“Excellent Vacation”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 March 2014

We were a little unsure of this place prior to going due to some of the reviews on here.
Thankfully we nothing to be worried about.
Great hotel! Staff were very friendly and keen to assist in any way possible.
Food was fantastic and drinks were perfect too.

The hotel is a little bit older but with that comes character. We really liked the fact that it was a relatively small resort too. The setup of the grounds meant that there was always somewhere quiet to hang out away from the other guests. There was also plenty of activities going on if you wanted to get involved or be entertained.

Overall we couldn't be happier with our choice of hotel and would recommend it to everyone!

First of all the staff make this unique hotel. This hotel has character with it's old charm. It's dated but clean and comfortable. Bar staff at the main bar by the stage are excellent friendly and always keeping our Bubba's full.Snorkelling in front of the hotel was fun and free. Only complaint should have more snorkel equipment on site.Great kayaking along the waterfront. If you stay at this hotel you have to go on the Glass bottom or snorkelling Tour. Book at the water sports centre. $20.00 for 1 hour. Captain Polly is very knowledgable about the reef and a great tour guide. Only wish we had done this tour early in the week and would have done the snorkelling tour. Food was good and lots of selection. Chicken wings and the meat patties are the Snack bar different and good. Jerk chicken and steak at the Al a cart was excellent. Talked to some of the other guests alot of repeat customers. All in all in was a great vacation and the hotel has great friendly staff. Internet was no problem used the lobby computers for free. If you want to use your own just pay $5.00 for 1 hour . Don't have to use it all at once.

Room Tip: Stayed in room 208 great location to elevator or stairs. Just outside the room stairs to the main lo...

We booked the Montego Bay Royal Decameron for our vaction based on tripadvisor reviews, cost, and location.. One thing to understand is that this hotel is older and shouldn't be confused or compared to with a 5 star resort. Upon our arrival we were soon informed this hotel was overbooked. The staff made arraingements for us to stay at the Montego Bay RIU for a couple of days. During my research before we booked a hotel I did take note that the RIU was at least comparable, if not a better rated hotel. It was fine, the food was good and the grounds are very nice. It is a very big hotel with the typical 6am scene of reserving a chair in the prime locations around the pool etc. Enough about the RIU.
When we returned back to the Decameron our room was ready. Ocean front 1st floor with a small patio and direct access to the oceanfront. The room was clean, nothing special, but the location made it great. The beds were very comfortable. Almost all of the rooms have a great ocean view with the backdrop of moutains and beautiful sunsets.
For the most part the bars made consistantly good drinks, the food at the buffet was good and not repetitive. The staff was friendly.
The grounds here are compact but nontheless enjoyable. The actual beach is very small but there is a great sandy area facing the ocean with sun, shade, and cabanas. Never a problem getting a chair in a location that suits you. There are hammocks, and "swing" like chairs in a couple of areas also. The pools are clean and temperate. Snorkeling right on sight.
I found this eveyrbit as enjoyable as a larger, "more modern" hotel. If you want a good location, good food, and a relaxing vacation you will like it. Like most resorts, the entertainment will not please everyone and most nights we skipped it.
One more important thing, Ms. Brown who is the customer relations manager on site was very helpful making our stay enjoyable, especially after the initial overbooking confusion.

Room Tip: Most rooms are oceanfront.

Great place overall. Good service, great rooms, excellent food and drinks! Very small area of actual walk-in beach area, but plenty of ocean front to see and swim in. Very friendly bar and dining staff! We had lobster dinner (private) on the pier. It was an incredible setting, but the lobster was somewhat over cooked. Everything else was fine!

Room Tip: ground level rooms are ocean view and just steps to everything!

This was our fourth visit to the RDMB so needless to say we like this place. Pros for us are the location to the airport, a five minute drive and you are here. Location to restaurants, shopping, attractions, located directly on the Hip Strip which has lots of small souvenir shops, restaurants, Margaritaville etc. There is a Juta taxi lot across the street so you are very easily able to arrange private tours, transportation etc. The beaches are small but you are able to snorkel here without having to go on a boat to see fish. We have seen a few changes since we started staying here, one noticeable one being the variety at the buffet. Our first couple visits there was more options but even now the food is still tasty. The rooms are comfortable as are the beds, my only complaint with the rooms are the lighting in the bathroom, very dark! Now for the bad, we have never had anything stolen here until now. We arrived at 10:30 am and were aware that we would have to check our luggage into a locked room until our rooms were ready at 3:00 pm. So we opened our suitcases took out our beach bags which were already packed with swimwear, sunscreen etc. everything we knew we would need for the day. My husband changed in the washroom just off of the lobby while I stayed with our luggage, then he watched it while I changed. We kept our money and passports with us as we knew it was not a good idea to let those things out of our sight. We went with the bellhop and watched him unlock the door to the room and deposit our luggage and relock the room. We went about our day with no more concerns. At 3 pm we checked in and unpacked our luggage at this time I noticed that our rolled up toiletry bag was not rolled tight and one of the zipped up pockets of this bag had things coming out. At the time my elderly father was having issues with his room so being preoccupied with this I didn't pay attention to why this bag was like this. It wasn't until the next morning that I was trying to remember where I had put the 10 five dollar bills for tip money that it came to me, when I pack to come on this trip I had put those fives in that pocket of the rolled up toiletry bag and of course they were now gone. Now I know you shouldn't put money in your suitcase but it was a last minute thing I threw in and didn't worry about it too much. I would never accuse the hotel if I weren't sure of where it was stolen but we opened in our luggage in the lobby and it was fine but after it was stored in the locked room it was messed with and money missing. I went to the manager just to make him aware, I didn't expect it to get it back , the manager said he would look into it. So first time for this happening to us at this resort. This did not affect our vacation but was not expecting this after no issues our first three visits.

I spent the last week of February 2014 at the Royal Decameron in Montego Bay. The hotel is alittle dated but what it lacks in luxury the staff make up ten fold. I first would like to say that the animation team are a blast. A special thanks to Kim Kim, Tee Tee, Sprinkles, AJ from JA, and the rest. We went in to this hotel knowing that it was not a 5 star from other reviews. The food was good. We were able to book the a la carte as many times as we wanted. The buffet had good selection each day. We had an issue with the air conditioner in our room at first, the hotel maintenance staff were there right away and fixed it, "No Problem". The Jamaican people have a pace that they live by and once you realize that everything is easy. If your looking for a first class beach you won't find it here, but there are some small beach areas. My wife and I snorkeled out in front of the resort and saw some pretty cool stuff. We did the Cool Running combo tour to Dunns River Falls and we did the glistening waters. I will review those separately. In short we enjoyed both. Chairs were always available as were towels. Unlike comments from other reviewers.

Room Tip: Most rooms are ocean view, stay away from garden view if you can.

If you have an image of a large shiny all inclusive, this isn't it. The Montego Beach is not large, and sits on a constrained site with limited beach not much more than walking distance from the airport. It's seen better days, but that doesn't make it poor value: the food and drink offer is good, the small pools with swim-up bar are good, and the little bit of beach is clean and shallowish, though watch for rocks.
