What a beautiful, exclusive hotel! Always felt like we were personal guests by the wonderful staff, who quickly become your friends. The resort is beautiful and quiet , but close to the action Montego Bay has to offer!
So many people to thank for such a wonderful, relaxing vacation, but a special thank you to Fabian Knight... The best mixologist who will treat you like royalty.
This is a five-star experience and highly recommend it!!

We just returned from our stay at the Riu palace yesterday. We thought that there were some great things about it and some not so great.
The great things were:
1: it's brand new, so everything is in pristine condition
2: the service is outstanding, everyone we met asked if we were enjoying ourselves or if we needed anything.
3. It's close to the airport, so we got a taxi for $20 and were sitting by the pool with a cold drink within 45 minutes of landing in Montego Bay.
4. It's quiet and there are plenty of chairs and spots on the beach or by the pool.
5. The restaurants are pretty good, you do need to get up before 8 and make reservations. We had no trouble getting to eat at the places we wanted to try. The Seaside restaurant had lobster and beef tenderloin and it was excellent, the wait staff was also wonderful. The buffet was quite good and had a good variety.
6. The bar uses high end liquor and the bartenders are attentive.
The not so great:
1. It's quiet, almost too quiet, while I was happy with the quieter beach with no one pressuring me to join activities, my boyfriend was complaining that there was not much to do. They can't win! We went next door to the Riu Montego Bay for the shows. Most were not impressive, but the Reggae show was very good. It was Bob Marley's birthday while we were there, so there was a lot of celebrating. To go over to the other resort you can cross a small bridge on the beach or go out the front and enter through the front of the other resort. ( you wear a wristband). When we crossed over the bridge on the beach, there was a guy hanging out underneath of it trying to sell us pot, he was fairly persistent, so we started going to the other resort around the front.
2. The rooms are nice, but we have stayed in nicer ones that cost less. There is no privacy. The toilet has a door, but the rest of the room is WIDE open. Several of our fellow travelers noted that there are no exhaust fans in the bathroom either, so if there is any unpleasant odors, they go through the whole room. We were supposed to have a garden view room, but our initial room faced the Riu Montego Bay and an alley. We weren't going to say anything, but at supper the assistant manager inquired about our stay. We talked to her about the room, and in a couple hours, we were moved to a new room that faced the pools and had a partial ocean view. We appreciated the effort. The management staff is working very hard on getting the hotel up to speed.
3. The beach is really small, we like to walk along the beaches when we at a resort. It's a pretty short walk. We went over to the other resort and walked on their beach.
4. The planes going over. Honestly we got used to it. Some days were noisier than others. Not a huge deal.
5. Towel cards. They just started the cards when we were there. Only one beach towel per person, and if you don't have the towel card when you check out,
We noticed a lot of people don't tip. This bothers us because these people work very hard and don't make a lot of money. We have been to many all inclusive resorts and we always tip for good service. It is greatly appreciated by the staff.
Overall, it is a nice resort with great service, would we return? Not really sure when there are so many others out there to try.

We stayed at the Riu Palace January 24 - 31 and had a great time.

The resort is only a short shuttle-drive away from the airport which is great. Yes, you can hear planes taking off, but it really wasn't that annoying.

The resort is spotless. The pools and the beach aren't crowded and loungers are always available. I love the Riu's policy on beach towels - they let you have as many towels as you wish and there is no towel card/tag system.

The beach is man-made and there is a big and sudden drop-off in the ocean. Definitely not my favourite beach we have been to, but it wasn't crowded, the water was very calm and there were no beach vendors which are definite pluses.

The pools were clean and not crowded. Bar service was excellent.

The food was all very good. We stuck to the buffets (jerk chicken at lunch is amazing) and the Chill Out Lounge. We went over to the Riu Montego Bay buffet for dinner one night and it was very good as well, although big and busy. The Riu Montego Bay is also where the evening entertainment is.

Our room was a good size and well appointed. I loved that they had Canadian channels available on TV.

We took advantage of the on-site water activities. There are free paddle boats, kayaks and sailboats available to guests. There is also a water activities booth right on the beach (Riu Montego Bay side. Very close to Riu Palace e.g. 250 feet away) where you can purchase snorkeling, scuba driving or booze-cruise-on-a-catamaran excursions. We did the snorkeling package. It was $30 per person and took about an hour and a half. They supplied the gear. It wasn't crowded or rushed. The guys on the boat were very knowledgeable and helpful and they told us a bit about the Montego Bay area and the conservation efforts to keep the coral reef healthy.

The staff is absolutely amazing. We have never had service even close to this at any other resort we have been to. It is truly the staff alone that make this such a great resort. Whether it's the housekeeping staff, the bartenders and servers, front desk staff, maintenance or the activities co-ordinators, everyone goes above and beyond to ensure that you are enjoying your stay. Many staff took the time to talk to us and made us aware of the entertainment, activities etc. that were available to guests that day and week. They were never annoying or pushy about getting guests involved.Thank-you to all of the Riu staff - you are amazing.

