“Welcome to the tropics”
Reviewed 2 September 2014

My lovely wife and I flew into to MoBay, arriving shortly before noon, rented a car and headed to Ocho Rios, ultimately destined for Portland parish but not wanting to have to travel another 2 hours the same day. I mention this because should you do the same I would absolutely recommend staying at the Hibiscus Lodge. It's not intended as a place with everything, but for the weary traveler, a comfortable bed on which to take a short nap, AC, a gorgeous private patio overlooking the water, very fine swimming in the lagoon, and a good restaurant under the Almond tree is exactly what you should be looking for.

In fact the breakfast (included) was by far and away the best we had in our 8 day stay all around the island, and the very first picture I took there of the sunset was one of my favorites. Tony the bartender was exceptionally friendly and told us how the hotel was 100 years old. Just a great guy and hopefully a prelude to other friendly people you'll meet on your trip.

I would give this place a max rating, but just didn't stay long enough to justify it. I couldn't have been more pleased however and out of 3 other highly ranked hotels at which I spent a single night, this was my favorite. There was parking, a walk to town in one direction and a walk to a beautiful catholic church which we guiltily enjoyed listening to the singing from afar on a Sunday morning in the other. Short drives to Toscanini for dinner, or to the many Ocho Rios attractions for those interested. And boats could easily be flagged down in the lagoon or arranged should you want to snorkel, fish, or tour the reef.

Finally the price was low relative to what we were paying elsewhere. If I were to go back I'd plan for two nights here in a heartbeat. Thanks to the staff for getting our trip off on the right foot!

Room Tip: Get one with a patio and ocean view if you can

Friendly, helpful staff. Wifi. Decent restaurant, good breakfast included. Decent snorkeling off the "beach" (which is a man-made deck on the sea). Nice pool, tennis courts. Rooms have gorgeous ocean views, very quiet and private. Good value for money.

Room Tip: Ocean side is worth the extra money.

While celebrating a family reunion we chose to stay at this location because of the cost and location. It was at a central location right in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the city and the stay included breakfast. If you are not careful, you can miss the turn into the hotel which when coming in from the city is on the left but no proper signage can be seen from the road until the very last minute. Parking is not the greatest especially when there are multiple events occurring at the same time, but the staff does a pretty good job sorting things out. The hotel has a beautiful garden on the way to the rooms which is well maintained and even though it is small it has a lot of picturesque areas for a wedding/reception. On our last day there were 3 weddings in various locations, but they had no issues accommodating each one, wow! The staff was very friendly, so much so that we felt no way about leaving our gadgets in the rooms or sharing some things with them. The breakfast was very good and the choices available were just right. The rooms were clean and thank God, equipped with air conditioning. Our room was on the bottom floor in the first building, directly across from the pool which was perfect for us since our two young ones didn't have to tackle the high stairs going to the upper level. Other family members stayed upstairs so we were able to check out their rooms and pretty much all the rooms were nice and had great views. The hotel is perched on a cliff overlooking the sea and there are steps leading down to the water where you can swim. It is not a beach but a small sanded balcony to look out on the water our lounge, then small steps to get into the sea water. The water is about 5'5 inches deep and there are some areas that have deep holes so be careful. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back.

This modestly priced gem comes with an outstanding ocean view. Your stay also comes standard with a full Jamaican or American style breakfast. It's close to the Ocho Rios town center and so if you wanted to, you could easily walk there.

Room Tip: I would go for one of the ocean views. You won't regret it!

Second time we have stayed here and found it by chance last year. Took my sister along this year and I wanted her particularly to stay here for the location and views. She loved it too. We all had superb rooms overlooking the ocean, the rooms are immaculate. Pool area great and we especially loved the swimming from the rock area down the steps of the hotel. Breakfast delicious and views from the dining area wonderful. Staff are professional, friendly, so helpful with everything. Will definitely go back again.

Room Tip: Rooms with the sea views are spectacular.
