This place is nothing more than okay. The view is lovely and the beds are clean however the rooms could do with a lick of paint. Check in was the worst experience. The guy took 5 phone calls while checking us in. After a 16 hour journey I was fuming and our rooms were not ready. The food was okay but could have been better. The bar grill smelt awful and the food wasn't too good at all there. The staff hugely need trained in customer service, the lobby bar staff just seem interested in chatting to their mates and you feel like your intruding on their conversation to ask for a drink. The evening entertainment starts at 9.30pm which is far too late. Mixed views on the quality as one show was good and another appalling. The so called hip strip is a few souvenir shops staffed by pushy people trying to get you in and lots of empty derelict shops and business. To top it, it is on a busy road and smells of car fumes. Through the night there must have been motorbikes screeching down which woke me up. On a positive note there is a good choice of sunbeds and hammocks as there doesn't seem too many people here. There is potential for this place to be lovely with better trained staff and entertainment.

As a seasoned traveller I have to say I was very impressed with the beauty of the location of the Royal Decameron, but unfortunately that is where it ends. We were fortunate to spent 4 days at the Royal DeCameron and 4 days at the Hilton Rose and it was like night and day. The staff at the Royal Decameron do not know the meaning of customer service. The management really need to spend time training their staff. The bar staff think it is their job to pour drinks, not serve their customers. The gym air conditioning constantly blew the breaker and it took three phone calls each time to get someone out to fix it while we were sweating like crazy waiting as it was so hot and humid. The lamp shades in our room were completely rusty. The "entertainment" at meals was absolutely atrocious. We actually had to move as far away as possible and none of the three could play or carry a tune. The housekeepers were very good, the room was always cleaned exceptionally well except our neighbors had bed bugs and they had to fumigate their room.

There was only one hobie cat and when we arrived the sail was ripped and we were told that "maybe tomorrow" it would be repaired. It took two days before they decided to put it back on unrepaired. The next day the rudder broke off and sank thus putting an end to any sailing.

Under all inclusive activities on the check in sheet they say they offer an introductory scuba class in the pool but when we tried to sign up for it they stated we had to pay to take the intro along with an actual dive.

Then there were the pools which in theory were great except for the extremely loud music and host who also could not carry a tune. They played loud non stop reggae music which made it impossible to lay out and read a book in peace and quiet.

There was a buffet and one other restaurant that was Jamaican cuisine. The menu never changed therefore if you went twice unless you were crazy about the food there wasn't much of a variety. The buffet was just alright but not a lot of variety either.

I think what struck us the most was the contrast between the staff at the Hilton Rose and the staff at the Royal Decameron. Both resorts are all inclusives and although the price point is higher at the Hilton Rose, the staff training was completely different. When we first arrived we thought it was because we were in a third world country and they just didn't know any better, until we went to the Hilton and the staff were all without a doubt exceptionally well trained, friendly, accommodating and fun whereas the staff at the Royal Decameron were there to do their job and that did not include being friendly to the customer.

Room Tip: IF you do book here make sure you ask for a ocean view. They have 144 ocean view rooms and only 13 g...

My girlfriend and I arrived at the Royal Decameron on June 7th 2014 ready for a calm, relaxing, culturally infused vacation... and that's exactly what we got. I had been to Montego Bay before, but it was my girlfriends first time, so I wanted to be sure she got a feel for Jamaica even though we didn't plan on doing a whole lot besides lounging at the resort. I must say we were both very pleased with our experience. We were greeted promptly by the bellhop, Dave. He loaded our luggage and brought us to the front desk for check-in. We were checked in promptly and brought welcome drinks as we were issued our room keys. We were escorted to the room and our vacation began! The room wasn't anything fancy, but it was clean and very spacious. Everything was comfortable and worked properly except for a minor plumbing issue with the toilet, which we didn't even bother to address. It's Jamaica mon... no problem! ;-) We had a nice patio overlooking the Caribbean. We went out on the town the first night, and had a blast in downtown Montego Bay. We decided to skip the "Hip Strip" which is only a short, and I would say pretty safe walk down the road from the resort, instead choosing to enjoy a much more local reggae party. We were the only white people! it was quite an awesome experience and everyone was friendly and welcoming. We spent the rest of our trip enjoying the resort and hanging with our favorite bartender Rayon. He made sure to keep the drinks flowing! Breakfast and lunch were served in only the one buffet style restaurant and dinner was served in one of two restaurants, with the ladder being smaller, slightly nicer and requiring a reservation. The food was different each day, so variety was good, but in general, I'd say an area for improvement could be the meal service. The timing for meals was sort of limited compared to other all inclusives I've visited, but not a major problem. You just had to be sure to time your meals accordingly. There was also a pool/beach cafe that served sandwiches and pizzas. it was open as an additional lunch option and late night snack bar. The self serve red strip was a plus! :-) The entertainment was run by a very hip young man named Sadiki. We really enjoyed his "swagger" as we called it. He was very friendly and definitely a talented entertainer. He oversaw and supervised all day time activities by the pool and the shows at night. He made us laugh multiple times during our trip. The water activities included in the price were limited and not in great shape... another area of opportunity, but the small wind surfing catamaran looked cool and only required a quick reservation and small tip. We took advantage of the glass bottom boat for snorkeling, but that was $20 per person. But Captain Paulie was very accommodating and took us to a nice reef just off the coast from the resort. It was a quick, but a worthwhile trip. In general, the resort was nothing fancy, but more than adequate for the price we paid for a 4 night getaway. Many people were staying 5-7 days and I can see how that would be enjoyable, but as I'm a bit more of an adventurous traveler generally, the 4 nights were suitable for us. If you're looking for a high-end with all the frills touristy type of vacation, this probably isn't for you. But if you're looking for a great deal that includes food and drinks and still cheap enough to encourage you to explore the surrounding area, then this is a gem. I would consider staying here again if visiting Montego Bay and would happily recommend to budget conscious friends looking for a simple, pleasurable visit in Jamaica.

