“Excellent vacation!!”
Reviewed 22 March 2014

Just returned from a fabulous week at SRC!!! The property is just beautiful and spread out yet small so that you are just steps from the beaches, pools, bars, and restaurants/grills! I travelled with my family, all adults, so despite the primarily couples resort we all had a blast and myself/sister were never singled out due to not being their with a significant other.

Island
We went to the island about 4 days out of the week and loved the quiet, gorgeous views around the whole property! How can you pass up being 10 steps from the bar/swim-up bar? Our drinks of choice were the Dirty Banana, Jamaica Smile, Piña Colada, and St James. Shout out to Owen and Samantha at the island bar for blending up our drinks and always having a smile!! The Bamboo Shack was perfect for lunch on the island with the breezes coming in off the waves as well as delicious jerk chicken everyday!!! We also went snorkeling on the back side of the island (at the clothing optional part) and saw some of the best fish, this is a hidden jem to the resort for sure! From sea urchins, puffer fish, lion fish, angel fish, and many other yellow striped and rainbow fish, it was a treat to basically snorkel everyday without having to sign up or take a boat our to a reef!!!

Restaurants
We loved the Regency for dinner/breakfast and ate there about 3 times for dinner, how can you pass up dinner on the deck over looking the ocean, absolutely stunning!! Shout out to Gregory and Deon who gave us the best service and birthday celebration for my brother!! We also enjoyed Eleanor's on our last night at the resort and loved the seafood entrees!

We booked the caribbean Deluxe rooms in the Arundel building and it was good, nothing over the top but clean, updated and a short distance from the center of the resort! Just a staircase away from the Almond stage, Regency, beach, and 2 pools!!

After the nightly entertainment we had some fun times at the Piano Bar with the awesome bartenders who showed us such a unique experience 'after hours'!!! Special shout out to Adrian and Jagan for supplying us with way too many beverages for our own good and constant love every time we walked in! They remembered our names after the first night and were VERY welcoming with huge smiles!! I cannot wait to return to Sandals Royal Caribbean, to be less than 10 minutes from the airport and be in true paradise! Maybe next time with my own boyfriend to feel more inclusive into the couples atmosphere!

We visited Sandals Royal Caribbean Resort and Private Island (SRC) March 8 – 15, 2014. This was our 13th visit to this property spread over 10 years. We stayed in the Crystal Lagoon Honeymoon One Bedroom Butler Suite with Private Stairway – PS category room. This is our favorite room because it has the private balcony, larger, double sink bathroom, rain head shower, hot tub, and close by covered walkway in the event of rain with close proximity to restaurants and entertainment. For our days we alternated sunning either on the beach out front of the Balmoral building or in the clothing optional section of the Private Island…our usual routine. We scout out the days using the Daily Breeze newsletter when there will be lots of weddings (the Balmoral beach is a prime location) and make a point to head to the c/o section on those days.
Once again we had the pleasure of being attended too by Ellis and Hughill as our Butlers. How much more can we say about these two consummate professionals? They attended to our every need and desire. Restaurant reservations, drawn baths, towel art, setting up our sun loungers in our favorite spots, stocking our cooler to our request, and our special last morning breakfast are but a few of the things they did. Their dispositions are always sunny, and bright. No SRC visit for us would be complete without these two.
A few other staff members to note…Janice took outstanding care of us in the Regency. Petra Gae over at the Mariner’s Grill always had a smile, a hug, and a ‘Can I do anything for you today?” attitude. Tashawn and Okley are two very attentive members of the leadership team. Owen was masterful at the Private Island bar. Verna was my ‘go to’ person at the Mariner’s bar. As always, Neville was all over the pool in front of the Clarence block. Michael the gardener always had a smile during our morning power walks. Eric in maintenance…is he everywhere…all the time? And the entertainment staff…from Ginger, fearless leader, to her hench people, Storm, Chico, Hollywood, Kermit, Queenie, and Jessie (new intern) they helped us laugh, cry, smile, and just have a wonderful time making memories. Singing in the piano bar, dancing at the Almond Terrace, it was a great time. Hollywood played some killer old school disco (but you gotta get some Earth, Wind and Fire in that computer!) in the Cricketer’s one night and the place was jumpin’! Or Kevin (Big Bird in the Cricketer’s). I call him an adjunct member of Ginger’s team. He may be in ‘food service’…but make no mistake…he’s an entertainer too! Each evening we kept saying…’we gotta go to bed’…but then one of the team would give us another reason to party some more.
What’s new since our last visit in September 2013?
1. A new over the water cabana is being constructed about 50 feet off the shore of the textile beach on the Private Island. I’ve posted a picture. Still under construction while we were there but it looked close to being ready for guest use.
2. The jet ski ban continues in Jamaica, so no loud jet ski traffic out front of the rope line off the main beach.
3. At all the pools on the main property and private island, those back breaking blue or tan plastic webbing sun loungers have been replaced by lay flat woven loungers, with cushions. So now you can lay completely horizontal when laying on your tummy. Yeah! Please replace all remaining sun loungers on the beaches (Private Island too!) with this variety if possible?
4. A productivity improvement for staff was the swim up pool bar at the main activity pool was open for preparing guest dinner drinks in addition to the main Almond Terrace bar during evening dinner time. So now, say, Eleanor’s wait staff don’t have to walk all the way to the Almond Terrace to get diner’s drinks. Saves a lot of cycle time and walking, speeding up service. It was noticed by us. Nice touch for speedier service.
5. It seemed like the roving photographers were far less intrusive this time…but if you wanted a photo op…they were there. Not sure of any real changes, just our impression.
6. I love the hot sauces options that used to be available on the tables at the Mariner’s Grill. Now apparently, if you want something other than ketchup…you’re out of luck? Only ketchup available at the table.
7. Also a small thing, but we like to drink champagne in our room. It would appear as though the in room ice buckets that have historically been provided are no longer? I know…we should have asked, but we didn’t. Shame on us. But they are nice, so if they have been permanently removed…please reconsider.
8. The Private Island clothing optional section is one of our favorite spots for daytime sunning. Not for everyone for sure…but if it’s chill you seek, this is the place. So relaxing and peaceful. One minor suggestion/question…can landscaping top off the and trim back the trees on the northern face of the c/o section a bit? The trees cast a shadow over almost the entire sunning area…making laying out in the sun a challenge. So taking a bit off the top will help increase the amount of sun area while not completely removing shade.
9. Off the main beach there are two floating mats that resemble donuts. Guests just climb over the side and float in these. I tried them out and they are a nice way to stay cool and float in the ocean. The bottoms are porous so you do get wet sitting in them. Picture posted with the review.

