“Great luxury private resort”
Reviewed 9 July 2012

This place is a jewel in the crown. Complete luxury and great service. It's a mile or two outside of OR but very much needed as I wouldn't particulary want to stay there.
The Jamaica Inn has total relaxion and calm. You have your own private beach and the service is excellent. Waking up to your own outdoor lounge and having breakfast overlooking the croquet pitch was amazing.
It's peace and quiet, and quiet and relaxing at it's best.
Probably would not recommend it for families as it would spoil the peace and quiet relaxing style. Nearly forgot , watching hummingbirds from the veranda was nearly unforgetable.

The Jamaiaca Inn is as good as it gets. The staff here are absolutely fantastic, with most of them having worked there for about thirty years plus. The hotel oozes tradition, from the mahogany bar - a favorite haunt of Winston Churchill's to the stylish of bedrooms. There is no TV, internet etc which is great. You really just turn off and relax. We looked at Goldeneye prior to arriving, but this place is the REAL Jamaica top-end hospitality. No gimmicks, just a reputation for service and quality that stands-alone.

My husband and I loved Jamaica Inn. The property is beautiful! The room is great, especially the veranda, which is outside. The food was delicious and the service was perfect. Every employee was friendly and helpful. There is usually live music during the dinner service. There are complementary cocktails on the beach and of course lunch is served out there also. Since it is so small, it was very quiet and relaxing. The actual beach is in a cove which mKes it cozy, but not small. The spa and the area around the spa is charming and elegant. I had a wonderful massage outside. My husband had terrific experiences while scuba diving also. The hotel arranges whatever you want, including drivers who will take you anywhere. This is the first place that my husband and I desperately want to return to.

We love Jamaica, and have traveled extensively all around the country. This trip, we rented a car and drove from Montego Bay along the North Coast. The first two nights, we stayed in All-Inclusive resorts. Not for us. They felt like Disney World. The crowd was low class, the pool was packed and there were herds of people filing into the dining room for the buffet.

Finally, we arrived at the Jamaica Inn... where we felt the REAL JAMAICA. The resort has a charming feel, classic-plantation style, impeccably clean, well groomed grounds, and a warm, welcoming staff. We knew immediately this is where we would spend the rest of our vacation.

The rooms are wonderful! Each room has an outdoor living room that connects to the air-conditioned bedroom. We loved sitting outside reading and writing, and enjoying the view of the turquoise waters. It was so quiet and peaceful. We really had time to relax. The beach is private, and nestled between two cliffs... lovely. There is also a croquet course, hammocks, a tiki bar, an indoor bar complete with piano, and cosy commons areas for socializing with other guests. This is the type of resort where you can mingle and make friends with everyone staying there, or retreat to your room and never be bothered.

The food is creative and prepared to perfection. Both day and night, dining on the cliffs over looking the sea was breath-taking. Everything at the Jamaica Inn is VERY WELL DONE! Mary Philips, the general manager, is a wonderful host and beautiful person. She made us feel like we are part of a special family of friends. We will be back!

I highly recommend visiting Dunn’s River Falls ON A PRIVATE TOUR! It is amazing, and you want to go when the masses tourists are NOT there! Also, go see the Bob Marley Mausoleum. You get to see the mountainous hillside of Jamaica, and all the little towns along the way. If you can, request Captain Crazy to give the tour... he is so much fun!

There are many treasures in Jamaica, enjoy.

Room Tip: I preferred having the 1st floor rooms. I like how you can walk right up to your outdoor living roo...

The Jamaica Inn was undoubtedly the most wonderful hotel, with amazing service and fabulous staff who were just so intent on making sure everything was the best it could be.

We met many very regular return visitors who, along with the staff, could not have made us feel more welcome. The rooms - and verandahs in particular, were stunning.

We did a days cycling tour in the Blue Mountains, which was undoubtedly the best day of our holiday and cannot be recommended highly enough (they coach you to the top so you only cycle down hill!!).

I just wish this hotel was in another Caribbean Island! Unfortunately due to the number of 'all inclusive' resorts, there is no incentive for areas outside of the hotel to be 'tourist friendly' for independent travellers. We did some good day trips to 'mystic mountain' (an unexpectedly good experience!), Dunns River Falls & the cycle ride but didn't feel comfortable at doing much exploring on our own, which we would normally do.

We ate at Evitas and Toscaninis - both excellent, especially the latter, and both offered complimentary transport on request.

Unfortunately for us, despite the first class hotel, we probably won't return to Jamaica simply because the other Caribbean Islands we have visited have a much more laid back, safer feel. This should in no way detract from Jamica Inn however. if we do find ourselves back there I'd look nowhere else.

If you are looking for a huge hotel with loud music, conga lines, limbo contests and an all-night disco, do NOT go to Jamaica Inn!

If you are looking for an authentic old-world Jamaican experience and a place where you can relax on one of the most beautiful and private beaches in the Caribbean, Jamaica Inn is unmatched

My wife and I have been coming here since 2003. We try to get here at least twice a year, several years we've made it three times and one year, we came four times. Why would we keep coming back to the same place over and over and over again? I can only tell you this...it is a great fit for what we like to do on a vacation...relax!

