“Christmas and New Year´s Eve”

We were at Sandals Montego Bay (SMB) last December to celebrate our wedding anniversary and be there for Christmas and New Year's Eve because every time I've been at a Sandals, we imagined how it would be to spend this time of the year in paradise.

So, let's see how it was ...

1) After spending more than 1 hour at immigration, arriving at Sandals MoBay did all that time worthwhile. 3 people were waiting for us with cold towels, warm greetings and welcome drinks. It seemed that they knew we were coming back to our home away from home. This reception was much better than the one when we had a butler, a few years ago (so we never booked this category any more). The room was ready and we got a super upgrade. The cleanliness of the room was always impeccable including cleaning the bathroom with towels changed twice daily.

2) We are divers and we were eager to hit the water in paradise. We are used to the treatment received at Sandals but this time, we ended up disappointed. At SMB we had to carry all the heavy equipment from the watersports into the boat, like BCD, fins and even the weights, which are 8-12 pounds each! And at the end of each dive, take it all back and wash. None of the other times we've been at a Sandals we had to do this. In addition, the SMB dive staff was not very friendly (except for Rochelle that took good care of us, everyday). As I need an extra help to equip myself in the water, no one has worked hard to meet this need, except the captain Winston. So I felt myself bothering the team and not being pampered by them. We thought things had changed for the worse. We had a pleasant surprise when we decided to dive at Sandals Royal Caribbean (SRC) and realized that they take care of all equipment, as used to be at SMB. THIS is Luxury Included! The staff recognized us as returning guests who have already dived with them in 2009. We must mention the staff names that took good care of us: Tamara and her beautiful smile and friendliness, Gilbert (Gilly), Shaq, Paul and Brian. Congratulations Devon for your excellent staff. Everyone were far beyond what they just need to do.

3) We met Daniele, the Cuccina Romana restaurant manager for a wine pairing and he was extremely friendly. He had a good knowledge of the wines and was very pleasant to talk to him. He always greeted us throughout the day and when we went to Cuccina Romana we had an extra special treatment. We felt like really distinguished guests.

4) A person we can not forget to mention is the Loyalty Manager, Mrs. Shaneca Duncan. We contacted her before arriving and she took care of everything from our arrival to departure. Whenever we needed anything, she was always ready to help. Took care of every detail and reminded us of all events. Thanks Shaneca for the fantastic upgrade, for the effort of getting the late check out, the companion and conversation during that lunch and the pleasant smile.

5) Our photo session with Omar, was fantastic. The underwater photographer and the one who took our photos on the beach (unfortunately we do not have their names) were also excellent. We had to wait too long to be attended at Photoshop. When in Sandals, on vacation, you do not want to spend 40 minutes waiting in a store (precious time). Nevertheless, the manager Cornelia assisted us pretty well and we even talked about future vacations at Sandals. Your care was also far beyond we expected.

6) The food was delicious in every restaurant we've been. The Christmas Day dinner at Le Jardinier (SRC) was amazing, with a special menu and a children's choir. The New Year's Eve supper was an excellent surprise: plentiful, delicious food, access to multiple restaurants with lobster, prawns, scalops, oysters, sashimi and sushi buffet, plus a special menu at The Oleander. Not forgetting to mention the chance of toasting with champagne by the sea at midnight.

7) Regarding drinks, besides the usual attention from the bartenders preparing excelent mixtures (thanks Romario), we need to mention that we love Behringer wines and we were very happy to enjoy Appleton Run again, instead of El Dorado. The fact that we can order our drinks by the beach was another pleasant surprise.

8) A negative point is to get dressed to go to a restaurant with evening attire dress code and see other guests in Tshirts and shorts or tennis shoes dining while you dressed accordingly.

Considering all these points, it was a great stay, awesome vacation and wedding anniversary and a perfect way to end 2013 and start 2014. We received our Sandals Silver Pendant and look forward to reach the Gold Pendant soon.

