“Awesome!!”
Reviewed 14 May 2014

We spent 4 days at the Riu Palace in the middle of April. Our trip was everything we expected!! The hotel is beautiful and very clean. Having access to the Riu next door gave us the best of both worlds! A nice, quieter, adult only resort and if we felt like it, we could go next door for more "action". The food, drinks and staff were excellent. A couple of dollars for tips go a long way but the staff were never pushy about it. We asked a waitress what a certain drink was that she was bringing someone and we said we will have to get one after lunch. She came back and found us about 1 hour later with our drinks! She remembered! The food selection at the buffet was great and plentiful. The restaurants were small but had 2 seatings and we didn't have trouble getting a table. I can't say enough nice things about the Riu Palace. There was plenty to do if you wanted from activities in the pool, sports at the sister resort next door to shows/dance parties at night. Everyone we met (guests and staff) was pleasant and friendly. It was the perfect relaxation vacation that we had hoped for!

My husband and I stayed in this resort for one week in March 2014 and we enjoyed every bit of it. It is a small complex compare to others I have been to but they have everything. I love the coziness and luxury feeling that this hotel gives. Staffs are extremely friendly and professional. We did not have anything to complain about. We would definitely come back.

Visited in early May of 2014. The Palace is a great compliment to its neighbor the RIU. The Riu Palace is much smaller than the Riu, but that plays to it's advantage. Being smaller, there is no morning scramble to claim chairs on the beach or by the pool. Chairs are ample and can be gotten anytime throughout the day.
The food was fantastic. You basically have the buffet for breakfast and lunch, but the quantity and quality are both excellent. The dinner restaurants are small, even given the small hotel size. Make sure you get there a few minutes early to guarantee your seating.
Service was amazing as wait staff are everywhere to offer drinks. They accept tips, but aren't pushy about it. A few well timed dollars will only enhance your trip experience.
Next door has the water activities and decent excursions. The snorkeling trip to the reef was fantastic!
Biggest drawback is lack of nightlife activities. After dinner, you can either hit up the clubs next door or go to bed... That's about it.
Helpful tip... Use the Palace gym, not the one at the Riu proper.

Room Tip: Upgrade to garden or beach view

We spent 2 weeks at the Riu Palace at the end of April & beginning of May 2014. This trip was wonderful. The hotel was immaculate- rooms were lovely (we got the courtyard view which offered partial ocean view and were very happy with it) and everything is shiny new and clean. The food was excellent- our favourites were Krystal and Zen, followed by the steak house and italian. The buffet also well-exceeded our expectations. They had a nightly roast and a sushi bar and you couldn't fault the quality of anything. The resort is small, but spotless- the beach is small but protected from breakers and was lovely for swimming albeit not crystal-clear. The swim up bar at the pool was well-stocked and Richard always had a smile on his face. The ENT crew did a fantastic job of keeping guests entertained without being annoying- Koro, Rodea, Monique & Lorenzo were fantastic ambassadors for the Riu.
The thing that really touched us was how amazingly friendly and kind the staff were- from the moment we checked in with Karreth and her dazzling smile, through the questions we had from time to time, the front desk staff was helpful, friendly, and accommodating. The bartenders (Richard, Fabian) were excellent, making great drinks and being genuinely friendly. The wait staff from the pool (Recardo), to the buffet (Audley & Audley) and the a la carte restaurants (Tasha & Jason at Zen, Trevarda, Shava & the amazing singing Tyron at Krystal, and Delmar who served us at the steak house) were so good that I have memorized their names because they took the time to do the same. Kagalia Grant- she was management, but she was everywhere - always helpful, always smiling.

The other thing that I found notably impressive was the fact that the executive chef & his assistant were always around, checking the quality of everything- and the Food & Beverage manager whose name I never learned worked tirelessly 24/7 (okay, maybe he slept, but I didn't see any signs of that!) and the staff's dedication to quality, cleanliness & hospitality was undeniable.

I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: people who upgraded to "ocean view" and "garden view" seemed unhappy with their...

This was our third Riu we been to. We have stayed @ the Riu Yucatán & Riu Ocho Rios. We felt the services was the same @ all 3 no better or worse than any other all inclusive or cruise. Not to say the services was not good. They were always pleasant & smiling. I have to say after reading the reviews I expected more. The drink services @ the pool with the swim up bar was very slow. Something like waiting for a drink @ a casino.