Here's the low-down on the important features:

ROOMS: There are several kinds of rooms that cover most preferences. The premium rooms (The White Suite (our favorite), The Blue Cottage, Cottage 7, Cottage 3, and Cottage 4) are all unique and spectacular in their own way. The website does a great job showing you what those rooms look like...yes, they actually are THAT awesome. The other rooms include a nice indoor area with recently remodeled bathrroms in addition to an outdoor patio that is about the same size as the indoor area. The patio/balcony is perfect for a romantic dinner (more on the food options later) and for a wonderful breakfast experience. Some rooms are right on the beach...you can hop over your patio railing and you are steps away from your beach palapa. Other rooms have patios that overlook the sea...and when I say overlook, I mean you can almost reach out and touch it. There are also garden-view rooms and second story rooms, all with the same configuration mentioned earlier. The decor is authentic and rustic. There are minor imperfections one might expect from a beach hotel in its 65th year, but to us, these simply add to the charm and authenticity of the experience.

BEACH: If a quiet, private, cresent-shaped beach with minimal motoroized activity with ample palapas (large straw umbrellas to protect you from the sun while lounging in your beach chair) for ALL guests (even when occupancy is high), full beverage and food service and a great staff that keeps your drink cold and full, then this just might become one of your favorites as well.

POOL: The pool is adequate, but most folks don't use it, since the beach is so awesome. UNlike some resorts we've been to, Jamaica Inn doesn't have to have a spectacular pool to make up for a lousy or mediocre beach...the beach is THAT AWESOME. The pictures on the website don't do it justice.

DRINKS: Top shelf stuff...not "no-name" spirits you'll see at some places. The Beach Bar is perfectly located and staffed by some ofthe nicest folks at the Inn...more on them later!

FOOD: The breakfast and lunch menus are very good. The five-course dinner menu, which changes every day, is something we look frward to every evening. Appetizers are served in the main bar area while the house band ("Inner Groove") plays (quietly during the dinner hour, gradually picking up the pace for after-dinner dancing until 11:30pm or so). Dinner is a luxurious experience. The wait staff, many of whom have been working at the Inn for DECADES. Portion size is perfectly balanced so that you won't fill up on any one item, giving you a chance to enjoy all of the wonderful courses you have chosen. The seafood is fantastic and the authentic Jamaican dishes are wonderful (and spicy!). The always have at least one vegetarian entree as well. I will say that the fare is NOT for the unsophisticated palete. If you are a hamburger + mac & cheese type, you won't be pleased.

SPA: The KiYara Spa is different from a lot of spas in that it is all open-air. I can't begin to tell you how relaxing it is to hear the waves crashing right below you as you get a relaxing massage (the deep-tissue hot stone massage is my personal favorite...I got TWO of them on this trip). My wife has been pleased with the facials, pedicures and manicures over the years.

ACTIVITIES: I usually go fishing at least one with Tony Scott (see attached photos) on his boat "Little Children." This time was the best ever...we caught 15 tuna in 3 hours! Tony also makes runs to Dunn's River Falls and snokeling trips. The snorkeling in the immediate area (withing swinning distance) is ok, but if you go out to the reef just offshore, or to other areas within a short boat ride away, it is a lot better. I am a big fan of CROQUET after all of our trips to the Inn. I don'tplay at home, but I play every day while at Jamaica Inn. One ofthe beach bartenders, Rupert, is the "resident pro." He'll teach you the game, and then proceed to beat you every time...I almost got him this time! I've won once in 8 years, but I still love it.

STAFF: This is the MOST SIGNIFICANT point of difference between Jamaica Inn and other hotels we have stayed at. This is also why we keep coming back. These folks are like family to us now. Teddy at the beach bar has been working at the Inn for 53 years, and there are several others (Donald, Desmond, Rupert) over 30 years. We spend a lot of time at the beach bar, so Teddy, Rupert, Georgia and Winston are a huge part of our day, and they make it very special, not just by bringing us drinks but by chatting about everythign under the sun. Kamar, the bar waiter and budding artist (we've purchased several of his works and proudly display them at home); Carter, the aspiring superstar singer, who can balance a tray full of a five-course dinner for two on his head; there are so many staff members that make Jamaica Inn a a special place it is impossible to name them all.

BOTTOM LINE: Jamaica Inn isn't for everyone, but if the descriptions above make you wish you were there, you should go! If you go, I'd be willing to bet that you'll be back!

Room Tip: ROOMS: There are several kinds of rooms that cover most preferences. The premium rooms (The White...

My husband and I chose the Jamaica Inn to celebrate our ten year wedding anniversary. We spent months researching various destinations and resorts to find the perfect spot. We found exactly what we were looking for. It is a timeless and elegant resort with wonderful service. The staff were very hospitable. We felt like we were visiting old friends. The breathtaking views from our verandah never got old. Teddy, Rupert, and Georgia made the beach bar a special place to connect and relax. The food was excellent and served in a five star manner with servers uniformed in bow ties and dress clothes. If you are looking for a great place to relax in magnificent beauty with that special someone then the Jamaica Inn is it.
