“WOW Amazing Holiday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2011

We have just returned from 14 WONDERFUL nights at Sandals Royal Plantation.

This is an intimate resort that caters for people who want to kick back and relax on the beach during the day and have good food, wine, and cocktails in the evening whilst watching some local entertainment.
This resort stands above the usual high standard of Sandals due to the fact that all suites are full butler service with 24hr concierge, Everything you could possibly wish for is catered for by staff that are always smiling and everything is NO Problem from the General Manager Mr Peter Fraser (who makes sure your drink is on it’s way if not already in your hand) down through the butlers and waiters and waitresses, bar staff, gardeners and maids who wish you a good morning everyday. One example of the wonderful service is that the Vodka in our room was switched from a premium brand to a superior brand when the butler realised that I always ordered the superior brand at the bar or dinner. This was a very nice surprise when we came back from the beach on only our second day.
Other surprises to mention just a few were the towel animals, flower petals and candles just to make your evening that little bit more special.
We celebrated our 15th Anniversary whilst at RP and WOW did our butlers make it special with towel animals, flower petals, a bath tub full of bubbles/ more petals before getting ready to go out for a drink on the terrace and then being escorted back to our suite for an intimate dinner for two surrounded by candles, flowers, chilled drinks all served course by course by the butler. Dinner consisted of a seafood risotto that was served perfectly cooked (one of the best risotto’s I’ve ever had) followed by Surf n Turf for my partner and Rack of Lamb for me to be finished off by the wonderful chocolate Lava puds from Le Papillion……..Yum Yum.
Monday night is Managers cocktail party followed by BBQ on the terrace with some amazing local dancers/fire eaters and singers. A must is trying Barry’s Coffeetini or Jacktini, these can also be tried out on Friday evening when the Martini bar comes out to play for Jamaica night, which is a must for all foodies who wish to try some local delicacy’s including Red Pea Soup, Curried Goat and jerk Pork and Chicken.

A grateful thanks must go out to all the staff for making our stay at RP a wonderfully relaxing time that we enjoyed wholeheartedly. Just a few names to mention are:
Jermaine and Shelley – our amazing butlers (thanks guys u r the best)
Clayton and the boys - Very knowledgeable water sports guys who didn’t laugh when I fell off the paddle board on more than one occasion!!!!!!!!!!!
Collette and her team at the terrace restaurant
Gladstone and Hakim – Bar tenders who serve your drink in their own innovative style.

So to summarise

Does this place have the best rooms in the world - no they are great but not the best. Does this place have the best beaches in the world again no but they are very good (especially when you realise the cordoned areas are due to the fact that turtles have laid eggs there)
But what RP does have is the whole package from that friendly smile to the anticipated drink or snack delivered by your butler whilst you are getting ready for dinner.

In our opinion a 5 star resort that we cannot wait to return too

This was our third time returning to RP. We've made a kind of tradition out of going there to celebrate my wife's birthday, and in the past, we've always had a stellar experience. This last visit was certainly no exception. We consider ourselves to be fairly low-impact travelers...we are primarily looking for a beautiful place to unwind from the stresses of everyday life in the city - in that regard it is difficult to top RP. The staff goes so far out of their way to make sure that any desire you might have is met. It is the sweet, small touches like rose petals floating in the hot tub, lit candles to greet you when you return to your room after dinner, and handwritten birthday wishes from the staff which help to make the RP experience what it is.

Each year we've returned, it seems like a truly monumental task for the staff to create a vacation experience which is on par with what we've had in years past...but somehow they all manage to rise to the occasion...the level of service can really not be overstated. This year the names that truly stand out are Fiona & Kenton - they both did an awesome job of fielding the requests we had...we really aren't "butler" types...but they were both there on a moment's notice to lend a hand when we had a question or a request. Collette - is a beautiful person...thank you for everything. She had mangoes and coffee waiting for my wife, who is an early riser, waiting every morning to greet her. Mr. Anderson and also Gladstone - excellent as always, and they both always go the extra mile (especially Mr. Anderson for the unforgettable birthday meal). Thanks also to Marvette, Taniqua, Cedella, O'Leary, Adrian, Andre the piano man, Desmond and Kenneth - they were all great. Thanks also to Seaford and Duane for working around the clock to keep the property looking so gorgeous...and thanks also for the coconuts, sour sop, flower bouquet, etc. They never fail to make us smile and add that extra something that is impossible to describe unless you are there - not an easy feat when expectations are high for a much needed vacation. Thank you also to Peter ---- for being such an attentive property manager and for arranging a special lunch for us of grilled pink snapper caught only hours earlier - it was truly delicious and my wife has added it to her top 10 list of many years of travel.

