“A great way to experience Sandals at an affordable price!”

My girlfriend & I enjoyed are 7 nights at the Carlyle Inn. I wish it was longer, 7 days goes by way too fast. The other 2 Sandals are very nice, much bigger, but not as intimate. The staff was great, the friendliest people i've ever met. The all-inclusive resort is the way to go! We'll be back again some day!

The Carlyle Inn is a small 58 room property with one pool and two restaurants. Full spa services available.Entertainment almost everyday by the pool and every night at the lounge.
My husband and I got married at this resort. All staff went out of the way to make sure we had everything we desired at all times. It was nice to be able to use two other Sandals resorts in the area.Transportation provided between all local properties.
Decor was OK, if a little shabby. Needs updating. We had the mid price package and room. The rest of the resort property is well maintained.
Food was awesome! The head chef, Ryan, went above and beyond to accommodate our wishes several times during our stay.
Safety is of the utmost concern. Every time we left or entered the premises a security guard was available to check us in and out. Records kept of our room # and where we were headed and when we returned.
Spa services are available, if a bit expensive. I had a french mani and pedi for the wedding, $90-for both.Total services aprox 2 - 2 1/2hrs. Mani lasted only 4days before it pealed off. Still nice though. The tech I had was accommodating and her attention to detail was very professional
One drawback was the beach. Available beach at this property is public and weekends were extremely busy with local traffic. Pics on web are a bit deceiving of this property. No water sports available here but, the Mo Bay and Royal property have everything. Locals music can be very loud, but not unbearable. The management asked them to tone it down and after that there was no issue. The front desk staff offered to move us if we were unhappy.
I would stay here again in a heartbeat and would recommend it highly to anyone looking for an intimate inclusive resort experience. With the other two properties available anytime, it was like getting 3 for the price of one.

Just as the reviews stated...this place is great. The room "good" we will upgrade to 3rd floor next time. Food at the Inn is better than buffet at the resort. Shuttles run like clockwork and are really no hassle at all. No tiping is nice but slide your favorite server a couple dollars and the service just gets better. Partied hard at MoBay Sandals EVERYDAY. It was nice to come back to our quaint hotel. Why are there so many car alarms? They really do go off ALL night...it is kinda funny. Shut your doors, turn on the air and sleep hard. Some might be turned off by the view of the locals at the beach across the street but I enjoyed a view of real culture and the snorkling isn't bad there either. I am a bigtime watersports guy and was quite impressed with Sandals Mobay activities. It really is ALL included. Good waterski equipment (and I'm picky), good dives...truly (I've dove Coz & Keys) and was surprised at the quality. Few fish though. They over fish because they are so poor. Saw 5 dolphins on first snorkel trip. Played at the Mobay pool bar as our main base but enjoyed returning to the Inn each evening. Great price, great service, we felt very safe. Enjoy!

Sandals Carlyle Inn - Friday 1/29/2010 to Tuesday 2/02/2010

We decided about two months prior to travel that we wanted to have a quick midwinter getaway, and we wanted to do it as inexpensively as possible at a Sandals resort, so the Sandals Carlyle Inn was our choice. The lowest two categories were sold out, so we happily booked the Grand Luxe Oceanview room.

We were picked up by our driver at 3 AM, and taken to Logan Airport bright and early. Not knowing if there were any changes going thru security, we opted to leave a little early. Better to be waiting at the airport than at home. We were flying on American, and had to stand in a long line waiting to check in. We were not able to do curbside check-in, nor could we use the self-serve kiosks. We were at the airport by about 3:40 AM, and only one window for check-in was open until shortly after 4 AM. Once additional check-in windows opened up the line moved quickly. We then headed to security, which we went thru fairly quickly. Our flight was scheduled for 5:30, and we had plenty of time to get to the gate, grab a coffee, and get on board when called.

Our connection was thru Miami, and we landed a few minutes early. We had about a one-hour layover. We came in at gate E5, and had to go to gate D46. Arrived at the gate with plenty of time to spare.

