Our trip to Jamaica was among an absolute blessing. We were so lucky to find Misty Valley and the amazingly generous, kind, and inspiring, hosts that are Siobhan, Ugo and their family. I was traveling with my sister and we felt safe and welcomed all along, everywhere we went. We had our own room with a private bathroom, in a beautiful and intimate retreat in the mountains with an inground pool, a terrace perfect for yoga, a balcony to have breakfast on and a most extraordinary and peaceful view.
Siobhan and Ugo organize private excursions thanks to friends and contacts they confide in. I strongly recommend the Roaring River excursion where their friend Robert guides you through several chambers in a cave, where inside pools of water offer the experience of a natural jacuzzi, a pool to dive in, and you can even enjoy a sulfur mud wrap. The cave is absolutely majestic, and to date, very quiet with few tourists (this may change as Jamaica Tourism Board wants to increase its popularity). Robert then guides us through his village, introducing fruits and herbs, to then treat us to a traditional IPAL meal. We also enjoyed a trip to the Ocho Rios Dunn's Falls, which is absolutely worth the experience of climbing up 95 feel of waterfalls. Another excursion we enjoyed was to Negril, where we had the opportunity to walk along the Negril Beach (where many resorts reside), to Cliff dive and explore a narrow cave at Rick's Café, to then enjoy a delicious organic supper at Ras Rody's Organic Foods shack, as well as a late-night fantastic drum show. I also strongly recommend chilling out and snorkling at the Doctor's Cave beach in Montego Bay, a beautiful and safe beach, free of vendors, right on the Hip Strip. Right beside is another beach, Cornwell Beach, which has a different set of inflated water games and DJ animation.
Truly, what made our trip so perfect was Ugo and Siobhan. Ugo is a Jamaican with a recording studio who has traveled extensively and has many more recording and travel projects. He introduced us to raw foods recipes, which are absolutely delicious and makes you feel so healthy and fresh. Siobhan is a radiant, grounded yoga instructor who originates from England, and as well has traveled the world and has so many great stories to share. She has offered us opportunities we never would have had if we had stayed in a resort, or anywhere else for that matter! And the meals they offer are scrumptious. Do order their home-made vegan meals at least once!
They have been so helping, receptive, open, and generous. They have inspired us in so many ways and I truly believe they have made us grow in ways that will keep on flourishing upon our return. We look forward to returning to Misty Valley and the beautiful country that is Jamaica.