One other thing happened and, and for us, falls in the minor annoyance category. For one day, the Private Island was taken ‘out of guest use’ by a private party that was sponsored/paid for by a local organization. We hope that Sandals doesn’t make this a weekly type occurrence. Taking a major part of the resort away from general guest use, for a full day, is something that I would guess if it becomes more commonplace will start to raise some hackles. We just decided to chill on the main property that day, so no big deal…but if this had happened, say more than once during our one week visit…or if it starts to become a general pattern. I don’t think this is gonna fly with most or at least a larger proportion of guests?

For dinners we visited The Regency, La Jardinere, Eleanor’s, returning guest dinner, Cucina (over in Sandals Montego Bay Resort), Carlyle (at Sandals Carlyle), and The Royal Thai. Reservations were honored to the minute. Without exception service speed, pace, professionalism was spot on. Alas, the flaming bananas desert at The Carlyle is now a victim of a guest mishap. Not surprised I guess. Still served, but no longer served with the flaming show. And Mrs. SRCFan still says the rack of lamb in La Jardinere is the best she’s ever had. And we both love the baked oysters at The Regency. Some night I’m just going to order about 10 orders for my entire meal. But then I’d miss the charred tenderloin. Talk about a dilemma. We experienced some nice touches along the way at many restaurants. For example; We were seated kind of by ourselves, on the deck at the Royal Thai, under the stars on a beautiful night. Very romantic with stunning views of the countryside. Our table at The Regency, out on the deck, was scattered with flower petals. We met a wonderful new employee, Marvin, at the returning guest dinner. Only on the job a couple months in the resort’s accounting department…he was great.

Overall, another wonderful visit. Wipe the smiles from our faces. Mrs. SRCFan was crying again on departure day so you know we had a memorable experience. Our September, 2014 visit countdown has begun.