One thing that I feel needs to be stated - it did seem like on this past visit that the property was adopting more of a "Sandals" brand rather than a stand alone Royal Plantation individuality. This was evident in the prevalence of the Sandals logo around the property and we were no longer able to buy Royal Plantation souvenirs (shirts, mugs, hats) with the lovely RP peacock logo. Even the notepads in the room were generic Sandals. This may sound really petty, but the thing that ultimately attracted us to return to RP 3 times is that it felt unique - almost as if friend had invited you to their special villa for a week one could not duplicate anywhere else. It is our sincere hope that RP does not get homogenized into the Sandals chain. RP has always meant a special level of service to us - a place with its own flavor that is somewhat off the beaten path. It would be a big mistake to become just another Sandals property located in Ocho Rios.

We want to sincerely thank Peter and the amazing staff for yet another special week. Please maintain the Royal Plantation that we know and love and wait all year to be welcomed "home".

N.B. I am not usually so effusive - but this really is a special place.

We were moved to the Royal Plantation when Sandals Negril was flooded (as were probably 70% of the guests when we stayed there). I forgot to write the review when we got home, like I intended to do- but I'll write what I remember now!

We were unsure of what to expect with Royal Plantation because we knew there were some distinct differences from Negril. In the end, it turned out to be wonderful. The rooms were smaller and older than some of the other resorts- and that took some getting used to.

Our butlers were phenomenal. A lot of the staff had been moved from other resorts (like Negril) to accomodate all the guests, so there were some miscommunications throughout the week because it was only their first or second week at Royal Plantation- but they were always very pleasant and attentive. They really tried to meet all of our requests and to make up for it if something did happen in error.

it was a quiet resort that was perfect for a honeymoon. We actually didn't get in the pool at all. It was kind of disappointing because it was so small- but the beach was beautiful and the beach butler was awesome- so we spent all of our time on the beach. Sometimes there was only 1-2 other couples on the beach, so it felt very private and relaxing.

There were exchange privileges with the Sandals next door- so we went over there for scuba diving and one night for dinner- and just to check out the resort. It was extremely overwhelming- and the food was not nearly as good. The french restaurant at Royal Plantation was AMAZING. One night, I wasn't feeling like having anything on the menu- and I asked the waiter if I could do just like a surf-n-turf. He went and talked to the chef- and next thing I knew, steak and lobster were on their way out. With it being much smaller, people are able to meet these requests, they know your name, and they genuinely care about your trip. The service was not nearly this great at the Sandals next door when we visited.

I'm unsure what changes have been made since Royal Plantation became a Sandals (this change happened just weeks before we arrived). If it's still very similar to the resort we stayed at, then I would recommend it to anyone. it was more of a boutique resort, but they truly made you feel like royalty.

We just returned from celebrating our anniversary at Sandals Royal Plantation and can't say enough about the property and the staff. Everyone has a smile and is there to assist you. Each couple is given a phone to contact their butlers at any time. There are two butlers per room. We were given almost daily surprises when coming back to our room--a beautiful bubble bath for two decorated with fragrant flowers and surrounded by candlelight or our bed adorned with flowers, a happy anniversary cake and chilled champagne! Whatever you want to eat or drink is always available and can be enjoyed in their gourmet or casual restaurants, bars or in your room. All food and liquior is top shelf!
We enjoyed our own private cabana on the beach and called on our phone for anything we needed if a beach butler didn't happen to be nearby. There is no end to the number of staff members we could mention that went above and beyond every day to make sure our stay was perfect--Fiona who greeted us, Collette at breakfast, Barry the Maitre 'D, Kevin and Richard our butlers, Mikhail in the watersports dept., Ashley the Food and Beverage Manager, Francine the assistant manager and most of all the hotel manager Peter Fraser. He ensured that everything worked flawlessly for the guests. We cannot wait to return!

