Overall a very nice resort.
Cleanliness: Very clean. I was really impressed with maintenance staff. The rooms, eating areas, hallways and the bathrooms by the bars were all super clean.
Food: The food was very good for an all inclusive. We ate at one specialty restaurant and had the rest of our meals at the buffet. We spoke to several other guests, and most seemed to agree that the buffet offered a variety and quality that made the specialty restaurants not worth the time and reservation process. The snacks at the aqua bar were perfect after a long day of drinking. The chicken shack on the Riu property is definitely worth the short walk.
Service: Excellent. Not sure how full the resort was, but the staff to guest ratio is great. Never waited for a drink at the bar or restaurant. The bar tenders would make anything you wanted from tropical frozen concoctions to simple shots. The wait staff was very attentive and all had great personalities and made you feel very welcome (Nadine was great). Spent way too many hours at all the bars. The bar tenders were great. Kemar, Richard, Shevroy, Christopher, Andrie all excellent. Natasha at the pool bar was fantastic. Our safe had a problem and even general management was super attentive- Lara was all over it and resolved the issue within 30 minutes.
Pools/Beach: The pools were very nice. Never crowded. The pool bar was great. The beach was nice. It is man made, but they did a nice job. Secluded, and surrounded by a couple of jetties that give it a calm cove like feel. The water was just warm enough in the ocean and pool. Plenty of lounge chairs, in either the sun or shade. No need to get up early and reserve a chair. Even the outdoor beds were available at most times. The beach does not compare to Negril, but we knew that going in, and it was better than I had expected.
Exercise room: small and limited- but that is to be expected. The Riu next door had a larger weight room, but no dumbbells.
Rooms: This is my only disappointment. The beds were not very comfortable. A bit firm and small. The hallways were a bit loud and you could not help but hear the people above the room. All in all they were nice, but not to the level of the Iberostar Grande or the Royal Cancun/Playa Del Carmen.
For the price this is hard to beat. I would be happy to return to the Riu
