The rooms are clean and the staff pretty friently but the place is at least 35 years old and the price reflects what you get. Off the resort the immediate area is kind of rough with local vendors who are extremely pushy trying to get you into their shops. Worse so than PV or Cabo in Mexico as a comparison, Maybe they are just hunmgrier because it is late season. I suspect the reason for no updates to the hotel is the place is going to be demolished soon and rebuilt in a better area of town.

5 minutes from the airport is a plus, food was okay even compared to 4 star Mexican all inclusives, and the Red Stripe and local whiskey is better than Mexican all-inclusive fare as well. The fact they are offering a free transfer to another Decameron location 45 minutes away "just to see if you prefer it" (AKA timeshare sale) was a huge disappointment.

Second time at Royal Decameron I was there back in 2012, Airport 5 minutes from resort Check in was nice and quick, girl at front who checked us was very nice, rooms are still the same they are very basic but nice and large, not fancy it could of been cleaner but has everything you need. We stayed in the Sunset building again and we loved it views were incredible and we were a few feet away from the beach.
Beach was beautiful we only went to the beach by the Sunset section which really isn't much of a beach but had just enough sand we brought our own chairs down there it truly was paradise the water was crystal clear just amazing. Never bothered going to the pools we are beach people.
The food was actually much improved from the first time I was there so was very happy about that. There is also a snack shack that serves burgers & hot dogs all afternoon till very late in the evening if you get the munchies when the buffet is not open, also went to the restaurant one night what I ate was okay nice switch up from going to the buffet.
Staff was nice and friendly shows at night were good and some very funny worth checking out after dinner.
Do not buy from gift shop on resort extremely overpriced, cough medicine was $20 US dollars go right outside resort across the street to the supermarket bought the same bottle for $3. Completely safe to leave the resort & one night we walked past Margeritaville to get some real Jerk chicken and we were in the Ghetto and felt completely safe.Whoever approaches you on the street if you are not interested in what they are selling just say no thank you and keep it moving you will be fine.
This was our 2nd trip to RD we had a great time and I would definitely return. I miss it already.

Room Tip: Sunset Rooms are away from the main building so are nice and quiet.

We stayed at the Royal Decameron March 2014. From the front desk to the entertainment crew everyone was very friendly and made us feel like family. With its close proximity to the airport and local Hip Strip you get to experience the real Jamaica.Woke up every morning walked out on the terrace and had a grand view of the ocean. We partied at the resort and at the local establishments on the hip strip. We went to give special thank you to Mark, Chris, Kim, Akeem, TeTe, Brittany,Aj and Sprinkles! Thank you for making our trip unforgettable.

We stayed at the royal decameron 3/24-3/27. My husband, teenage son, and myself. I did extensive research on the hotels in montego bay and was a little nervous about the negative reviews about the hotel. Most reviews were positive so we took a leap of faith and much to our surprise, the royal decameron exceeded our expectations. We couldn't have pick a more perfect resort. Although a little dated , it has alot of character. We didn't experience none of the negative reviews that some guests had. Room was clean and tidy, water pressure was fine, hot water the whole stay, ac worked fine, staff was friendly and inviting, food was EXCELLENT, nightly shows were very entertaining, grounds very well kept, and felt very comfortable and safe the entire stay. I would definitely highly recommend the royal decameron to everyone. You wont be disappointed. We would absolutely stay here again and we're looking forward to returning to the royal decameron real soon.

This was my first time in MoBay, but my 6th time in JA, and I will go back. My girlfriend & I did an "Attitude Adjustment" get away and that' exactly what it was.
Judy had never been out of the US, so I thought it best to stay close to airport. Our travel agent found RD, so we decdied it was perfect. It was!
The front desk crew was super! The room was very comfortable. The patio was our favorite, well, next to the pool. Never had a problem getting a lounge chair & Paris made sure we had floats.
Best time ever! Can't wait to go back!