Overall a great resort for rest and relaxation.

Feel free to message me if you have questions.

Room Tip: Just about any room above the ground floor will have an ocean view.

We stayed at the Riu Palace Jamaica for our honeymoon from Jan 20-Jan 27 and absolutely loved it! The resort was very clean and very accommodating. The staff was always so friendly and tried their best to take care of you at any opportunity. It's definitely more of a quiet resort, as it's couples only. However, if you feel like some night life or more excitement, the Riu Montego Bay is just steps away. It was so nice to have access to both of these, as you could pick and choose what you wanted to do, based on your mood. The Palace definitely has more of a cozy feeling but my husband and I really liked it because it felt very relaxing.

We upgraded our room to a junior oceanview suite. It was so nice to sit on the balcony and look out at the ocean. The rooms were very contemporary and had lots of really cool features like a rain shower head, lighting controlled by your room key and the AC shut off when the balcony door was opened. What's more, we had quite the assortment of channels, including some Canadian ones, which was great to keep track of the news/weather at home :).

The food at the buffet and restaurants were great as well. My only complaint would be the ability to go to all of the restaurants, as they limit this. I believe this is actually a Riu policy and not specific to this resort. It would have been nice to try out all four but hopefully this is something that can be addressed in the future.

Overall the quality of every aspect, exceeded our expectations, and we can't wait to go back!

Recently returned from a relaxing trip at the RIU Palace Jamaica. This is a new resort and I should add some qualifiers to my review.

There are actually two RIU resorts in Montego bay. The older, larger RIU Montego Bay is located adjacent to the RIU Palace. My group stayed at the Palace. The Palace is small in size (narrow), new and connects to the RIU Montego Bay. RIU Palace is an adults only all inclusive. I'd rate the resort in four categories.

Staff: "A" The staff were very helpful, friendly and everywhere. Couldn't have asked for better service!

Food: "A" The food was delicious and fresh. Forget the speciality restaurants, you can't book them without standing in line for an hour. Honestly, we didn't care, as the food at the buffet was outstanding.

Facility/Grounds: "B" The resort facilities are new and adequate. I've stayed in many all inclusives in the caribbean that had more spacious and better amenities but we enjoyed our stay.

Location: "C" The major drawback about this resort is its location. It's five minutes from Sangster International Airport. Terrific for a short ride from the airport BUT it's directly over the flight path of all the jets taking off. 15-20 flights per day rumble over your head. We stayed a week and got used to it, but I probably wouldn't return for this reason.

Room Tip: Ocean front rooms are the best. The ocean view rooms actually overlook a vacant lot or drainage ditc...

Overall a very nice resort.
Cleanliness: Very clean. I was really impressed with maintenance staff. The rooms, eating areas, hallways and the bathrooms by the bars were all super clean.
Food: The food was very good for an all inclusive. We ate at one specialty restaurant and had the rest of our meals at the buffet. We spoke to several other guests, and most seemed to agree that the buffet offered a variety and quality that made the specialty restaurants not worth the time and reservation process. The snacks at the aqua bar were perfect after a long day of drinking. The chicken shack on the Riu property is definitely worth the short walk.
Service: Excellent. Not sure how full the resort was, but the staff to guest ratio is great. Never waited for a drink at the bar or restaurant. The bar tenders would make anything you wanted from tropical frozen concoctions to simple shots. The wait staff was very attentive and all had great personalities and made you feel very welcome (Nadine was great). Spent way too many hours at all the bars. The bar tenders were great. Kemar, Richard, Shevroy, Christopher, Andrie all excellent. Natasha at the pool bar was fantastic. Our safe had a problem and even general management was super attentive- Lara was all over it and resolved the issue within 30 minutes.
Pools/Beach: The pools were very nice. Never crowded. The pool bar was great. The beach was nice. It is man made, but they did a nice job. Secluded, and surrounded by a couple of jetties that give it a calm cove like feel. The water was just warm enough in the ocean and pool. Plenty of lounge chairs, in either the sun or shade. No need to get up early and reserve a chair. Even the outdoor beds were available at most times. The beach does not compare to Negril, but we knew that going in, and it was better than I had expected.
Exercise room: small and limited- but that is to be expected. The Riu next door had a larger weight room, but no dumbbells.
Rooms: This is my only disappointment. The beds were not very comfortable. A bit firm and small. The hallways were a bit loud and you could not help but hear the people above the room. All in all they were nice, but not to the level of the Iberostar Grande or the Royal Cancun/Playa Del Carmen.
For the price this is hard to beat. I would be happy to return to the Riu
