Reviewed 17 August 2012

Hello:
I am a travel agent an recently we stayed at this hotel in Aug. The hotel is not a bad place it just needs some minor improvements such as maybe some new bedding for the beds pillows an such. The staff is very helpful an freindly an the maid service was outstanding! So if you are interested in staying at a 2 star hotel with a great room 206 with beautiful breathtaking views for a budget price then this is the place for you. Do not think of room service because this is not the place again very low key.. But the walk into downtown Ocho with all the local resturants an bars is well worth it! GO explore! The best times are when you least expect things an believe me we did have a good time at this hotel.. Yes I would recommend it to clients but only the second floor rooms..

Room Tip: ROOM 206 or only upstair rooms no street level floors

Dear Guests,

We appreciate that you have taken the time to share your experience with us. We are pleased that you found the "terrace view awesome" and we are sincerely sorry that you experienced maintenance and logistic difficulties during your stay. The Front Desk and most staff members could have let you know that almost all Ocho Rios night life is within walking distance from Silver Seas--the roof top club is within one block... local Jamaican clubs and night life are within 2 blocks on James Avenue...the local casino and the nightlife on the cruise ship pier is a longer walk through town. Silver Seas is very centrally located and there are also many restaurants of most ethnic varieties (Chinese, Jamaican, Indian, Mexican, International, Fast Food)--all within easy walking distance of only 2 or 3 blocks from the hotel. Please know that we shared your comments with the Maintenance Staff and while we don't know the specifics you referenced, the Maintenance Staff has assured us that there will not be cause for future negative comments. We would like to invite you to stay with us in the future so that you will have the opportunity to enjoy the experience that has brought many return visitors back to Silver Seas year after year.

The hotel was made maybe in 1980 and since then they never fix anything!!! Everything is broken and doesn't work, not clean!
The terrace ocean view is awesome but the location of the hotel is away from the night life.

Best things about resort Clean, friendly staff, good food

Best attractions or restaurants nearby Dunns River Falls, ATV excursion, Bob Marley's Nine Mile, Shopping in Ocho Rios

Review: We just returned from a week’s stay at Silver Seas. There were 2 of us, my husband, myself. We stayed in one of the hotel rooms. The room was basic, but kept very clean. The entire staff was friendly, from the front desk to housekeeping to the waiters and bartenders. The grounds were clean as well. The food was good, especially in the a-la-carte restaurants. Don't hesitate to go off the resort. Find a good taxi driver and go! We had a great taxi driver and he took us to an authentic jerk chicken restaurant and "Mothers" where you can enjoy another Jamaican favorite, meat patties. We are still talking about the good time we had. If you go to Dunn's River, bring your own "water shoes"! I would definitely go back to this resort! Enjoy! Although the accommodations are quite basic the whole resort is extremely clean with people working to keep it that way. There is a daily maid service. We noticed that our towels were taken in the morning and returned later in the day after they had been laundered. The only down side for us was no bottle of water was supplied in the hut but the tap water is also quite safe to drink. The worst part was the beds. Each room are setup for 2 (Queens), which were old an antiquate, if a person want to feel good the next day after a day’s travelling , he/she need a comfortable night sleep. The rooms have A/C, a small color TV, but that's where the amenities end. Don't expect to find a coffee maker, a microwave or even an iron. Special mention should go to the cook Barry. David, who I think was the key master for he knew everyone and indicated he has been there the longest. I hope to go back to soon; but before I and my 4 brothers rent, we will check the beds.

Silver Seas Review
My husband and I discovered Silver Seas Hotel in 2004, and it was like a door opening to our dream vacation. When I first saw this hotel with its beautiful architectural detailing and sprawling, ocean-front facade, I was sure it was out of our price range. But we wanted to take a peek inside this grand hotel, and to our surprise, we found out the price was perfectly suited to our budget. For such authentic and romantic-looking hotel, Silver Seas was definitely the best price in Ocho Rios.
Since then, Silver Seas has become our dream getaway. My husband and I now stay at this hotel twice a year for weeks at a time. We have stayed at Silver Seas on every visit to Jamaica because we can't imagine staying anywhere else. The rooms are huge and airy, with spacious balconies, gorgeous ocean views, and many friendly repeat guests from around the world. We've met guests and made friends who have been returning to Silver Seas Hotel for 18 years now, and we are planning a trip back to this hotel with them in the near future.
As with so many wonderful hotels, it's the little details that make it unforgettable. Waking up and looking out the picture windows onto the balcony to see a bird sweeping down to the beautiful blue sea to catch a fish for breakfast, watching a fisherman in his boat on the water, out for the day to provide food for his family, watching the spectacular sunsets and the way the colour of the sea changes from blue to silver. This is nature at its most beautiful.
Silver Seas has brought us many moments that we will always treasure and that no all-inclusive resort could provide. The hotel makes it easy to access the true culture of Jamaica, with delicious food from the in-house restaurant and nearby entertainment, activities and stunning attractions.
The reason we have been staying at this hotel for all these years is simple and yet profound: Silver Seas possesses a unique charm, affordability and a sense of respect for its community. All of the employees are locals, the in-house restaurant serves locally grown and purchased foods and many local venues and events are promoted.
Foreign-owned chain resorts that cater to the frilly and pampered can give you the all-inclusive experience, but seasoned travellers tend to find this bland and commercial. If you are looking for authentic Jamaican flavour and personality, Silver Seas is the place for you.

Sincerely, Donna Denny from Toronto, Canada.

Although the hotel could use a facelift.. it was very welcoming and tranquil. The staff are very helpful and friendly. We seemed to have the whole hotel for ourselves when we were there for the 3 days. The only complaint I have is that the pillows were lumpy and old. Beautiful views from the rooms and pool area. You could definitely imagine what a glorious place this was in it's heyday. We would return there on our next visit.

Room Tip: Ask for an ocean view room.

This hotel is very cosy, old fashioned (in a good way). It is not luxury but good with budget. Hotel is built on the 50s and some parts (surfaces) could need a little maintenance but it still was very cosy and had special kind of athmophere. We liked this hotel the best of all the 6 hotels we stayed on Jamaica. Pricing met quality much better than for example in Negril or MoBay. Rooms are big and nice and all balconies had direct sea view. Personnel nice and kind. Ok breakfast. One night our friends wanted to change for their last night from their crappy hotel to our hotel but the hotel was fully booked. Personnel let them stay free in our room. That was very nice. We did wonder when they said that the hotel was fully booked but we didn't see there that many people... maybe they were at town. If u want snorkling, u could even swim from the boardwalk to the reef. The boardwalk is not in great condition but if you are for example a true Finn,u dont mind that, u just go an swim. All the big boats that take 60 dollars for snorkling trips, came to the reef just outside our window so that was the big snorkling place. In many hotels on Jamaica u have to be very careful with if extra service fees or tax is or is not included to the room price but here was no problem. All in all -we liked and I would stay here again.

Room Tip: All rooms have sea view.

The Silver Seas Hotel is the perfect vacation destination for the no-frills traveler who seeks simplicity, tranquility and accessibility to the finest snorkeling in Jamaica. A rustic, grass-roots hotel located directly on the ocean, just off of Main St, in the heart of Ocho Rios. The views from every room are the finest; the service embodies the Jamaican adage of "no problem". Rooms are very large, amenities very basic. The Silver Seas Hotel is one of the most oldest and historic in the area. Its old world Jamaican charm cleanses and rejuvenates. By day, lounge around the oceanfront pool, by night fall asleep to the rhythmic reggae beat….