Room Tip: Almost all rooms are facing the Caribbean. There's only a small handful of rooms in the front of...

My boyfriend and I visited there last summer. My first time to Jamaica and what a treat! The hotel was absolutely lovely. The staff were so friendly and helpful and certainly made us feel very welcome. The food was great and always to a high standard. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The hotel is in a good location on the hip strip. We took many walks along here. Just be careful as some locals can be very persistent with you to buy items. Advice is to just be firm with them.
The whole stay was amazing and we have already looked to return. We wouldn't even consider any other hotel in Jamaica as we loved the privacy and security the hotel have. Thank you for a wonderful stay!!

This was a great choice for our first trip to Jamaica. It's a relatively small resort, which suited us just fine. We didn't expect luxury, and appreciated the personal attention. All of the staff were attentive and really got to know us, and to anticipate our needs, during our 5-day stay. It was never too crowded, which meant no waiting for meals or drinks, and no problem finding a perfect spot on the beach.

Views were simply amazing!!

Rooms were comfortable and clean. The only disappointment was the front desk, who were not very helpful any time we had questions. Also, only 1 of our rooms were available at check in, and so our party ended up being split up, instead of in adjoining rooms. CAUTION: Balconies have adjoining doors with NO SECURITY LOCK between them. (Doors to the room from the balcony, however, were secure.) This is fine if you're booked with friends, but we had strangers on the other side of our balcony.

The rest of the staff more than made up for the minor disappointments with the front desk. Everyone else was so helpful and treated us warmly during our stay, and Marco was especially helpful in giving us ideas for excursions.

We definitely hope to return some day!

Room Tip: We stayed in Rooms 303 and 309. Room 303 was in better condition and had the best view, with no tree...

Was my first visit in Jamaica. The Hotel is very conveniently located, close to the airport (very close, maybe too much, you can see and hear planes the all day); staff very friendly and helpful; great atmosphere, food drinks and music all day long!
I really enjoyed the familiar feeling. Don't choose this hotel if you want a quite and silent vacation.

Room Tip: all ocean view! Avoid first floor for privacy reasons..

I will start this off by saying I have very high expectations for an all inclusive resort. I was actually in Jamaica for a mission trip so I stayed here because it was where everyone else did. This hotel got the job done in that we had a bed and food. No more. Bed wasn't awesome. Food was just fine.

Upon arrival we found that our room that was supposed to be booked for 2 people through southwest was only booked for one. After waiting for at least 30 minutes we were told this was not the resorts fault and that we would have to pay $154/night to add someone onto the room. This may have been acceptable for a top end resort, but RD is far from top end.

The room was simple. Sheets seemed clean which was great and the view was amazing. The bathroom was where it really fell short. The grout was black and the water took 5+ minutes to heat up. Once the shower was hot the tub didn't drain. At least 6 inches of water in the tub by the end of a shower.

The beach was great, thankfully because the pool was dirty even though it was closed early the night before to be cleaned. We drank beer the whole time because the liquor drinks were weak and service was incredibly slow.

I survived the trip. I won't be returning and wouldn't recommend you do either, unless bare minimum is your style.
