“Beautiful and friendly”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 August 2014

We spent a week at this Sandals resort for a family wedding. We were very impressed by the cleanliness of the resort and the friendly staff. They really catered to our needs. We were there in August which is low season so maybe that helped along with the fact we were with a huge group for the wedding and they wanted to please us. One thing we didn't like is the resort is divided into two sections: one is the ocean side and the other is where the butler suites are so you have to take a shuttle from side to side crossing a busy street. It wasn't bad though. The shuttle picked you up every 5 minutes and it was a 5 minute drive. We stayed in the butler suites only because they were running a special when we booked. Each building has 4 rooms that share a private pool. It was fun having a butler. They make all your reservations, give you rides on golf carts to the main area, bring you drinks and snacks, etc.... Even though we didn't take advantage of them we did enjoy it. Also lots of restaurants to choose from. This is our 3rd Sandals vacation and it was the friendliest. Antigua was the most beautiful but staff had attitude. Bahamas was just ok all around. Kind of run down.

Room Tip: If you want a butler do the butler suite. If you want to be closer to the ocean do ocean side. The...

My brand new husband and I honeymooned at SGR two weeks ago. We stayed for one week on the butler side of the resort. The resort is clean and beautiful -- flowers and fruit everywhere! The travel to the resort (about an hour and a half) was great -- don't let that scare you! Our bus driver was basically a tour guide and taught us so much about the island as we drove. The rooms at the resort are nice... very clean and comfortable. Our suite included a pool that we shared with three other suites. We didn't see anyone in it the whole week! But we also didn't use it (it was a little bit dirty, some debris, and we prefer the ocean anyway). The food was good (some restaurants definitely better than others -- we loved the French restaurant, Kelly's Dockside, the Manor House, and sushi at Soy! and the breakfast buffet!) The resort is BIG .. not the easiest place to navigate yourself at first, so the jitneys are a big help. I would say to DEFINITELY spring for the butler side -- they answered so many questions that we had, called to check on us throughout the day to see if we needed anything (we weren't demanding guests and never did!), made all of our dinner reservations, and in general were GREAT company that week and made us feel at home. Our butlers were Makiko and Patrick, and I can't say enough good things about them! They left little treats in our room for us to munch on, had a bath drawn one night, had beautiful flower designs on the bed, etc... definitely made us honeymooners feel special! Besides that, they were genuinely kind people with big hearts. We really loved them! They also helped us to get from one side of the resort to the other (so we didn't have to always wait for the bus) (remember, this resort is big!). They were really the best. :)

Excursions: my husband did the deep sea fishing trip, but didn't catch anything and it was pretty expensive. He loves fishing but said he wouldn't do it again. We both did the Dunn's River Falls trip and it was GREAT! Fun to climb the falls (pack water shoes!) and snorkle, and then the trip home is a crazy party!!! Shots, wild dancing, everything. It's a great trip if you love adventures and drinking haha.

The only main downside of our trip is that on the last day, someone stole our camera while we jumped in the pool to cool down. We had it hidden in our bag, and it had all of our honeymoon pictures on it, so that was a very disheartening end to our trip. :( :( I know it can happen anywhere, but it definitely made us think twice.

Besides Patrick and Makiko, we really enjoyed the bartenders Alex and Lopez at the Ochi Pool and Claude at the breakfast buffet (he was so kind!). Danielle at the Ochi Pool was also a SWEETHEART! She even made us bracelets on our last day, so sweet.

This resort is definitely great if you like to be social and meet tons of other honeymooners. 95% of the people we met on our trip were honeymooners who were married the same day we were! Lots of fun parties during your stay.

Room Tip: Stay on the butler side -- we're not "butler people" and felt nervous about it -- but...

Went with my husband and it was an ok vacation. Complimentary Bus transportation to hotel was 1.5 hour ride one way. Only beer served was Red Stripe, not all premium drinks available. Pizza was awesome. Japanese restaurant was not worth the wait. Beach party night was nothing more than a "sales event" for local stuff. The white party (chocolate party) only had about 5 Different things to try and the music was
So loud you couldn't hear talking. Pool at main house was cloudy and the tile stairs and pool decking was cracked and some tiles missing. Poorly maintained. Overall, the beach very small (almost like it was an afterthought) and had seaweed. Our room did not look as nice as the picture showed.

This the first time I visited the sandals resort. The butler village was nice. The rooms really needed to be updated. The money you pay you would expect it to be more modern. Of course it was the honeymoon room, I could tell the bed was nailed together on all four post. Lol it looks tacky. The houseman and housekeepers were on point clean and neat. The butlers were cool just be sure to ask for experienced butlers I got stuck with one that had only been one for 8 months he needed more training/ kinda lazy to me. I hate they only have one club and you have to ride bus across the street to get to it. Bummer it's a short ride but it's discouraging when you have to call the butler wait on the bus in the middle of the night. Oh yeah the butlers get off at 10pm so your sol after that getting back to your room ......have call another bus.....roflmao. Food is good I just don't waste your time going to Valentino's. Horrible.....ooh yeah the bus ride to ochio rios an hour in a beat up bus ...I was livid. Pay the extra money get a private car or helicopter .

My fiancée and I had an amazing experience at Sandals Grande Riviera, Jamaica in July. The room was very clean, the staff at the resort were so friendly and helpful, we even decided to switch hotels half way through our 14 night stay to experience the other restaurants and they helped us move to The Whitehouse Hotel free of charge, no hassle.
We will definitely be visiting Sandals again, can't recommend it enough!

Room Tip: A concierge room is a must! It is definitely worth the extra money.

My husband and I knew we wanted an all-inclusive resort for our honeymoon. After doing a lot of research on the different options, we decided Sandals Grande Riviera was for us. We went with the one bedroom butler villa suite where you share a private pool with 3 other couples. We can't stop raving about our experience to friends and our biggest regret is that we didn't rebook while we were there to get the awesome deal they offered. Our Butlers, Ricardo and Tasha were outstanding! When we go back we will definitely request to have them again. They went above and beyond for us whether it was bringing us something we forgot in our room, or delivering pizza to us at the beach with a personal cooler full of waters and Red Stripe. Beyond that, it was just awesome to get to know some locals.

The resort was big enough that there were always lounge chairs at their main pools or the beach; it never felt crowded anywhere. The food was great, and it was nice there were so many dining options. The must tries are the traditional Caribbean cuisine restaurants, the wood-fired pizza (so good!), Kimonos (like a Benihanas style) and of course, the jerk chicken! (the servers & chef will do sake bombs with you at Kimonos so make sure to request them!)

Thanks again Tasha & Ricardo!

Room Tip: While we really enjoyed the Butler Villas with the private pool because it felt like our personal oa...
