“Great Service”
Reviewed 24 September 2012

This hotel is great for couples that are looking for a nice and relaxing resort. Don't expect crazy nightlife or shows cause they don't exist at this place. The service is great. I personally really liked being able to order my drinks while lying down on the beach or by the pool without having to actually walk to the bar... That was great!
The rooms are fantastic... Some awesome channels on TV if you know what I mean ;)
The food is great, definitely much better than other resorts I've been to but don't expect crazy, super fancy meals. They look fancy but taste-wise they are only good.
The Jamaican restaurant is one of the best and is a must go. The others are good too so you're winning no matter what choice you make.
Overall I really liked this place. I don't think I would go back though because I need more action at night. So ya...

We stayed 14 days in Wild Orchid, preferred club. We had a fantastic vacation.
The thing you have with the people, working there, is that you have 2 different types of people. You have the "fake" people and you have the "real" people. The fake people are people which stay friendly as long as you give them tips, the real people are the people which "really" are friendly and mean it. Examples of the real people: Jeffrey and Joseph (the luggage guys), siging all day, friendly every moment. Donna and Joy (waitresses), always smilling and ready for a well meaned talk. These are examples from people who gives good reputation to Jamaica and the hotel.
But to be honest, the "fake" people are stimulated to be fake day after day to the fact there are certain guests which are giving tips with EVERY order they do. Mostly people which are staying for a short time and throwing with dollars. I think this kind of people could be cheaper of in a not all inclusive hotel. But OK that's their business and their money, but nevertheless it only encourages and motivates the "fake" behaviour.
But enough.... I certainly recommend this hotel to everybody who wants to visit Jamaica. Well organised, clean, good food, good service. One comment is that it is regrettable the 2 "pool" restaurants (Sea food grill and Oceana) are not opened for diner during "low season".
We will certainly come back!!!

Room Tip: I shouldn't recommend to take swim up room. You have less privacy. But certainly book for the pr...

Was here on a combo meeting/pleasure. Would have loved to stay longer and wish my spouse was with me (I was here with colleagues). Property is beautiful, plenty of room to spread out and do your thing. Always open lounge chairs available. Pool beverage service was great. Food was so-so. Nothing terrible, but not spectacular. I was only here for three nights - ate at Portofino's two nights (the pork was delicious), and Bordeaux one night. Would love to stay here again. Rooms are very nice, showers, etc. Lovely view and big private balcony. I've been to Jamaica several times and stayed at several Sandals properties and this was far nicer.

We stayed here on our honeymoon in September 2011. It was there grand opening. The rooms were beautiful and the staff were so helpful and sooooo much fun! We played dominoes with 2 of the staff members and they were just so fun. In the morning we had mimosas at the concierge desk in the lobby, then had an amazing breakfast. There was so much to do. The night life was great and we listened to live music and dancing. Would love to go back to this resort! The food was excellent!!

Took a break from work and went to secrets for a spa weekend all by myself! The experience was liberating and the property is simply amazing. if you want a break from the crazy life the spa is the perfect place to chill out and the beach is perfect. I really loved the friendly service. Garfield the bellman really made me feel welcome. He's awesome and he set the tone for a perfect weekend getaway. The best thing about secrets wild orchid is the privacy and relaxing vibe. Completely loved it :0

Room Tip: rooms by the pool are a little noisy during the day

This plaxe was one of the best I have stayed to date! Working in the service industry, it was refreshing to have such excellent service throughout our stay. Great service is sometimes hard to find but this place was filled with it :) A few stood out above the rest & I wanted to mention them by name... LEONARD!!! Hilarious, we will never forget you, you certainly put on a show. If anyone gets a chance to meet him, ask if he still has the "towel" a crew from Philly gave him lol! Cassie was so much fun, she really got us up and joining the daily activities around the resort (thanks for teaching us how to "booty pop" :)
The resort was stunning! The rooms were perfect, everything anyone would need inparadise. The food was average to pretty good, with the exception of the Japanese Hibachi restaurant, that was AWESOME! Make sure you make a reservation & do not miss out on the guys there. When we told them we were from Philly they broke out into the Fresh Prince theme song haha!
The one & only thing I was not that impressed with was the nightly entertainment. We did not want to leave the resort so I just wished they would have offered something other than Desires :( Had there been some fun, memorable nightly entertainment this place would have absolutely received a 5 from me.
All in all it was an amazing time that I will never forget!! ~Vacation Club Jamaica, January 2012

Hi. Traveled with my wife and another couple from 09-08 through 09-15. First quick tip. Book private transfers from MBJ / hotel and back. My wife and I booked a private car through Amstar and we got to the hotel about 45 minutes ahead of the other couple who used the company that was on Expedia. On the trip back to MBJ, they had to leave at 1030 am, we left at 1130 am and still beat them to the airport by a good 20 minutes. The extra couple of bucks for the private transfer is well worth it. Anyhow, from the moment we went through the Wild Orchid gates and to preferred club check in (yes got a cold towel and glass of champagne) our entire trip was a wonderful experience. We did not receive a single request about attending any time share seminar, etc. We were at the PC check in at 130 PM and our room was ready (check in is not until 3PM). The property was immaculate and someone was always cleaning something. Every single staff member that we interacted with (which ended up being a lot of people) had a smile on their face and a willingness to go above and beyond.