My wife and I just returned from our second trip to Royal Plantation (RP) in eight weeks. We went in April of this year and liked it so much we returned in June.

The food quality is outstanding and not just for an all inclusive. We had dinner with the general manager (Peter Frasier) and his passion for cuisine that we experienced during our stays was confirmed during our conversation. Buffets are rare (and of high quality) and always an option not mandatory. This is NOT an all inclusive where quantity of food substitutes for quality.

The service quality is impeccable. The butlers (ours were Richard and Rochester) are phenomenal! Our first rule for visiting RP is to call your butler first. Rochester and Richard really made our trip.

The high level of service shown by the butlers permeates the entire staff. From Adrian and Andre (the beach butlers); Gladstone the bartender; Altinea who runs the excursions; Ashley the food and beverage manager and throughout the resort the service level is amazing.

RP is far superior to other all inclusives and even the other Sandals properties nearby. It differentiates itself based on quality and service and if you leave the property and visit the other resorts you will notice the difference immediately. If you want a resort with swim-up bars, massive quantities of cheap food served in a large trough with "Hot Hot Hot" playing on a continuous loop, this is NOT the resort for you. If you want a true dining experience with the highest level of service in a small boutique setting you will love the Royal Plantation. This is a very rare and unique resort which is why we have chosen it as our primary vacation destination!

Wow is all I can say when it comes to Royal Plantation!! Spending a week with my husband at this spectacular hotel was amazing. It was just so peaceful and relaxing. We loved going to the 5 Star Diamond European Spa everyday to get facials and massages done. If you are a lover of golf this is also a place for you. We would play golf at the Sandals Golf and Country Club every morning as there were complimentary green fees. The course was beautiful and the sunny days just made it perfect to be outside golfing. Our favorite place to eat was Le Papillion which is the French cuisine at the resort. The food was so scrumptious. We also had dinner a few times at the near by Sandals Ocho Rios resort which has 11 venues you can chose from to eat at. This was a week my husband and I needed just to relax and unwind from all the stress we have had in our lives the past couple of months. We will be back soon!

Having read most of the reviews our travel agent kind of convinced us to stay here. Honestly, this was the best ever choice made when it comes to a relaxed, private beach holiday!

From the point of arrival and spending a few minutes in the Sandals lounge to the point of reaching the airport again everything was just PERFECT.
Upon arrival to the hacienda one of our Butlers, Derron greeted us and took care of the first night's in-room dinner. He has also made a quick tour of the property the following morning and made sure that we feel comfortable and relaxed. Together with the other butler Orayne they made our vacation memorable! From small things like a tube of aloe vera gel when my missus was burnt to decorating our room for our anniversary... they just gave us exceptional service.

The beach butlers, Adrian and Andre are doing their best to keep you relaxed and hydrated through the day. Great job guys, you made us smile a lot!

The restaurants on site are great, we preferred the Terrace Bar for its relaxed atmosphere over Le Papillion, which is more elegant. There was one thing great : you can order ANY restaurant's course irrelevant where you are sitting. Even in the pub we could order the Papillion's magnificent Chocolate Pudding and got served within 10 minutes. Pub Fare is usual British comfort food. Nothing fancy but honestly good fish & chips and a lovely bread & butter pudding.
You can always go to the next property (for 3 more restaurants) which is the Sandals Grande Ocho Rios but we turned our back on it after 20 minutes as it was noisy and without any charm. Nevertheless, it is worth a glimpse why you chose the Plantation over that :)

Peter Fraser, the General Manager always smiles, has a good word or two to say and helps out where he can. Seemingly the whole staff behaves like a big jolly family, making the atmosphere like nothing we have ever seen.

We hope to come back one day - hopefully soon - and spend more time here. If you opt for a bit of luxury, privacy with exceptional service and honest smiles, THIS IS the place to go for!
