Talk about paradise! My wife and I chose Secrets for our honeymoon based on value, recommendations and the 'no kids' policy. We feel like we chose well.

The first thing we noticed was the BEAUTIFUL landscaping. Everywhere you look is blooming local foliage and an island's worth of palm trees.

Then we went to check in and got our first taste of the friendly service. The front desk was busy, so we were escorted to the lounge for drinks until we could be helped. And the staff only got better from there. Everyone had a smile and a kind word at the least (and there's a small army of staff here). In particular, Owayne at the pool bar making us drinks and Alex keeping the entertainment flowing made our visit better than we could've imagined and made us feel like the whole resort was catering just to us. We would return just to see them again (and get our fill of Owayne Specials)! The room service and housekeeping are also spot on, leaving you alone when you wish and keeping the room supplied and spotless.

The food was very good, probably as good as can be expected at an all-inclusive. There are more dinner options than you can try in a week, and the Bordeaux in particular has world class meals. We did lament the lack of breakfast and lunch options a bit, and we'd recommend avoiding the burgers. That said be ABSOLUTELY SURE to get the jerk chicken from the roll-out grills at noon (just wow)! As far as drinks go, they've got rum, and the bartenders know how to use it! Most bars have just the rail liquor (which does include the local Appleton Estate rum), but you can find top shelf drinks once you know where to look. I would've appreciated a larger beer selection, but the local Red Strip and Lite version are very good.

The only reason I wouldn't recommend this place to someone is if they are looking for a stunning beach. It's very narrow, a bit rocky, and there are beds of seaweed close to shore. The clear water and coral reef right off shore make up for this in my opinion, but my wife was unimpressed.

I highly recommend Secrets St James. For the price you pay, I'm not sure you could get more. The atmosphere, staff and facilities couldn't be better. There's something for everyone and always something to do. It's a beautiful resort and deserves this rating. Just go already!

Room Tip: St James and Wild Orchid are just different buildings in the same resort with the same rooms. St Jam...

This was our first Caribbean and all inclusive vacation. Absolutely Amazing!!! The resort was phenomenal, the staff friendly, and the food amazing. I can’t wait to plan our next vacation.

Things to not miss:
The French Toast Brioch at Breakfast
Snorkeling (free guided tours)
Swim Up Bar (Owayne was a great bartender!)
The Jerk Chicken Cart
The Blue Mountain Restaurant

The free wi-fi was a bit spotty. Best reception was from the beach.

Special thank you to Travis and Kevin from the front desk. They went out of their way to find a coconut for my husband on our last day. Thank you!! Much Love!!

The hotel is extraordinary. We stayed in the St. James side (not preferred). Honestly, preferred is not really needed during a down season. This is because the resort is pretty quiet. We stayed there for five days. The Orchid Section of the resort was busier. St. James was quiet and relaxing. We did not upgrade to preferred. Preferred offered some perks however, the only thing that seemed to be worth it was the rooms (jacuzzi outside of their balconies etc). They have a private beach but it was all the same to me.

The food was OK. Jerk chicken from the truck was the best. So were the coconut drinks! Shouts to Carlton who provided great service and great hospitality. He was always busy and his cart always had a line however, he chatted with us even in the scorching heat. It is true- it is the people who make this hotel a beauty. Garfied from the Coco cafe was welcoming and sweet. That coffee is amazing, purchased some in the airport. The staff was extremely friendly. The Piano Bar lacked service compared to all their other bars but I guess it was a very busy night --circus night was going on.

Our favorite restaurant was Blue Mountain - authentic Jamaican food. El Patio for dinner was good. Breakfast was the same each morning (they only had one restaurant for breakfast).

We had an amazing time at the talent show. The band that played that night was incredible. Movie night was sweet. Learned a great deal about the Jamaican culture. Will definitely return!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: Preferred is not needed during down time. We had a partial ocean view--still beautiful.

My wife and I had our first wedding anniversary at Secrets St. James, Preferred. The beauty of Montego Bay is amazing, but it is the Jamaican people who truly enhance the experience! Garfield, a Bellman, Kaye from Housekeeping, Elaine on the beach, and Shanique our concierge were extremely nice and helpful, and helped make our experience unforgettable!

I have never been to the Caribbean. For my wife's 40th, we decided to go and had some friends come with us. They said all-inclusive was the best thing and I read a lot of reviews here and decided on Secrets St. James because of the great reviews.

Jamaica was awesome, great tours but sitting under those cool palapas on the beach, with the great breeze and having frozen drinks brought to you is fantastic! The beach isn't as white as Negril (we visited there later in the week) and neither are as white as Destin, but it was still nice.

There isn't a lot of ocean swimming area in front of the St. James, but it was plenty, the beach was big, just that the water area was roped off for the snorkeling, scuba and water sports boats.

The pool has a swim up bar and great servers. We LOVED Carrie Ann. She was so helpful and remembered what we liked to drink. There is a jerk chicken cart that is between the pool and beach everyday (all-included of course), fresh fruit stand, burger/hot dog bar, etc. You will not want for food here.

The restaurants, for the most part, are on the Wild Orchid side. We tried all but the Mexican one (we get plenty of great Mexican in Texas). My favorite was the hibachi restaurant, so good and loved the sauces. Breakfast buffet each morning will pack on the pounds if you aren't careful. The banana smoothies and cooked to order omelets were fantastic. Many kinds of breads, French toast, pancakes, brulee French toast, and much more. Did I mention unlimited Bloody Marys and Mimosas?

They had some planned activities, but we were doing some tours and only participated in the beach bash (dancing on the beach to DJ music) and my wife did the snorkeling (only about 30 minutes of actual snorkeling).

They do try to pitch you on joining their club, but we didn't sign up for the pitch and they didn't push. They had a birthday banner and bottle of rum for us for my wife's birthday celebration, very nice.

The room service was the one drawback. The hamburger was not good, it was a soy tasting burger (though it said it was grass fed beef). Another day I ordered a continental breakfast (it had taken 25 minutes the first time I ordered) and it never came after and hour and we had to leave for our tour.

The steak was just ok, so out of four room service orders, one never came, one was bad, the other ok and the continental breakfast that did come was decent. This is what cost them 5 stars (I actually considered dropping it to 3 due to the room service).

Check in and check out was pretty painless. I don't think they should charge for wireless in the room, it is free on the grounds, doesn't make sense at an all-inclusive, but this was our first.

All in all, pretty darn great place. Oh, and the giant hot tub on the beach was cool as well.

Room Tip: As for higher floors to see the ocean.