ROOM: We were lucky enough to have a master suite on the top floor... amazing room and even more amazing view. We had no issues with the room at all as far as functionality. Bed was extremely comfortable, everything, including the A/C worked perfectly. Bathroom had an outer sliding wood door that slid the whole way closed. There was a curtain instead of a wall where the Jacuzzi in the bathroom area was but it had a see-through pull curtain AND a separate black out curtain, so if you wanted complete privacy in the bathroom it is available. Also, the shower and toilet areas have frosted glass doors. The shower is a double rain shower and also has double hand held or mount jet wands. Outside deck was accessible via 2 sliding glass doors (living room and bedroom) and the Jacuzzi on the deck worked perfectly. Word of caution, the junior suites have SOAKING tubs outside (no water jets in them), the only Jacuzzi is inside the room in the junior suites. Regarding the mini bar, full bottles of Appleton, a local brandy and local vodka. Fridge had coke, diet coke, sprite, Fanta orange, bottled water and of course Red Stripe. You also get salted banana chips and M&M’s. The tap water is fine to brush your teeth with, etc. Last thing, free Wi-Fi in PC rooms.

BEACH / POOL: There was zero need to reserve chairs at either the beach or pool (at least in the PC area) as we would go down at 1000-1030 after breakfast and had no worries finding a secluded set of loungers together. The beach / pool bar service was top notch, with someone coming by literally every 5-10 minutes to see if you needed anything, including food from the Jerk Cart (yes it is indeed awesome jerk chicken) or food from the Barefoot Grill {Jamaican patties, chicken or beef}, veggie fritters, hot dogs, nachos, etc. There are a lot of pools and the PC pools are QUIET. If you want a pool with more action, hit the main pools in the middle of the property. Always something going on there. Right now it is jelly fish season so be aware of what's around you when you go in the ocean. The resort has people out in the water constantly scooping them out but fact is they cannot get them all. Don't let it keep you out of the ocean though. We did not see or hear of anyone getting stung the entire week.

FOOD: Ahh, the food. Touchy subject for many as it is so personal and subjective. Let me just say that if you recognize you are not at Morton’s, etc. and set expectations accordingly you will be very pleased. For us, having that expectation in mind, the food was absolutely wonderful. We did not have a single bad or mediocre meal the entire time. Most places have both indoor / outdoor seating. We ate everywhere at least once and went back to the French place a second time. Wearing slacks is no big deal (outside or in) at dinner so guys, don't worry about it. I didn't find it too hot at all but we usually sat down for dinner between 730-830pm. Service in each restaurant was top notch and servers were attentive without being overbearing. Could go on about the food but like I said, it is a personal thing so I'll stop with "don't be afraid to try new things". If you don't like it, you can always order something else. The preferred club always some extra and different food going on as well, along with make your own drinks with premium liquor (although there is an attendant that will want to make it for you) but it’s cool if you just say you want to do it yourself.

BARS: Top shelf liquor at almost every bar, except the beachfront ones. (Grey Goose, Crown, Grand Mariner, etc). For a local tropical drink, ask for a Purple Rain. It's not on any of the drink menus, but all the bartenders can and happily will make it for you.

ACTIVITIES: They have a daily Sun Dial newsletter that lists the activities, etc. It is not 100% accurate and some things listed don’t happen and some things do happen that are not listed. Just go with it, will it really ruin your vacation if you end up not tie-dying a t-shirt?  One very slight disappointment was that there was supposed to be a beach party one night and that never went off. Another tip… they don’t list the fact that on Wednesday nights, local craft vendors come in and set up a market to sell stuff. Otherwise, there was not a single person on the beach trying to sell stuff.

ENTERTAINMENT: It’s not Broadway… it’s not Las Vegas. That said, the reggae band, the house band, the circus show were all entertaining. At night, there is a sing a long piano bar where Andre will play anything in his book (and then some). It was a lot of fun and he is very good. (Hint… if you go there and have fun… tip the guy).

MISC: Tip, tip, tip for great service. I know that tips are theoretically included in the price you pay but really… it’s greatly appreciated. We tipped bartenders 1-2 dollars a round, the beach / pool wait service 1-2 dollars a round, our housekeeper (who kept our room immaculate) 5 dollars a day, turndown service 2 dollars a night and the mini-bar person 2 dollars a day. (We didn’t want diet coke, but only extra coke and Red Stripe as a swap). At night we gave our waitress 5 dollars at dinner. I’m not trying to tell you that you need to tip or to use this as a guide or anything if you do, it’s just what we felt was right, as everyone was working so very hard and treated us so nicely. I do not think that tipping will necessarily improve most of the service you get, but they might have your drinks ready for you when they see you walking to the bar. Plus I want to be very clear... there was NOT one single employee of this resort who in any way solicited or even seemed to expect a tip at any time. Also the yacht club is about a 5 minute walk and you can get in no worries and there are some nice pictures you can take.

SHOPPING: The Wednesday night craft market on property aside, things are expensive in the gift shop. If you enjoy Blue Mountain coffee and want to take some home, I highly suggest taking the 5 minute taxi ride to the Fairview Shopping Center down the road. There is a Hi-Lo grocery store there and you will pay a lot less for the same coffee and also have the opportunity to get a wide variety of the Jamaican sauces, rubs, etc. at much lower prices than at the resort. There is also Fontana’s Drug store in the shopping center and they do have some souvenirs there you will not find at the hotel, again at lower prices in general. Just be sure to check the exchange rate (was 75/1 for a USD while we were there) as while they will accept USD (or about any other $ for payment) you will get your change in Jamaican money.

CLUB MOBAY DEPARTURE LOUNGE AT MBJ: Worth the 25$. Food, drinks, TV, not too crowded, very comfortable seating, in / out during your time is OK (for duty free shopping etc). They do NOT announce flights or gate changes though so give yourself a few extra minutes to check the boards once you leave to head for your gate.

Sorry this ended up being so long. If you have any specific questions about the property, etc. feel free to PM / Email me here. Without a doubt, we highly recommend this resort.

Room Tip: It IS worth spending extrea for the preferrred club, honest.