We just returned from a week long stay at Sandals Montego Bay, January 25 - February 1. This was our first time to Jamaica and first time staying at a Sandals property. We had many high expectations and so many of them were met and exceeded during this stay. A few highlights:
- Food at all restaurants was outstanding, not a bad experience for anyone anywhere ... highly pleased with the options, quality and the service!!! Everything from the beach side pizza made to order, to the Cricketer, to the reservation required restaurants ... everything is a MUST.
- Rooms were clean and nice ... although all of our group's rooms were different, each one had a benefit over the other so it was fun to see the differences. We stayed in building 19, which is a further walk but also had added privacy and quiet surroundings. I would request this building next time, or somewhere near. Pauline was FANTASTIC with our room, always knew our names, took great care of us and was such a delight to see every morning.
- Amenities ... we tried to use as many of the amenities as possible while there, within our group including the water skiing, sailing, hobie cats, beach volleyball, etc. All great!
- Extras ... we highly recommend working with Dalton with Island Tours to book an excursion. We did two excursions on our trip, 1) catamaran for snorkeling and Margaritaville and 2) "With the Natives" tour to Negril. Dalton was absolutely the highlight of this adventure. He was extremely knowledgeable, funny and easy to be around. Going on a tour with anyone else would not be the same.
- Staff ... the staff was really great ... a few people that made our trip extra special: Marc - Cricketer for his great attitude, fun spirit and excellent service. Dalton - Island Tours, he was outstanding and fun to be around. Pauline - room service, she was fantastic and such a sweet person! Kirk - various restaurants, great service and always greeted you when he saw you!

Coming into this trip, our groups main concern was the airplane sound ... in all honesty, it didn't bother me a bit. When in a small area, with many resorts near by and having an airport close ... you can't expect to NOT have airplane noise. While we were very close to take off point, the noise was loud but quick. When we ventured to Sandals Royal Caribbean, we found the airplane noise to last longer as it was a turning point. It really did not bother me at all ... it is not a busy airport every day of the week ... it is certainly manageable and did not ruin my experience in the slightest.

All in all, I would highly recommend this resort for someone looking to relax in a beautiful setting while also enjoying a fun atmosphere.

We travelled with a group of forty people. The staff made us feel like family. A special thanks to Michael and Kendrea who definitely made our week extremely special. The food was absolutely perfect. The accomodations were very nice. Overall experience? Well beyond my expectations! We will definitely be returning and make Sandals Montego Bay our home away from home year after year. Thanks Montego Bay, YOU GUYS ROCK !!!!!

Don't get me wrong, we had a great holiday. I just expected "more" from staying at a Sandals resort. This was my 3rd stay at a Sandals resort (1st being 20 years ago at Royal Caribbean, and 2nd being at Sandals Dunn's River 5 years ago (which is now owned by the Jewel)).

Food - I think this was my biggest disappointment. No, we didn't starve, and never were hungry, however the food was very "resort like" for lack of a better explanation. The Italian restaurant was a huge disappointment. We travelled in a party of 6 and 5 out of the 6 had the lasagna, which was their "Signature Dish". It tasted like canned meat or something. Hard to explain. Chef Boy Ar Dee tasted better. I had the steak and potato. It was okay, a bit salty. The Bayview Restaurant in the evening was good. No complaints other than the steak was tiny. The Oleander room was our best experience. The waitress we had was the friendliest staff member I encountered. (The other staff members were friendly, but she seemed to go over and above). They only had one evening buffet and it was very disappointing. This was beach party night. Selections were limited (not what I've experienced at Sandals before), and the shrimp was mushy. Not really what I'd expect from a 5 star resort. The seafood restaurant Stewfish was just okay too. Nothing to write home to mother about. The beach pizza place was great. No complaints there, as well as the beach grill. The food at the Cricket Pub was just so so as well. Mashed potatoes were cold and hard. Steak was thin and salty. One member of our party ordered the pork chops and one of them was almost rancid. Just had a bad flavor. The wings were the best thing in this restaurant. Unfortunately they weren't able to accommodate a party of 6 at Tokyo Joes so we had to forgo that one all together. This was a huge disappointment given we paid the upgrade to a concierge who was to help with dinner reservations, which we made the morning after we arrived. The lunch buffet was good in the Bayview. No complaints. And the breakfast buffet was usual breakfast affair. No complaints.