We stayed here in March for the first time and had our wedding here. I'm going to start with the bad part but keep it as short as possible. The wedding did not start smoothly and things that were ordered in advance were initially not delivered creating some last minute major stress before the wedding, setting our wedding back almost 45 minutes (which is a very big deal considering we paid an extra 600$ US for the sunset hour). Our complaint was with the on-site wedding planner who didn't plan much with us at all. I would suggest if you get married here make sure you carefully go over the items you ordered and get a chance to SEE them to assure no mistake was made in advance. I could go on with a laundry list of what went wrong, however I already addressed it with management and I am happy to say that once the wedding started it was BEAUTIFUL, the minister was great, and the photography and video are amazing, beyond our expectations. The photos represent the paradise they were taken in and look like they were from a brochure. Shout out to Will Wisdom and our videographer (can't remember his name now), also my hair and makeup pro Charmaine (such a sweetheart and I LOVED the curls!) and the ladies that did the moms' hair and makeup for such good work. Also, I found management to be awesome in bringing in a team to help out when things were going awry and pulling it all together, hiccups and all. Management also compensated us for our troubles with some extra services, including spa treatments and all the photos we expressed interest in on disc. Short of being able to go back in time and undue the stress that occurred, they provided great customer service and we were satisfied with what was done for us.

Food was AMAZING. We had no problem eating at every restaurant there at least once. Never had a bad meal from the buffets, to the lobster, to the pizzas, the fish and chips, the Jerk chicken and Thai, we ate good and we are EATERS.
Drinks were also top shelf and top notch. All the bartenders have their own specialties and although I'm a rum and a coke kinda gal, I was converted to fancy shots, blended and girly drinks for the week, so delicious!

Entertainment was pretty good, especially the bands that came in and that opera singer - wow! I read a lot about this fellow Kermit on tripadvisor beforehand and I can certainly see why now, he is a real personality, an absolute gem. The resort dies down around 11 or so which is fine with us, as we are more of daytime partiers anyways. There are options for later night folks, like the sing along piano bar and the little pub.

Our favourite part of the resort was the private island. So much beautiful sea life at your feet near the shore, but watch out for the sea urchins! the beach and pool there are gorgeous and we enjoyed our favourite bartender Gavain's daily creative concoctions. Huge shout out to Gavain at the island bar! Night entertainment on the private island, like was advertised, would have been nice but there was none while we were there (just a private party one day resort guests didn't have access to).

We had butler service and although we didn't use them too much they were awesome guys, Ian and Orlando. Even without asking, we were often greeted with surprises in the room which was so nice. Due to the times we did need them, we saw Ian most of the time, and he did a lot of communicating to other parties on our behalf with wedding related things, and took on a lot of communication hassles for me, always courteous and with no worries indeed. Much RESPECT to Ian!!!!

Butler service would be great on a special occasion or when you really want to get pampered. But since we're not the being pampered type (yet) not sure if we'd use it on every future visit. It was very helpful and nice to have because this was a wedding trip. Both sets of our parents travelled with us and had Basic Poolside rooms and received just as good drink service by the pool, an endless supply of towels (which there seem to be a shortage of around the resort) and their rooms were bigger. For the 1500/wk difference I think you would really have to want your butlers waiting on you. Our room was also a "swim up" room which really just meant it had a pool out front, which our parents also had without paying the extra 1500 bucks. Their check in was actually even faster than ours and they had access to Club sandals lounge, etc. and restaurant reservations. Also, butler service does not include private transfer to and from the airport as advertised, we were on a bus with everyone else including people from the other resort on the way. I really think the value in the room category comes down to how much you think you will use your butler.

Anyways this would be a 5 star review but I had to dock one star for the the wedding issue. However, since we do plan on coming back I am sure there will be 5 star review in the future from us, hopefully sooner than later. Thanks Sandals RC!

Room Tip: We had a "swim up" room and it was very quiet and nice. However for 1500 less per week our...

We just returned from our Sandals vacation and want to say we had a great time. The small size of the property made for a great time to interact with the super friendly staff. Jagen at the piano bar, Dominque at the beach bar, Nicola at the pool bar (you must try her SKY JUICE that is made with love), Maria at the gift shop, Antoinette and Dwanye in the photo shop, Kermit with the activity staff, and the bar tender in the pub put on a great show. These are all people you should look for on your visits. A SPECIAL SHOUT OUT to Velentie with the water sports. The snorkeling and sailing were awesome and easy to do. You are in great hands if he is on your boat. The food was the best I've had at an all inclusive. The small size of the resort meant you could quickly get to the bathrooms, pools, restaurants and rooms. We were with a group so we could all get food in a different place and then meet in a central spot to eat. We took breakfast back to our room several times to eat on our patio since the buffet was so close. The down side of the cozy resort was limited beach if you enjoy taking long walks, that isn't going to happen. The fitness room had plenty of equipment and was never crowded. The front desk helped arrange a taxi to take us into town for shopping. We were perfectly safe with that excursion and enjoyed a chance to shop. There was one day when the locals set up their displays on the beach and there was at least 1 or 2 local craft tables set up each day for baskets or shells or wood work. There were always activities and the activity staff really were fun. The staff seemed to really enjoy their job and that really spilled over to the fun. I would recommend this location for a quick get away. If you are worried about the planes, they do fly over and close enough to drown out a few words of your conversation, but the limited frequency made it a non issue and sometimes not even noticeable when your were busy with other fun.