We were offered to have our seats moved into the exit row on both flights, which we accepted knowing that there would be more leg room. What we didn’t realize was that the armrests don’t come up in these seats, and my hubby felt squished in his seat, on both flights. The armrests weren’t just the armrest; they were a solid “wall” between the seats, so there was really no extra room. A lesson learned for the future.

We ended up sitting on the runway for a bit and finally took off about 15-20 minutes late. We were scheduled to land in Montego Bay about 11:30, but instead landed about 11:50. Immigration moved very quickly, as did baggage claim and customs. From the time we got off the plane, went thru immigration, got our bag, went thru customs, headed to the Sandals lounge, used the rest rooms, and got on the shuttle, it was a total of 20 minutes. We did not have to wait on the shuttle for other guests to arrive, and we were at the Inn within 5 minutes. One of the best things of staying in Montego Bay! :-)

We were taken to the reception area, where we reviewed the usual paperwork. Paul was our official greeter, and he brought us a couple of drinks from the bar while we waited for the paperwork, keys, etc. to be ready. We were taken to our room a few minutes later, which was one of the newly renovated rooms on the third floor.

These renovated rooms use a keycard for entry, which was nice. Upon entering, the bathroom was immediately on the left, and the closet was on the right. Old style safe in the closet, placed vertically (we had the same thing at Sandals Negril – why are they not horizontal???) Plenty of room to put our suitcase and carryons in the closet. Bathroom is renovated with all new tile work, modern marble sink seated on a lovely mahogany open cabinet, and great showerhead in the newly tiled bathtub area. Regular tub – no jets. It was a little tight in the bathroom – you had to close the door to be able to get to the tub/shower, but all the tile work, floor and walls, is lovely and very tasteful. Soft beige tones.

Walking straight ahead from the entry takes you into the large bedroom area with king-size mahogany four-poster bed. Very nice butler’s cabinet with the same marble as the bathroom for the countertop. The upper cabinet had the place for bottles of liquor, but there was none in it. Refrigerator was hidden behind cabinet door under the marble countertop. Stocked with coke, sprite, and water, etc. – no beer or wine.

Bed was very comfortable. White bedspread/coverlet. Swan towel decorations on our bed every day; it wore sunglasses one day! :) Two long tables/desks – one on either side of the bed for night stands. Large armoire with the TV in it, and three long large drawers below. TV was a regular one – not a flat screen. Ceiling fan and new AC. Easy chair in the corner near the balcony.

Nice balcony overlooking the pool and Bay Window Restaurant, and looking straight out at the ocean. Good sized table and two chairs. Drying rack on the wall. Ceiling fan also.

Once we unpacked and changed out of our jeans and sneakers we headed down to the Bay Window for lunch. Within a few minutes of our being seated the girl from the Island Routes desk came along and asked if she could join us. We happily welcomed her and got to chatting about the excursions, etc. I commented to her that a dear friend of ours works at the Island Routes desk at SGOR, and she asked who it was. When I told her, she said “OMG! He is working here in MoBay now!” I hadn’t contacted him ahead of time as we were only staying for 4 nights, and just didn’t know if we would have the time to meet with him, particularly not with him in OR. She called him on her cell phone for us, and when she asked our names to tell him who we were, we said to tell him that momma and dada were asking. He immediately knew it was us, and we made plans to get together with him and his parents on Saturday night. We just knew our little getaway was off to a great start! :-)

After lunch we put on our bathing suits, grabbed our books, and found chairs by the pool. We laid around for the afternoon, and explored the grounds a little bit, found the bar, etc. Headed up to shower late afternoon and get ready for dinner. Then we headed down to the bar for a drink before dining at The Carlyle that night. Very nice meal! We passed on dessert, and just headed to bed early – way tooooo tired from traveling and being up all night the night before.

On Saturday we got chairs by the pool early, and then headed to breakfast. The sun has to come up and over the Inn before the whole pool area has sun, which isn’t until early afternoon, so to get the sun early, you need to get a chair on the street side of the pool. These tend to be the first chairs occupied. Spent the day at the pool soaking up the warmth and sun.

