“The Royal is Royal!!”
Reviewed 28 June 2014

We have had the pleasure of visiting this property the last 3 visits to Sandals Jamaica. Two weeks ago I celebrated my 50th birthday. The staff at the Royal are all so friendly and out going. We love to hang around the main pool and the service is awesome. A great big thank you to Jeffrey, Tracy-Ann, Neville and Verna for making my big day extra special. Odane at the Mariners service a great lunch with a awesome smile. See you all in November for some more LOVE!!

We honeymooned at Sandals Negril and were returning to Sandals for a shorter getaway.

LOCATION:
The resort is, as advertised, very close to the airport (less than 20 minutes). Which is exactly what we were looking for, since we were going to be there less than a week. If you are not from a big city near an airport this location may not be for you. There are planes flying overhead every few hours all day, every day. The good news is that this is so close the flight noise is very brief, rather than being near an approach to the airport (with noise that lasts for a while). Being from DC, the flight noise blends in the background. The flights stop before evening, and do not start too early.

SCUBA:
We arrived as open water SCUBA divers and decided to go for the advanced open water certification. Our instructor RJ was absolutely OUTSTANDING. He took us on some really great dives and provided the best diving experience we have had at Sandals. This dive shop is a great shop. Unlike Negril, this shop is right on the pier where the boat arrives, so hauling fins and such from the dive office is not far. The dive locations are not far providing more dive time and less boat transit time.

BARTENDER:
One of the best bartenders we have ever had in the world was working at the bar by the beach. Roderick is an extreme professional and a true asset to the staff. He is always up-beat, friendly, welcoming, and ready to make a new drink. We would go all over the resort and all the other bartenders knew immediately we were asking for a "Roderick Original Creation" when we would ask them to make a refill. We made a point to find out when and at which bar we needed to go to find him.

FOOD/OVERALL:
This property provided another wonderful experience and vacation. After our two amazing vacations, we planning our return to Sandals as soon as we can!

The only notes I would provide to the resort for improvement is regarding the Housekeeping and Groundskeeping. We were there at what I think is the 'less' busy time of year for the caribbean. That said, there was a lot of ground maintenance occurring. Most of the grass areas were mowed down and were being re-sodded while we were there. I know it has to be done some time, but it was something to note as a guest. Housekeeping (specifically room cleaning) could have been a bit better. For those future guests reading this, there was nothing specific of concern, just something that was a bit less than outstanding (as much as everything else was).

THANK you for a great vacation, we will be returning unless we find another Sandals location we like better.

Room Tip: Ocean view is most certainly better than the rest. If you get the far end of the resort, it is much...

When we arrived at the airport in Montego Bay we were greeted right away with kindness and escorted to the waiting area for the Sandals Royal Caribbean Resort.

Once we arrived at the resort we were offered refreshments, checked in, and given a quick tour of the resort. Everyone was very nice and helpful. My husband and I were traveling with friends, and both couples were given an upgrade in rooms to the club level. The rooms were very nice. My husband especially liked having and unlimited supply of Red Stripe beer in the room.

The beach was beautiful. It was not crowded so there was plenty of room to lay out and enjoy yourself. The guys enjoyed playing pool and beach volleyball daily.

Our favorite entertainer was Hollywood. We can't say enough about him. Hollywood was very talented. He could sing, dance, and play the piano. He was very entertaining. We talked to him on several occasions when he was not on stage and Hollywood was just an overall nice guy.

The drinks were great as well. Owen at the main bar always made excellent drinks. But all of the bartenders were great at helping you pick out a drink that you wanted.

The food was always plentiful! We really enjoyed Elenor's. The shrimp was delicious! The buffet (not sure of the name of the restaurant) was always good. The wait staff there was very nice.

While we were there we also went to the Dunn's River Falls. This was all arranged by the resort. It was amazing! Well worth the time and money. It would have been nice to have been told to take a waterproof camera for the falls and/or your personal camera for the trip to the falls. There were things that we saw that I would have liked to have gotten a picture of.

Overall our trip was AMAZING!!! Beautiful resort, great food, wonderful drinks, talented entertainers, friendly people, and an incredible experience! We loved our stay in Jamaica!

Overall our experience at SRC was great but we had come directly from Sandals Whitehouse and it was much quieter and much more remote. While the trip to and from the airport is about 70 minutes shorter to SRC than to Whitehouse, this is somewhat a negative as you hear and see the large commercial flights taking off while you are at the resort. With that said, we did an excursion that left from the Montego Bay Sandals and SRC's airplane noise is nothing compared to the constant airport noise at Montego Bay.

Food: Really good overall, we ate at the Royal Thai on the private island and the food was excellent. We also liked the French place off the main lobby and it was excellent, though I probably didn't appreciate it as much as I would have if we hadn't done the catamaran cruise right before it (too much rum) I also had the best "cottage pie" (similar to shepards pie) at the Pub.
We ate breakfast at the buffet every morning, very good selection, omelet bar, fresh fruit etc. The mimosas were a little light on the champagne.

For lunch we had pizza on the beach and also ate at the lunch place next to the pizza place.

Drinks- Beringer wines are their house wines and their liquor is top shelf.

Excursion- We did the sunset booze cruise through Island Routes (catamaran cruise) and they stopped at Margaritaville-- beware the drinks are VERY expensive, maybe $15-20 per person for just one drink-- we at least got the large size that let you keep the glass... They also have some water slides, etc which my husband and a friend took part in, but I stayed in the bar area at Margaritaville. They also bring you shots and take pictures which they want you to purchase for an exorbitant amount.