Drinks were really good. No complaints there. If I did have to complain, I'd say lighten up on the simple syrup in the cocktails. Many of the drinks were too sweet, although they did accommodate when I asked them to lighten up on it. The beach service was great to have.

Our room was good. Nothing overly fancy in my opinion. Clean though, and the housekeepers were good. The turn down service was a nice touch. The grounds were really nice. There were lots of beach chairs.

Overall, we had a great trip. I just think for a 5 star Sandals resort, and knowing what I've got in the past, this resort just seemed ok. I would try another resort brand (Couples maybe) next time just to compare, but would probably give Sandals another try at some point, just not this resort. There was nothing that really "wowed" me.

I just want to say I love Jamaica (my 6th time visiting the island) and I will return.

This was our 7th vacation at this resort and once again it was awesome. The staff at this resort is top notch and they treat you like family. We have become good friends with a couple of the staff members and keep in touch with them throughout the year. The food again this year was excellent and the weather was perfect. This year upon arrival we used a service called Club Mobay Fast Track, this service gets you through Immigration much faster. We were greeted by a member of Club Mobay as we departed the airplane and she took us all the way to our ground transportation, I recommend it. It cost $100.00 per couple, a little expensive but worth it. Again this year I want to thank Beach Bum Vacation for making this possible. We have worked with Lisa for the last 6 years and she does an excellent job of putting together our perfect vacation. I highly recommend Lisa for a job well done. We took a day trip to Negril, It was a lot of fun but it makes for a very long day. To sum it all up, we love Sandals Montego Bay and can't wait to go back again next year.

Room Tip: We like the Almonds Building because it's quiet.

This is the worst Sandlas! If you do not upgrade to butler service you are treated like trash. The hotel is dirty and dingy with stray cats running around. Our room had bugs in it and the manager refused to switch our room. The wifi also did not work in our room and the hotel did not fix it. When we arrived and tried to make reservations at the restaurants on property, we were told they were all full. We walked by the restaurants that night and saw many open tables. The food was awful, not the type of fresh fruit you expect from an island. It was like canned fruit. The hotel staff did not put us on the right bus to the airport and we ended up having to pay for a taxi with no apology. The hotel is also right next to the airport and you hear planed all day. This hotel is not a good representation of the Sandals experience. Do yourself a favor and book another resort. I think the worst part is that the staff is cold and unfriendly. All we wanted was good customer service and we were treated like garbage.

We just returned 3 days ago. We went with a group of family and friends for a family wedding. "Beautiful" is the first word I always use to describe it, "just beautiful" . They open the gate to pull in and its like "Fantasy Island". I love flowers so the landscaping was breathtaking. They have beautiful tile walkways going everywhere. Plenty of garbage cans and ashtrays so no one litters. Love that. They are always working on the appearance of the resort. Every morning around 6 they would sweep every flower petal and every leaf off the walkway and then mop it. There was a man, going around and fixing paint scuffs. They raked the beach everyday so it is also beautiful. Very well upkept. And all the workers, so wonderful. They truly have the best attitudes and make you feel so welcomed. I, unfortunately, was so sick when I got there. I was miserable and a staff worker noticed me walking around, looking pathetic. She stopped, asked me how I was feeling, and helped me find a medicine that made me feel better. I appreciate her so much. The only thing I can think of that would be bad is that it is RIGHT behind the airport. The planes are pretty loud when they take off. Five went by during the wedding ceremony we were at. I got used to them though. But, if you don't want to hear them, stay at Ocho Rios or Negril. This resort is more for convenience. Would it keep me from going here again??? Hell No. That is just for "quiet" peoples information. It was our five year wedding anniversary this trip, we plan on going back on our 10th. It costs a lot for a average couple with four kids but if I had more time to save then 7 months, I wouldn't have seemed so bad, for as nice as it is and as pampered as you feel. Get a couple more kids out of college first and I'll be back. We stayed in seagrapes. I liked it there.