For dinner Saturday night we headed over to SMB on the 5:30 shuttle. Decided we would have dinner at Stewfish, which opened at 6:30. We were meeting our friend and his parents at 8:30 at SCI, so we knew we needed to eat as early as we could so we could get back in time. We were seated promptly at 6:30. Unfortunately there was a large private party of 28 people also having dinner at Stewfish. While the staff was prepared to seat this group at three round tables separate from the Stewfish tables, they were not prepared to also wait on all the other “regular” guests. Once our waiter finally realized that he had our table, as well as several others, he quickly came and took our order, drink order, brought us bread, etc. We both had the scallops kebobs appetizer; I had the shrimp kebobs for my meal, and hubby had snapper (or talapia, or ??? but it was fish). LOL The meal was very good. We again passed on dessert as we knew we were heading out with our friends. Shared a cab with another couple and headed back to the Inn.

Our friend and his parents showed up at 8:30 and we headed down the Hip Strip to the Twisted Kilt. Fun little pub-like restaurant right on the water. We all had drinks, and shared some jerk chicken flat-bread pizza, buffalo wings, etc. Lots of laughs and great discussions. So good to see him again and meet his parents. Looking forward to seeing them again next year!

Sunday was basically a repeat of Saturday – breakfast, pool, sun, reading, etc. It’s what we wanted! LOL We met some new friends who I had been talking with on Trip Advisor ahead of time, who were also staying at the Inn. We hit it off really well and spent the rest of our short stay hanging out with them! J We had reservations to go to dinner with them at Le Jardiniere at SRC for 6 pm that night. What an amazing meal we had!!! To begin with, the waiter brought an amuse bouche (a one-bite appetizer) that was the chef’s special for the night – yummy! Then escargot for starters. French onion soup. A wonderful green salad. Hubby hadn’t wanted salad, so he had another order of escargot. Then lobster tails for our meal – OMG!!! Soooo good! When I was placing my order, I had jokingly told the waiter I wanted one of every dessert. So we were very surprised – and VERY pleased! - when he came out with one of each of the four desserts for us. We all shared each dessert! Bottomless glasses of wine! A totally amazing dining experience! After dinner we wandered around SRC and headed into the pub for drinks. We then headed back outside of the pub to watch some of the evening’s entertainment. We caught the 10 pm shuttle back to the Inn.

On Monday the four of us all had breakfast together, and then with another couple took a walk downtown to the Hip Strip. Roamed in and out of the little shops, and eventually ended up at Margaritaville for drinks on the deck. Roamed in and out of a few more shops and made our way back to the Inn. Headed down to the pool again, and vegged for the rest of the afternoon. Had lunch at Nibbles, which is the little grill onsite at SCI. Very good hamburgers and jerk chicken!

For dinner the four of us headed back to SRC. SMB was having their beach party, so that’s why we headed to SRC. We dined at the outdoor buffet, which was very good. Wasn’t what we had originally planned on, but it was very good. Caught the shuttle back to the Inn after dinner, and headed to the bar for drinks on our last night. Sat around drinking and chatting with many of the other guests before we finally headed up to bed.

Tuesday was our departure day. :( We had a nice surprise when our wonderful travel agent popped in! It was great to see her again! Spent about an hour visiting with her before we had to leave for the airport. Our flights home were smooth and uneventful, and sadly we returned to reality.

The gym at the Inn is small with 3 ellipticals and 3 treadmills. A few free weights, and one sit-up/ weightlifting board. Unfortunately there are no lighter weights (3 or 5 lbs) to use. The room has ceiling fans and windows, which get a nice breeze, but unfortunately it is not air conditioned. There were plenty of towels; however, I looked for a spray bottle to wipe down the elliptical when I was done, and unfortunately there was nothing there.

The staff at the Inn are wonderful! Cheryl Brown, the GM, is warm, thoughtful, and so accommodating. She knows all her guests by name. We enjoyed chatting with her and getting to know her. Crazy Ray, the Playmaker, is so full of life! You can’t help but laugh and get involved when he is around. So much fun! All the staff were warm and friendly, and very helpful. Alexander, the Loyalty Manager, who is also at the Soon Come Back desk, was great to deal with, answering all our questions, playing with dates, etc.