Scuba- My husband started his Scuba certification at Whitehouse earlier in the week and decided to pay the difference and get the deeper certification (to 60 feet) He LOVED his experience and Diesel his instructor.

Overall the pools were fairly quiet and there were plenty of chairs and floaties for anyone who wanted them. The pools and beach are both fairly small though. The main pool does get louder during pool volleyball but other than that it was pretty laid back.

If you can upgrade to a concierge room I would do so for the in room drinks and room service as well as the quicker and private check in process.

The room was nice, the bathroom was showing some age however, and it is not air conditioned so it stays pretty steamy after showers. I ended up doing my makeup in the hall right outside the bathroom. The A/C worked very well in the room and the fan was also a nice addition to move the air around. We had a balcony that overlooked the beach area and it was nice to sit and have coffee or a drink in the evening before or after dinner, also a good place to hang swimsuits etc.

Room Tip: Go for a Concierge room if available.

My husband and I were cruisers. We've visited most of the Caribbean Islands multiple times over the past 25 years. But after visiting Sandal's Royal Caribbean resort, I doubt if we'll ever cruise again. The Royal Caribbean's staff and service was outstanding! The playmakers (entertainment staff) were the best! Chico, Queenie, and Kermit made by birthday week amazing. The bartenders, especially Jaghan at the piano bar (ask for skittles and he'll amaze you) were awesome. The local entertainers, local crafters, and artists topped off a special week. The grounds are immaculate and absolutely lovely. We even enjoyed the charm of the resident peacocks strolling the lobby or peeping in our window. The food at every restaurant we tried was delicious, and the pub for nightlife was tons of fun. There is also a free shuttle to Margueritaville if you want more night life. The private cay was nice as well. Great snorking over there without going out on a boat and a clothing optional beach if that's your preference. Basically, you get everything you enjoy on a cruise, but with a much nicer room, more local flavor, and without the crowds. We've already booked another Sandals vacation.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask about the beachside rooms, because some have a walking path that goes right next to y...

My wife and I stayed at Sandals Royal Caribbean from June 7-14, 2014 and would not stay there again. We were married at Sandals Carlyle 30 years ago (right before it became a Sandals) and loved it there- see previous review from 2007) but decided to upgrade to SRC. This was a mistake since I do not feel it was worth the extra money. We did go to the Carlyle for dinner on the night of our Anniversary and wish we had stayed there.
Back to SRC- special shout out to the staff- Dezreen and Shanique in Club Sandals, Ashlee and Tracy-Ann taking care of our beverage needs(always with a smile and warm greeting) at the pool, Akim from Food Service plus the lovely lady who greeted us each morning at the Regency-sorry I dont remember her name. There were may other positive staff including the young man who cleaned the Kenningston pool each morning. He did a great job with a good attitude.

The problem is not with the staff but the breakdown in communication and follow through and mis leading claims-
1- Requested by email in advance to have a ground floor room in the Club Sandals Honeymoon rooms in Kenningston or 2nd floor. Put on 3rd floor with the only room with a tree blocking the patio view. Brochure and website shows a much better patio with larger furniture than is the fact.
2- Sink would not drain the entire stay despite 4 requests to have it taken care of.
3- No water pressure in the shower for 3 days due to a contractor hitting a water main- no compensation for the inconvenience.
4- Ordered Room service one morning for breakfast and they stated it would take an hour- after 90 minutes, we called back and they siad it would be another 15 minutes. Never did come.
Search discovered the normal hotel place on your door the night before room service card in a drawer so used that for the next morning and it came on time. No one bothered to tell us the system and did not know the card was there.
5- Dress Code for dining was confusing and the reality was not was was advertised.
6- Food in Eleanors was poor and you could not see what you were eating.
7 - Sandals takes great effort to advertise that they pour premium brands but that is not consistent. I asked to have the scotch and tequila switched out with Baileys and Jack Daniels and was told there would be an extra charge of $35 per bottle. Premium is Premium regardless of where it is poured!

Stayed a year ago at Jewell Runaway Bay and will be heading back there next time since Sandals is not worth the extra money

Room Tip: Insist you get what you requested. Avoid rooms near the main pool and food area unless you dont min...

I recently had the pleasure of staying at this resort for my wedding ceremony and honeymoon. Both my hubby and I were very pleased from the very first day. Upon arrival to the airport we were given refreshments in the Sandals lounge while waiting for the transfers to the resort. When we arrived we were warmly welcomed by Alrick the bell captain and given some delicious rum punch while we waited for our room to be ready. I won't bore you with every single detail, but just wanted to say that our wedding was handled very professionally and tastefully. All the little details I was worried about were handled with ease by Analicia, our wonderful wedding planner. We had the best photographer, Kemar and helping us with the selection process was Daliah who was so very patient and sweet with us as we went through so many photos. Special shout outs to Valecia, Chevon (the best chef ever - Regency restaurant), Paul, Matthew and Latoya who were such great servers and Trevor in housekeeping. Much appreciation also to DeWayne and to all the warm, wonderful, attentive workers there who made us feel very special. Our room was lovely, everywhere we went was immaculately kept, food was delicious and even the drinks were to our satisfaction. The beach is small, but was never too crowded and you get great service there too...no need to ever move to get drinks or food. We loved it so much that we'll definitely be going back for our 1yr anniversary. Oh, yeah, we did leave the resort two days....we took a tour that went to Ocho Rios and had tons of fun at Mystic Adventure and at Dunns River Falls. The next tour was with Dalton who took us to Sandals Negril, several marketplaces and to The Cave. Daltan was exceptional in sharing his vast knowledge of Jamaica and had us laughing continually. This Montego Bay Sandals is the best by far!!!