This was our first time at a Sandals resort and it was well worth the price. Sandals goes above and beyond in every way. The grounds were extremely well kept, constantly being cleaned and cared for. Our room was very clean, and well stocked. We had cold water one day and it was quickly resolved, we returned to having the water fixed and left for us was a fruit platter as well as cheese and crackers with a note apologising for the problem. Everything about the resort was great. The entertainment crew was fabulous, especially Kermit. We'd read about him on trip advisor and came across him on our first day there. We couldn't help but run up to him and say hello. He was so friendly and fun. We had great times with him dancing, playing volleyball, even on his day off he was on our catamaran cruise! That was a boat ride we will never forget, especially for him!! ;) Kermit went out of his way to include guests in activities during the day and at night, He was very entertaining to watch at the evening performances, you could see he gave 150% everyday. I wish I had that kind of energy. The other members of the entertainment crew were so energetic as well, and kept us laughing and having fun. When Chico and Hollywood were around you knew you'd have a good time. The entertainment crew made our trip. All of the staff is fantastic. Roderick the pub bartender was fantastic, he made all kinds of fabulous drinks and did some great tricks pouring shots!! All of the staff throughout the resort were so friendly and helpful, I can't say enough about the great people of Royal CAribbean.

I am a very picky eater and was nervous about going away. I had no problems at all finding things to eat, the variety at all of the restaurants was amazing. Getting reservations was no problems and service was always great. All special requests were honored without problem. WE also went to the Montego Bay SandalsI for some of there dinners and their food was great as well. The Italian restaurant was great. I have been on all inclusive vacations before and Sandals does a great job taking care of everyone. I highly recommend these resorts. This one in particular is smaller which was nice because you didn't have to walk far to get to the restaurants, back to your room or any place you might be looking for. The boat to the island was always available. The island is a great hangout. I can't wait to come back sometime soon, and look forward to trying the Beaches resorts with the kids. If you go make sure to say hi to Kermit for me, we sure do miss that guy!!

Room Tip: All rooms are in a good location, not just the pricey ones. Consider getting a butler or consierge...

Loved our stress free wedding here in March 2013. Had no guests but felt like we were family. Photography and videography is totally worth it. Our family loved the video when we got back home. The private island was our favorite spot... great little pool and bar that was never crowded and the clothing optional beach was fun and different. The only thing that bothered us was the inability to get into some of the restaurants that we really wanted. When booking our hotel, the restaurants offered were a main reason we chose this resort. I can't remember all of the restaurant names, but I know there were 2 which were completely booked for the entire week when we arrived which we were looking forward to. We went right to the booking spot when we arrived our first day too. First there was no one there so we waited about 20 minutes and her only response was "it's full". After our wedding we had to eat at the buffet which was a big disappointment. Nothing was available that day. I had hoped to have a nice meal at a fancy restaurant in my dress and even asked the rep that while booking and they said we'd have no problem getting a great reservation somewhere. Overall we'd love to go back someday, but for the money we wish we would get to experience all the restaurants we'd like every night.. not just when there's something open by chance.

Room Tip: Had the oceanfront, was great to hear the waves at night. Very quiet and away from night time partie...

This was our 3rd trip to this resort. Gets better every time. We have had the same butlers for all three and they were fantastic as usual. (Orlando and Ian) We had the Swim-Up Honey Moon Suite (Clarence Building 2109) again. The weather was perfect. The island provided a wonderful place to go swim, sun, and have a great lunch. We loved our room and location. Our butlers Orlando and Ian were always very attentive but not bothersome. Providing lots of extras at the right time. The room housekeeper (Shelly/Clarence Building) was in and out very quickly with great service. Service from the restaurants (Daniella/Regency), (Francina/Beach Grill) and Pool attendant (Neville/Clarence Building). Food was great and Sandals special functions (White Night and Beach Party) were really upscale. The Welcome back dinner was also 1st class. Enjoyed al the wonderful people we met. The gift shop had many nice things from resort wear to island delights. The staff there was also very helpful and friendly. We have booked two future trips.
One is for 2014 New Year's Celebration (8 days) and next March 2015 (10 days). Same room and same butlers. Really miss the pampering and can't wait to step of the plane again and enjoy the Jamaican island life again in Sandals Royal Caribbean. Way to go Mr. Grant. Hope to see you in December.