The guest room were as pictured very bright white & clean. The king size bed was very comfortable & the sheets were changed daily as was the refrigerator restocked. You can ask for a different beer if you so choose. We had a lovely housekeeper Diana. She went out of her way to get our attention to thank us for the tip & the chocolate Lindt bonbons we left for her on the nightstand. There was a nightly turndown services & also provided clean towels if necessary. I agree with the other reviewers about the lack of privacy entering and exiting the shower also the shower floor can be very slippery.

As far as the A La Carte restaurants we ate @ the Steak House it opens @7p we lined up @6:30 & were the first to be seated. Men can wear shorts because it is outside all other A La Carte restaurants men must wear pants. The 3 of us enjoyed our meals my husbands steak was large & thin & very tender. I ordered just the surf & had 2 swewers of grilled shrimp & our friend had ribs they fell right off the bone. The meal was uniquely served and it was a lot of fun. L'Acquedotto the Italian restaurant opens @ 6:30 we line up @ 6. Arriving a half-hour before they open seems to be the secret to getting a table. We all enjoyed our meal and the Hors d'oeuvre bar. We also ate @ Zen this was my least favorite of the 3 A La Carte we tried. We did not eat @ Krystal we did not care for anything on the menu. Having to line up a half hour earlier for dinner became annoying. We felt rushed and preferred eating at the buffet at our own leisure.

We felt that the buffet @ the Palace had limited selections & most days we walk over to the sister resort & ate there for breakfast, lunch & dinner. They had selections that the Palace did not have such as Duck with Orange sauce. We became known as the people who ate next door lol. Also I preferred the jerk chicken fresh off the grill, you could put the jerk sauce on it if you wanted. We received good service @ both resorts during meals & @ the bars. The sister resort dose not serve top shelf liquor. That was the reason we choose the Palace. I brought a large drink with me to go over to watch the shows. Don't be afraid to go next-door it's not that crazy over there during dinner. During pre shows it's a different story it was loud & crazy. We were there after Easter and both resorts were not @ capacity.

Friday Night there was a Retro party @ the Aqua bar & Sunday Night a White party. Pack something white for white night. If not everyone is still welcome. Both parties were fun & entertaining. As others reviewers have written the Aqua Bar should be utilized more often. It is open 24 hr & has a sm selection of snacks. While I'm on the subject of the Aqua bar the beach in front of the bar is a very nice peaceful tranquil area with a hammock, sun beds, lounges chairs & tables. We used this area on the last day after a day @ the pool. I wish I would have found this slice of heaven sooner. Clive was shocked to see us there & was more than happy to bring us a drink.

Both pools were clean & the water was warm. There are plenty of lounges both on the beach & at the pool but if you want to have a certain lounge it is best to get up early and put your towel on it to reserve. Like you do @ every other resort. After noon there's aqua aerobics taught by Lorenzo he's the man also volleyball horseshoes and darts during the day. The Sliver birds played on Tues @ the pool. Each day around 3p the music seamed to become louder and sounded like Jamaican rap. I don't think it was enjoyed by many guest. That was usually the time we left.

Every evening the lobby bar Vogue had live entertainment except Monday night while we were there. Maybe due to the Silver birds playing at the sister resort. That is a show not to be missed and also the Michael Jackson show. Both started @ 9:30 if you want a seat close to the stage you will have to go earlier. We knew the routine from staying at the Riu in Ocho last year and chose not to go to the pre show. I found it loud and annoying. We end each night in the Lobby Bar with Fabian.

There are numerous places to sit and relax catch up on email while using their free
Wi-Fi or have a quite night cap. Both inside & outside We had no problem with the Wi-Fi. I turned off my Cellular data to make sure I was using there Wi-Fi not my data.

We enjoyed our 9 days the time flew we met a lot of nice guest & staff. Next time we would like to try the Riu Palace in Negril or Aruba.

Room Tip: Ask for a upgrade it can't hurt. At first we were told no maybe the next day. Then they gave us...

I had a great stay at the Riu Palace. The service was outstanding. We usually had the same waiters for each meal. Osborne and Delmar at the buffet and Dianna for drinks. The food was great, but the alcoholic beverages weren't the best. My only complaint is the room situation. my mom and I shared a room that did NOT have a curtain that separated the sink area from the rest of the room. Some rooms had a curtain, but ours didn't even have a rail to install a curtain. The room design is intended for couples only.

Room Tip: Do not get a garden view room. It overlooks the bush next door. not a garden
