bikes, brighten the lobby décor, fresh flowers at the main lobby, update the lobby bathrooms, smooth out bad drywall repairs in rooms. Hotel has so much to offer, it just needs a facelift. Employees just seem like a job not really happy to me so no one stood out except the house keepers and front desk manager. Don't miss Robbies dining, this was by far the best food on site. Would not return if this place was free, husband said he needed a vacation from the vacation. Again I expected old charm and maybe a lizard sneaking in during the visit but this was too much. I selected the hotel solely for the dolphin and horse beach ride for our sons and had those not been beyond perfect this place would have been a nightmare. Hire a private driver if you want an excursion, rates are reasonable and great for a family.

Just spent a week in a 5 bedroom Villa in Half Moon Bay. Villa was great, clean, good size bedrooms, clean pool. Service was outstanding particularly, Venris, Esmie, and Dezreen, our butler, cook, and maid. Please ask for them if you book a Villa, which is the best way to enjoy this resort. Plenty of activities or a great place to just relax and do nothing. Definitely going back!

My husband and I stayed here to celebrate our anniversary from 7/30-8/3/2014. Everything about our stay was first class. The grounds were incredible, beaches perfect, rooms pristine; but what stood out to us above all else was the incredible service from every staff member. They went above and beyond our requests and always with a smile. And always remembered our names! We both enjoyed one of the best massages ever in the spa on the property as well.
The highlight was our dinner at the Sugarmill. It was one of the best meals we have ever had and again, the service was superior. Our waitress, Shirlee, even serenaded us as she served a complimentary dessert in honor of our anniversary. They also had a great wine list with decent prices. We highly recommend this resort and definitely plan to return!

Dear Valued Guests:

Thank you for choosing Half Moon, A Rock Resort for your recent vacation and for sharing your beautiful review on tripadvisor; it was a pleasure serving you as our treasured guests. We are happy you enjoyed some of the amazing amenities we offer; our 68,000 square feet Fern Tree Spa, the largest of its kind in Jamaica, offering a range of services and amenities that are quite simply first class. We are delighted you both enjoyed the experience.

Happy you relished your dining experience at the Sugarmill Restaurant – the talented Jamaican chef Christopher Golding knows how to create the inspirational menu that not only tantalise the taste buds but as in your case, simply unforgettable.

Many thank for the kind compliments for the staff particularly Shirlee, the staff members are truly the ones who learn the idiosyncrasies of our many guests and make their visit really special.

Again, thank you for taking the time to share your Half Moon experience – we certainly look forward to the pleasure of welcoming you back ‘home’ soon.

Over the past 3 years, the Half Moon has been our getaway for both romantic one on one time, and family fun. The resort is luxurious, yet relaxed. The staff is very attentive and kind, and quickly come to know their guests on a first name basis.

Our family visited the resort, where our 4 and 7 yr old children rode horses each day, visited dolphins, bicycled (the resort supplied training wheels and helmet), played mini golf and tennis, spent many hours in the childrens village and splashed in the pool. The only difficult part was explaining it was time to go to bed. Thankfully all these activities (and many more) are on the resort grounds.

To make things even better, the resort has wonderful nanny services with people who are trustworthy and caring (especially Nicki). The kind you aren't afraid to leave your children with to have some adult time.

Food is wonderful and plentiful. Beware of the breakfast buffet. It is so good, you will need to take a few fitness classes to shed the extra pounds.

We have always stayed in an imperial room but they are all good. Each room is just about on the beach, and I suggest you book a ground floor room to fully enjoy the resort beauty.

Now for the warnings. Don't go if fun is not on your agenda. Be prepared to spend many future hours talking with your spouse about the great time you had. Definitely do not stay at the Half Moon if you are looking to complain. They present nothing but perfection.

Enjoy your stay.

The Villas are older and have no AC in the common areas but they have large bedrooms with AC. The staff at the Villas went well beyond what was expected and made our stay...the best vacation ever. The cooks were exceptional and made us what ever we wanted and we even had traditional Jamaican food. The prices at the commissary and hotel bar are much higher than the local grocery store but what would be expected for any hotel.

We requested two 5 BR villas next to each other but they gave us two 6 BR that were right next to each other, which made it very easy to go from one villa to the other.

Room Tip: Villas have no AC in the common areas but staff was excellent and food was great.
