“Great staff ! ”
Reviewed 22 May 2014 via mobile

Head chef Francisco is amazing and so is Marvin. If you have a special dietary restriction, they will help you Best they can. Just let them know in advance. You will feel right at home the minute you arrive at rws. Kerry Ann Q. Is fantastic at her job and so is wedding coordinator Chandlyn. If you're looking for a good bartender, look no further than Nicolas at the bar near the lobby or Ramon at martini mix in the evenings. Houskeeping is great - loved Kishan. The minute I looked irritated (had a itchy mosquito), donna Lee came over and dabbed rum on it. That's how amazing the staff here is. One day at the dinner buffet, I saw an employee carry a sleeping child to their room for the mom and grandma beside him. That's service! Coming back in a few months. Can't wait !!

Pool area was good, 3 large separate pools. Couldn’t help think the pool bar should really be adults only as some barmen allowed kids and others didn’t so it wasn’t really clear. The water park was great and never busy so no queuing. Entertainment was fun but not too in your face if you didn’t want to join in. A few large parties of North Americans who just drank all day long and got louder and louder were a little annoying but fortunately we in the minority! Waitresses run a great cocktails/drinks service with a great choice of drinks. Nice wine and beer also.

Food was great, buffet always had healthy things – could perhaps have done with some more veggie options but I appreciate . Loved the pizza in the Italian restaurant but the pasta wasn’t great. It was homemade but very thick and chunky. Zen Tepanyaki was great fun, no trouble booking a table. The first time we went we were seated with 3 other couples, but the next time we went we were initially seated with 6 children under the age of 10 while their parents were seated on the next table all together!! However, the parents quickly realised (they had assumed when booking that the kids would have the whole table) and 2 of them changed places with us. Seemed ridiculous that the booking system allowed it to happen though! Steak House was odd, waited ages for drinks, bread roll etc. No choice of starter, only went once as it seemed too much hassle. Husband loved the jerk chicken stand on the beach. The sports bar wasn’t great for food. Fatty fast food aimed at the Americans I think!

Entertainment was quite good but didn’t seem to stick to the schedule at all. Beach party was great fun. They seemed to show mega violent films at 7pm so maybe watch out if you have young children!! Steel drum night was great too, as was the chocolate buffet/jazz. They don’t give out the entertainment schedule at check in for some reason so we missed a few days and finally got one from reception. Cooking classes were advertised but there wasn’t one held at all in the 2 weeks we stayed despite asking at reception and asking the entertainment team. A shame as this is advertised on the Thomson website so we were looking forward to learning how to make jerk chicken.

Rooms were lovely, lots of people moaning that they were small. Can only assume this is because North Americans are used to 2 double beds as standard and the rooms only had 1. Had a safe, fridge and a balcony, nice bathroom etc. Turn down service at night was annoying as maids leave the door open and the lights on while they work and we got mozzies in the room and then got bitten. After that we just put out the ‘do not disturb sign as didn’t really need the beds to be folded down.

We took out the pedalos and the kayaks a few times. Unfortunately you had to pay extra for snorkelling which seemed a shame. Beach was lovely though and you could walk up and down without too much hassle.

Only complaint was a few loud groups. There was a massive radio station roadshow and also a TV series being filmed while we were there. Rent a Crowd seemed to be a part of this. Very noisy and rude, took over the hot-tub area so nobody else got a look in. I think this hotel needs to decide if it’s a party hotel for wedding and hen/stag parties or a classy hotel for couples and families as its identity seemed a bit unclear.

Overall we had a great stay though and it was good value for money. I think some people like to moan. Strange that all the bad reviews are written by Americans!

Room Tip: All rooms have either a garden view or a pool view so no bad options. We were in a standard room and...

We have just returned from RWS and it is a great hotel , it didn't take long for us to check in and rooms are lovely spotlessly clean .
We went to buffet retraurant and the food was excellent the staff looked after us especially Jaice &Natoya they couldn't do enough for us , Steakhouse & Italian were also very good the staff were welcoming and friendly ,
We went to the martini bar most nights and loved it , Amoy served us most nights she is lovely always had a smile , it was great atmosphere x
On the beach we found the beds with shade had gone before 8am but no one was there , we asked if the beds we're taken and told they were reserved , I complained and they soon took towels off beds I think there is a scam going on we saw money changing hands when people came down later this needs looking into x but the waitress on beach are very good bringing drinks & looking after you .

My boyfriend and I along with another couple have just visited the royalton at the end of April. We were a little apprehensive from previous reviews but it far exceeded all expectations. We did not have a single complaint. The food was absolutely amazing, the staff treated us like royalty, and the entire resort was spotless. I loved our room and the staff ensured our fridge was well stocked and the room was clean. There were always chairs to lounge on by the pools or the beach. After visiting the royalton my standards are set very high. Absolutely amazing resort. Great vacation!!! Would love to return!

Me and my partner stayed at the Royalton White Sands from 5th May 2014-15May 2014. On arrival we were greeted with a cold flannel and a glass of champagne. Dahlia the 'quality manager' sat me and a few other guests down and explained things to us including that if we had any problem with our room we should let her know and she would change it the next day.- we didn't change our room as we were happy with it.

