Hermosa Cove - Jamaica's Villa Hotel

We spent 5 days at hermosa in december. The owner's vision for the resort was a boutique hotel which caters to families/couples/groups looking for a private vacation in a beautiful resort with its own beach and personalized care and attention. I would say that he has certainly achieved this.

We stayed in the coconut suite which (i believe) is the only one without a pool. The rest of the villas have pools and i understand they are more like dip pools (approx 4ish feet depth). We never missed a pool.
I felt that the price was very reaonable. the care provided is easily equivalent (maybe better than) to the resorts in ochi where you pay atleast 700 per night.
hermosa has its own private beach. there are 2 sections, one directly in front of the restaurant and the other a private cove. The 2nd one is not officially open. they are building a grill and bar near it but it is not closed off. this beach is really good adn the staff is happy to put chairs out for you and if need be put one of their lifegaurds out there if you plan to take a dip.
[other posts have pics of this cove and so i will not post any]
while the beach is not large it is more than adequate primarily because this resort is limited to 9 villas/families and not everyone descends on the beach at the same time. as a matter of fact we spent a lot of time on the beach and had to share it with 4 other people at the most.
they offer non motorized sports - kayaking/snorkeling . The guides/employees who do this - ryan and carlton are very friendly ,outgoing and are constantly around offering to take you out (but at no point pushy).
The resort has an on site restaurant run by chef conroy. My husband and i are vegetarians and admittedly there isnt a large spread but he made some excellent vegetarian dishes for us. the breakfast options are very good and quite extensive. We opted to cook quite frequently and eat out in the city so we did not get to sample too much of his fare. chef conroy very kindly allowed me to cook in his kitchen a couple of times and showed a lot of enthusiasm for learning from his guests.
the resort is not very far from town but it is not walking distance. It is 1.8 km and even though that is not much in that head/humidity it can feel like a lot. this was a non issue as the resort if very happy to arrange for transport to town and back and if you want even have their licensed drivers stay with you for the whole day or a few hours. (approx 10$ to go into town vs 50$ to stay with you the whole day which is not much). If you decided against keeping the driver/car with you , talk to duke and he will point you in the direction of reliable cabbies you can work with or shops you can go to and call the resort for transport.

The best part was the staff . very friendly and accomodating. We had a lot of interaction with Duke who ended up being our go -to person. he arranged for jet-ski /wave running off site. cabs etc. I cannot thank him enough for making the trip so smooth and comfy.
Wendy at the front desk was always present for information/arrangements.

daily housekeeping is available and the property is spotless. the first thing that strikes you when you walk into your villa or around the property is how clean it is.

We travel a lot and i have been to resorts in mexico/hawaii/thailand etc.. one thing i can emphatically state is that there is no attempt to make you do more than you want to so it adds to your overall bill/stay. I agree with the previous reviews that all i felt was agenuine desire to help make the stay better.

a 10% tip is added automatically to your daily bill so you do not have to worry about tipping everyone in sight for everything you get done. if you strongly feel that the service was so good that you want to add something to the bill you always can. no pressure.

The things which stand out to me - excellent staff. beautiful beach. very private quiet and cozy. everything is arranged for you. you can call for tickets to dolphin cove etc and the staff will arrange that for you.
The staff never billed us for some of the groceries they stocked for us, the coconut water we ordered and on new years eve when they noticed that we did not actually spend much time at the festivities they did nto add that to our bill either. all these go a long way towards making you like the place more and more.

HIGHLY recommended

we will go back again next december.. this time with other family members!!!!

I never tried the spa so cannot comment

cons - could not notice any. it is not an all inclusive which some might not prefer. we knew that of course but the personalized care was what we booked the resort for

mosquitoes - tropical setting so a chance of mosquitoes. they provide repellant in the rooms both sprays and some candles. i did not find this problematic , my husband got bitten more than i did. it was not much of an issue really.

no fitness center. but we were on vacation!!! this was not a problem either

Room Tip: all villas are excellent. while a couple of villas are labeled as ocean front the view is not veyr s...