We did have one issue with the lock on our door. On Saturday evening before we went out with our friend I realized that the door wouldn’t lock. I called the front desk, and Paul came up to check out the door. Sure enough, he couldn’t make it lock either. Our valuables were locked in the safe, but we were still uncomfortable about leaving our room that way. Cheryl was standing by the entrance/exit to the Inn when I came downstairs. I told her what was going on, and she made an immediate attempt to get it solved. She offered us another room immediately; however, it was our decision to wait until the next morning for a solution. (the idea of packing everything, or having someone pack our things, and moving it when we were going out for the evening within minutes wasn’t of much appeal). Paul assured us that he would have security check our room repeatedly during the evening while we were out. Everything was perfectly fine in our room when we returned. (You couldn’t tell the door wasn’t locked looking at.) Unfortunately the lock couldn’t be fixed until the next morning. It turns out that the circuit board in the electric locking mechanism had blown and the whole mechanism needed to be replaced, which was done on Sunday morning.

We loved sitting on our balcony watching the planes coming in for a landing. Whereas SMB is beside the runway, and SRC is beyond the end of the runway (you hear and see them overhead), the Inn is before the runway. You see the planes coming in over the water before they land. Minimal airplane noise in comparison to either of the other two resorts.

At times there is street noise that you hear – car horns, car alarms, the locals talking, etc. It did not keep us awake at night, nor did it bother us during the day. We did cross the street and go over to the beach one afternoon for a bit, which was nice. If the road is ever actually moved, none of the noise will be an issue any longer, which will make the Inn even nicer!

Overall we had a great w/e escape! The Inn is very different from all other Sandals or Beaches resorts. There are only about 45 rooms or so, which makes for a much more intimate atmosphere. It’s easy to get to know the other guests as you see the same guests more often. In fact, we discovered that many of the guests who were there rebooked for the same w/e next year, as did we, so we will see them again! What the Inn lacks in size, or beach, it makes up for in its staff and intimate atmosphere. We knew what to expect going in, and were very happy with our choice!

We've just returned from a great two weeks stay at Sandals Carlyle Inn (Jan 21-Feb 4) and had a wonderful time. We had stayed there last year for one week and loved it so much we booked again for this year.

The people were all fabulous as always. We were treated very well by all staff. We want to say hello to Cheryl, Lisa, both Paul's, Richards, Wolfe, Crazy Ray, Elvis, Omar, Shorty, and especially Andrew. The food and service at both restaurants (Carlyle & Bay Window) was great.

If you're looking for a resort right on the beach then this would probably not be your first choice as this resort only has a small public beach across the street. By the way at night the street can get fairly noisy. This year I happen to have a pair of ear plugs which helped reduce the noise.

There are free shuttles which run hourly to take you to the other two Sandals properties in Montego Bay which are both beach front properties. You can use all of the restaurants within the three Sandals resorts in Montego Bay. Based on our opinion the top five restaurants were the Carlyle & Bay Window located at Sandals Carlyle Inn, Le Jardinier located at Sandals Royal Caribbean, Orleander and Cucimana at Sandals Montego Bay.

Before we end our review we just wanted to say we had a great time with all the returning guests and hopefully we'll get to see you guys next year.

In summary if you want a small resort with great service, great food and are prepared to take a shuttle to get to the beach then this resort would be for you.

Would we go back again - absolutely. We're going for another 3 days at the end of March 2010.

Sandals Carlyle Inn was a wonderful vacation that offered personal villa -like service after a busy day visiting nearby sister resorts and her beaches. The Carlyle's luxury backyard like pool and patio made for a relaxing sun soaked afternoon. If action packed busy beaches were craved, a short shuttle over to Montego Bay and the Royal were easily accessed. Where reservations and line ups for dinning have been the norm for other Sandals locations, the Carlyle's Bay Window fare was graciously always ready to satisfy. Quickly seated and given the choice of four entrees was never a disappointment.
The newly renovated bed and bath for our ocean view room was emaculate! Although the high bed was a nightly challange to mount, sweet dreams always followed once nestled in. Thanks to all the staff that made this trip a personal yet private experience.