Rooms:
We stayed in room 632! Rooms were very clean, and maintained clean throughout our stay. Our fridge was restocked with drinks every day that we were there. Towels were also changed daily. And bed tidying was done twice daily. Shower was very big and nice and sink was very trendy. We did have trouble with our shower once where the water wouldn't run, however this only lasted for 20mins. Which didn't cause any problems or delays. Air conditioning worked lovely. I loved sitting out in the balcony it had a lovely view of the hotel and the beach!

Food and restaurants:
Zen: I thought was amazing, Romeo our chef was very entertaining, very interactive and cooked up some lovely food.
Italian: the Italian was open for lunch and dinner and served some lovely food.
Steak House: Open for dinner again lovely food.
Buffet: wide selection of food for breakfast lunch and dinner
All waiters/waitresses were very friendly and kept our water glasses topped up, Nothing was too much to ask for with any of the waiters/waitresses.
Jerk Hut on beach: lovely jerk chicken chicken/pork with rice and other bits and bobs such as wedges and corn/ I thought this was lovely, open daily for lunch.

Romantic beach meal: We did have to pay for this however it is definitely worth doing. Me and my partner had a meal on the beach just the two of us surrounded in candle lights. David Lynch was our waiter- who was brilliant, he kept both our water glasses and wine glasses topped up throughout, and served us our five course meal which were all perfect! David was very friendly and attentive. Our chef did come out to greet us- which I thought was lovely- although I don't remember his name.

Pools: All pools were clean and nice sized/ including Jacuzzi, adult pool, kids pool, family pool, mini water park (4 slides)
Beach also very nice lots of sun loungers and umbrellas, sand appeared clean and sea water was a gorgeous blue colour.
During a stay not once did we have trouble getting sunloungers, no matter what time we went down to the pool!

Bars: All bars were lovely, quick service and lovely strong made drinks! Coffee/cake shop also very nice. If you like sports there is a sports bar, playing lots of different sports on lots of different televisions sports bar also does food!

Shops: a fair few shops on the resort including cigar, jewellery, gift/essential shop. All very nice, including the staff that worked there. One lady in the gift (main) on the ground floor although very friendly, was a bit 'following' around the shop, she didn't give us much privacy!

Entertainment: The entertainment crew in the day were very good, there always seemed to be different stuff going on. Entertainment on the night was also very good, especially the guys and one girl from the circus thing! However there was only a couple of hours of entertainment a night and only in one place, maybe the resort could benefit more in having a extra place for night time entertainment?

Spa: The spa is average priced. I had a massage which was very good and very relaxing!! I think the lady who did my massage was called Georgina??

If you are going away for a relaxing holiday (which I was) the last thing you want is people from travel smart trying to invite you for 'free VIP breakfasts' lasting 90mins! for them to try and save you money... they didn't like to take no as an answer!

Overall me and my partner had an amazing time. And we have no complaints except the travel smart people! We would most definitely consider returning in the future. For all those travelling from UK, don't listen to your travel agent if they tell you to take Jamaican dollars!! take American dollars!! Everything is priced in American dollars! Although you CAN buy things using Jamaican dollars it saves you doing maths to bring American!! All staff at Royalton were very nice, very attentive and extremely friendly, Nothing was too much for them to do for you.

Thank you to everyone at Royalton who made mine and my partners holiday a special one :)

Sharmain Walkise was the best server we had the whole time we were there. Very attentive and fast and eager to please, we really liked her! The jerk station located on the beach was the best jerk there! Awesome food!! Other than that, the resort was average and some staff seemed unhappy working there. The rooms are quite small for the price we paid and the water would go from hot to cold very quickly and often. You also had to wait forever for room service and often had to wait a while to get a drink, even if you tip well. Again, the beach was full of seaweed and you would expect that for the price you pay for this resort that the water quality would be managed better

I loved the Royalton White Sands. Its a perfect size as I have stayed at very large resorts and I hate walking 15 minutes to grab a bite to eat.

Beach/ Pool
The beach is very clean. There are a few dogs that roam around the beach but they dont bother anyone. The adult pool is great. Its so nice to relax and look at the ocean while grabbing your cocktail for the fun bartenders.

Room:
The room is small but we were never in our room so that didnt matter to me. We were given the incorrect room the first night but it was changed the second day.

Restaurants:
The Steak house has great food but service is a bit slow.
The japanese steak house had great food and really fun chefs.
The Italian restaurant had good food but service is a bit slow.
Buffet was ok , nothing to brag about.

Favorite things:
My absolute favorite thing is the coffee and ice cream shop. Was there 4-5 times a day.
The sports bar. All sports games are broadcasted and it was always were everyone ended up at the end of the night.
I just love Jamaican people. They are blunt but so nice and will get you anything you need. It may take awhile to get it but hey.. Jamaica no Problem.

We used a tour gide that was not affiliated with the resort. He litteraly made our trip.
Lindsey was like a history book. We learned so much about the island and its people. He always made sure we got the best guides where ever we went. Took us to get real Jamaican food!!. Beef patty, festival, jerk chicken and port.. I could go on. If you want to see the real Jamaica contact him !!! When I go back to Jamaica hes the first call I will make.