The staff at Hermosa Cove was outstanding and goes out of their way to meet its guests' needs! I stayed at Hermosa Cove Resort DEC 19 - 21 in the Coconut Suite (One bedroom). I enjoyed every minute of my time their. The villas are beautiful and very clean, and the property/beach is very well maintained. The restaurant on the property called Christopher's was awesome! The chef at Christopher's went above and beyond preparing many traditional Jamaican dishes for me. Many of which I had never tried before, but everything tasted great! The location was very convenient for my planned excursions/tours during the day. There is no fitness center, but you can still get plenty of exercise swimming, kayaking, and walking around. This is the best place to relax and get away from the stresses of life, because it's like having your own private paradise!

Wow! Where to start? Visually stunning, outstanding location. However the best part is the universally excellent staff. What really comes through is the pride of place, attention to detail, the genuine desire to help you enjoy your stay with no undertones of trying to suck money out of your pocket. We so enjoyed meeting everyone who works at Hermosa Cove. It feels like home. Elvis, Conroy, Wendy, Duke, Jermaine...The new beach looks fabulous. We look forward to coming back and visiting 'our tree' :) Thanks Lourence for giving Ralph the house tour and the music!

Room Tip: We loved the Nutmeg House but they all looked fantastic!

we had some quality time off at this resort. Wendy, Duke, Chef Conroy, Carlton the captain..... are the greatest. they also arrange excursions for you so you would be worry-free to get in town center, mountains, to see dolphin or buy local fruits and the most delicious jerk chicken....
be warned tho to bring your mosquito repellent!

My first time to Jamaica. Wanted to do something special for my birthday. Got a great deal on this resort. Loved it!!! First, the day we arrived, we were the only ones at the resort. But we went right before the start of the peak season. The villas are quaint and beautiful. Very clean. Having a private garden and pool were great. The chef at Christopher's went above and beyond for us. My traveling companion was born in Jamaica and she enjoyed having local dishes every day. The manager, Duke Molton, was the absolute best, as were the two guys in charge of the water sports. The beach is small, but clean and beautiful. The water is amazing. They are adding two additional villas and expanding the beach. This resort was more than I could have ever expected and I'm very particular when it comes to traveling and where I stay. The grounds are immaculate. If you want a big resort feel with lots of people, this is not the place for you. But if you want to fall off the face of the earth with someone special and just be in your own private paradise, this is definitely the only place to go in ochios rios. There is not a fitness center, but swimming, walking and kayaking was plenty for me. There is not a spa at the resort, but they can arrange for massage therapist to come in if requested. Already planning my next trip back.

Room Tip: There are no bad villas. Word of warning, the crickets at night are loud, but you're in an isla...

This was our first trip to Jamaica and Ochos Rios. Right from the long private drive to the resort far from the bustling main street, to the resort itself, everything is styled for cosy intimacy in lush, quiet surroundings.

The nights are filled with sweet sounds of crickets, sounding melodious unlike anything I have heard before. The Mango suite villa has well done ethnic interiors with fantastic finish and state of the art equipment and kitchen. Thankfully the the A/C is of split-type so easy controllable by remote instead of central air-conditioning which has to be controlled from a wall unit.

The outdoor gazebo for dining and private pool with jacuzzi jets is perfect for a candle-lit party!! The food is excellent if one chooses to dine by the seaside restaurant and the lighthouse tower is great for panoramic pics!! The staff are very warm and friendly and the kayaking was great!! The transport arrangements were safe, reliable and friendly tour guide.

We would love to visit Hermosa Cove again!

Room Tip: If you want a private pool, then select the Mango suite (suitable for 2 persons only.)

This place is a hidden gem in the Caribbean!
My husband and I stayed here in April of this year and had a such a great experience!!
We stayed in the Mango Suite... A private two story, one bedroom villa with pool - modern, cozy, unbelievable lush and private. When chilling by the pool we were surrounded with gorgeous fruit trees, flowers and the sound of nothing but nature.. Soo serene and peaceful! The grounds / villas are very clean and the staff and owners were soo helpful and very, very pleasant!
I would recommend this oceanfront property to anyone, any age that is looking for an "off the resort - private villa destination". I have done my fare share of traveling; Jamaica is my pearl of the Caribbean and this stay was one of my best vacays yet!
Cheers!!
