This was part of our trip of a lifetime. We travelled from New Zealand to Jamaica and booked a swim up room to enjoy the pool and luxury sold by the brochures. We read the odd negative review and discounted them as disgruntled, but must now admit for us the place was terrible. Staff for the most part could not be bothered with our requests until we asked if we should ask the butler to sort the problem. It felt like this was a remedial resort to retrain wayward staff, particularly in the food and beverage department.
We had a problem with the room, in particular maggots which were promptly cleaned up, but they returned the second morning we were there and we were then told that we would be moving rooms, so had to pack everything, despite having a tour to nine mile that day, to move rooms and given 20 minutes to have our things packed. We would have been fine if they simply cleaned the maggots again and got to the issue sorted and told them that. We were told the room needed to be thoroughly cleaned to get to the bottom of the problem and we were forced to move room. The room was occupied by another guest when we returned from our tour that evening and we were moved to a room that was closer to the noise from the main pool.
Noise where we were staying meant that we in the end didnt leave the room. The throbbing bass from the main pool started about 9:30 in the morning and continued till around 10pm at night. If you want to party this is a great place, its not a romantic getaway however unless your idea of romance is intrusive noise most the day.
Food was very limited, and catered exclusively to the american tastes. High levels of sugar , low levels of vegetables and none of it has any authenticity to it whatsoever. We had decided to have dinner at the Thai Restaurant on the island as we like a good thai meal occasionally ( see my review of the thai restaurant in Port Douglas). We had expected some authenticity as I had noticed the resort had a thai chef, but the food was atrocious. It tasted so bad I didnt eat it , which is saying something for me.
In the end we complained to the management and ended up leaving the resort after 3 days. It was one of the worst experiences of my life, and I felt like I had absolutely wasted the tens of thousands of dollars we had spent travelling to Jamaica to stay at a premium resort. I did give the resort and Sandals an opportunity to try to fix what happened but they were unable to. Bottom Line: if you are looking to party then this is great, if you are looking for a romantic getaway, Sandals Royal Carribean is not this. Sometimes they simply dont get it right.

Room Tip: Dont Stay here unless you want to party

Hello and thank you for your review as we appreciate all of your feedback and it is always helpful hearing our guests' perspectives. Although many of our visitors have positively remarked upon their vacation at Sandals Royal Caribbean, we are never pleased to note that even one guest has returned home with even the slightest sense of dissatisfaction. We apologize if you found this particular resort to be a bit too lively as you were seeking a more peaceful ambiance. Each property does have its own unique atmosphere and our reservation agents are happy to recommend the property which will best suit our guests' differing vacation styles. It was also most surprising to hear that you found the staff to be less than amicable as we often receive such praise for their friendly disposition and it is most disappointing to note that your interaction with them did not reflect this general consensus. We also noted the challenges with your room which was most unfortunate as this is certainly not indicative of the norm as we run quite a regular and thorough pest control program at our properties to prevent such an occurrence. However, being in a tropical climate means we are susceptible to insect intrusion from time to time despite our best efforts to eradicate their presence. We are sorry if this matter could not be resolved without having to relocate you as we would certainly avoided further disturbing you at all and the team would only have done so if the treatment of the room would have posed more of an inconvenience. We of course try to see that our guests have their preferred accommodation in any event but due to the last minute room change due to the unforeseeable issue, we apologize if you were not assigned a room more to your liking. The team would have located you to a similar suite had one been available or even inquired if you could have been accommodated at one of our nearby resorts likely more in line with your expectations if possible with your consent but likely this was not an option due to occupancy. Your decision to depart after only three days is most regrettable as we are sure our team would have been able to turn your stay around if given more time to do so as they are more than willing to work with our guests to see that they depart feeling their money was well-spent particularly after such a long journey to be with us. We do hope that you will give us the opportunity to regain your confidence in our brand in the near future as we would like to display the true beauty and hospitality of our resort for which we are known.

We stayed at the Sandals Over-the-Water Villa for 5 days in March. Oh. My. Gosh. This trip was more than I ever imagined. The Villa is amazing. It is 1800 square feet of living space. The outdoor living area has so many different places to relax. A hammock, a comfortable circular swing with pillows, a couch and 2 chairs, an infinite pool with lighting that changes colors, and 2 chairs to enjoy the sunset on the lowest deck. Breath- taking sunsets. The staff was so thoughtful. A huge shout out to Danielle and Hugh. They met our every need. They found my husband the vodka he wanted even though it wasn't offered at the resort. They brought us cheese and crackers every night for the sunset. They took us to our restaurants at night, seated us and poured our first glass of wine. Every night, the bed was decorated, we had snacks (one night was cookies and milk, another night chocolate covered strawberries) our every need was met and exceeded. In the morning, we had our breakfast delivered and set up wherever we wanted. So relaxing. The glass floor was so awesome. We saw string ray swimming under it at night and lots of fish. We could walk down the stairs into the crystal blue water and snorkel with the gear provided. It was better than my words can describe. My only regret is ever leaving the room! I thought with the price tag that it would be a one time event. Nope. We are booked for November of 2019 and we are ready to go back sooner. I usually don't visit the same place twice as there are so many places to visit. But this...I would love it to be a yearly event. If you are considering going, do it! You will not be disappointed!

Room Tip: There are only 5 Over the Water Villas. They face the ocean and you feel like you are on your own private island.

We had an amazing time for our first trip to Jamaica! We stayed for 11 nights, the first 7 we stayed in the Romeo & Juliet walkout Butler suite, and Nicole and Nigi were our Butlers. They were very accommodating and had everything ready every time we got to our room or the pool! They paid close attention to what we liked and continued our preferences throughout our trip! We also met Trevor our first day, he was shadowing Nicole as a Butler in training. He was awesome our whole trip! We saw him multiple times since he has so many jobs there, and since we got to know him and see him so many times, we got to chat. The day we left he left a special surprise in our room. It was very thoughtful and beautiful reminder of the amazing trip we had! The room was great, very comfortable and spacious. Our only complaint was that the bed was very squeaky and loud! The last 4 nights we stayed in the over the water bungalows, they were amazing! I would definitely recommend the bungalows to anyone, it’s beyond and regular resort hotel, a step above. You feel like a celebrity, and you may be staying next door to one like we did! Hugh and Chantel were our butlers on the island and they were great! They were there with anything we requested, and were always smiling! They are one of the reasons that the Bungalows are a step above, because they go above and beyond!

I can’t express enough how the Staff made our trip better. If I hadn’t gotten to know the Staff so well the 12 days I was there, I wouldn’t have had such a great trip! We built a bond with multiple Staff members while we were there, and we feel like we left Jamaica with a few more family members. Warren is amazing, and soooo talented. When we left, he came to say goodbye, and it was a sad day for everyone. I felt like I was saying goodbye to a Brother. He went out of his way to make us feel special, and we had an amazing time hanging out with him, as well as Chico, Kevin (Big Bird), DJ Scratchy and Elmo! All of the Entertainment crew are awesome, they do exactly that, keep you entertained the entire time!

Kevoneil was so great to talk to and get to know. We have a shared love for Marvel Comic movies and it was fun talking about it with him. He was very accommodating with our cabana we rented for the day on the main land! The boat drivers to and from the main land were also great, and never complained about having to drive us back and forth all hours of the night! Jeffry was so great!

The grounds were nice, and the food was really good! The French restaurant is the best, and we loved the Jerk Shack, my Husband ate there almost everyday. I wasn’t as impressed with the pools, but you will get over that very quickly once you realize they are never really that packed with people, and you start drinking! I would recommend this Resort to anyone wanting to chill, meet new people and have a memorable experience!

We have had the BEST experience for our honeymoon here at SRC! Tomorrow is our last day and we are so sad to leave. We have had a super low key, relaxing vacation, which is exactly what we both love. We aren't super into the party scene or too many of the activities/excursions- we just wanted a beach, great food & drinks, and good service. Definitely got all 3 here at SRC. A few of the highlights from our perspective, coming here to SRC and Jamaica for the first time, and on a honeymoon:
- Room: We LOVED our Honeymoon Grand Luxury Butler Suite with Balcony Tranquility Soaking Tub - I'm not sure the building name, but we were room 3306. We had a good view of the ocean, although it was over the roof of another building. Our direct view was into a courtyard. The room was modern, very clean, and we loved the soaking tub options. I wouldn't recommend a soaking tub on the ground floor because so many people are walking past the room frequently that it isn't very private. Being on the third floor allowed us great views but reasonable privacy.
- Excursions: We only did snorkeling. Thanks to other reviews, we knew to bring our our snorkeling equipment since I am a germophobe. They do scrub the snorkels in soapy water prior to each guest's use, but I am really more comfortable with my own stuff. We went on a day where the sea was choppy due to wind and some tropical storms near the area, so it was to be expected, but the water was very rough. Once we were in the water and snorkeling, it was fun, but we got tossed around quite a bit and the 5minute boat ride to the site off of a reef was tough to manage since I easily get motion sick. We had our favorite snorkeling experience off of the private island beach. We saw a ton of really awesome, unique fish just feet from the beach. You are able to swim around from the clothing optional side to the front side of the island, so we just snorkeled there and had a blast. The excursion isn't necessary, but we are glad we tried it out and imagine it would be a lot better when the water is calmer. Those fill up VERY fast as there are only 3 per day, so if you'd like to go, be sure to book 24 hours in advance.
- Beaches: In our opinion, the beaches were great. Very clean, very few rocks, not a significant amount of seaweed. They are individually small, but we thought there were a lot of options to choose from in terms of whether you wanted a quieter beach, a more central location near a bar and dining, or the beaches on the island! The clothing optional beach was a really fun feature and we were surprised at how much fun we had over there. We loved that servers were out and about bringing drinks and treats to anyone who needed anything. Excellent service on the beaches near the bars/beach dining.
- Food: The Royal Thai dinner was our favorite. The pad thai was authentic and fresh and had a great taste. We had quick, attentive service there and enjoyed it the most of the restaurants we visited. The view is beautiful and we loved the open-air concept of the restaurant. We LOVED the pizza at Bella Napoli as well as the food at Jerk Shack! Pork, Sausage, Chicken, the "festivals," and the hard dough bread were to die for! So delicious!
- Service: OUTSTANDING. We LOVED Ellis- he offers great service, he is so friendly and attentive, and the best part is that we felt like he genuinely wanted to get to know us and ensure that we had the best possible experience in Jamaica. Our butler experience was outstanding. It is definitely worth the expense. Every single person on the property was so helpful, welcoming, and friendly. We were so surprised at the hospitality we experienced. Second to none.

Hopefully this is helpful to someone! We had a great time and can't wait to come back.
