“Room with a view”
Reviewed 14 September 2012

Recently return from a 3day stay at this location. We had a balcony view of the ocean. The location of this place was convenient. You are steps away from shopping and dining. The place was clean and the staff was professional. The beach location is fantastic. For the price of the room, it was worth the stay. Had a front seat view of the cruise ship.

Room Tip: Beach view is great

Stayed twice in 2011, once with friends and another with family (9 year old)

Great location, very clean, no entertainment, basic breakfast, felt safe.

Would stay again if I was on a budget, located on the beach and near to attractions.

Obviously this hotel has a clientele, mostly local or Jamaicans abroad who come home to visit family. They have a very nice visitor's policy and you just have to alert security who will call you to confirm the visitor upon arrival and you can entertain your guests at the bar or restaurant.

Please do not go here with 5-star expectations because you will be disappointed. The staff is okay, not overly friendly, the rooms are a bit dated but large and clean and there is a safe in the bathroom. There is no bell hop but if you ask they will find someone to help you to your room with your bags and a tip is definitely in order as that's not their job. The food is average but there are many restaurants in the surrounding areas where you can purchase food.

My one problem was that they don't enforce a policy that when food is purchased outside guests should not be allowed to eat it in their restaurant. People would walk in with their bags of food, eat and walk away and the restaurant staff has to clean up after them.

The location is great, beach is okay but with seaweed in spots.

Overall great value for the money and I would stay here again.

Room Tip: The oceanview rooms with the balcony are very nice. If you can't handle stairs be sure to reque...

We've spent one night at Rooms Ocho Rios, it was fine but not great.
We paid $84,- and all we've got was a room with no view. It was clean and the bed was good.
The lifeguard adviced us a trip to the falls and snorkeling, we left from the beach behind the hotel and got a great guide.
The snorkeling was amazing!!! I will recommend that to everyone!

Stayed in rooms from the 25th July- 9th August.

Fantastic holiday none of what was thanks to Rooms, minus perhaps the location.

Firstly as this is what has caused as the most upset £35,000 jamaican dollars and £90 english pound was stolen from our room by the cleaners.
Hands up i did not use the safe due to hearing stories how the safes were not safe, we had choose to lock our belonginings in our case, one day of which we forgot when we went down for lunch (granted my mistake) however the way the case was delt with was discusting.
I had security staff suggesting to me that it could perhaps be my best friend who i travelled with as she had visited me in my room , we then had 2 stern faced security women search through all our belongings inc dirty underwear making us feel as if we were the criminals. Management who could barely look me in the face to offer an apology for the "alleged theft". She informed me she would leave me a note in my room the next day to let me know when the police had arrived, no note left and a week and a half later on my departure after constant chasing up at reception , the police convinently had still not arrived and supposibly i will be hearing from their insurance team. A call i will definatly not be waiting on as they had no evidence of inside investigation papers ect and i doubt any follow up was done.

The conversion of us dollars to jamaican dollars changed daily .(i guess depending on what they felt like , thats what it seemed)

6 dollars for a small cocktail around the hotel bar seemed very over priced to me, perhaps though that was after half my spending money had been stolen.

One price was given for a meal to a jamaican local much cheaper then what we had to pay for a much smaller portion.

Breakfast yes it does say continental so fair enough but one dry pastry , one glass of fresh juice and a couple of pieces of fruit served to you by ladies who do not even wish to give you a smile let a lone a good morning is hardly worth rushing out of bed for.

The customer service is non existient I watched a waitress totally ignore a man who was trying to order lunch as she was watching the olympics. (cringe worthy service).

The same cleaners who stole of us would give us terrible looks when walking past, and if asked to come back later as we were still in our room would simply kiss their teeth at us , not sure what happened to "no problem what time?" ( you have just stolen of us after all!) NIGHT MARE!

The rooms were nice although bit outdated, and the location is fantastic, However if you like to be made to feel welcome and looked after do not stay here.

Room Tip: Definatly go for a sea view, unless you want a view of a car park.

Spent 7 nights in a "balcony" room on the ground floor in Feb. The place is not top notch but calling it a dump is not really accurate either. I read the comments about the staff being rude etc and this is probably wrong they just are mind numbingly incompetant. The breakfast is bread and coffee, with a knackered industrial toaster to not toast the bread. So what. The aircon works but the hot water is erratic. The place needs a lick of paint. All the comments I have read about the hotel are really about Jamica, the tourist companies and Touts. It's a non-all inclusive hotel in JAMAICA, if you expect to be feted like a king then this is not for you. Bed in the centre of town it is. All other bets are off.

I have no complaints. Location was great, in the heart of Ocho Rios. Everything you needed was on your doorstep; banks, shops, bars, restaurants, western union, markets, supermarkets. You are literally on the beach. They give you beach towels to use and also beach loungers. The beach is cleaned every morning and the seaweed is cleared from the sea. The beach is a few metres away from the hotel's pool and bar. The hotel pool is very clean and not too deep. There are 2 life guards who are very friendly and who pay close attention to everyone in the pool.

Staff were very friendly except from one member who decided to ignore us for our entire 2 week stay.

The continental breakfast was exactly continental. Toast, pastries, fruit, cereal, tea, coffee, hot and cold milk and orange juice. You can get egg for 3 USD or ackee and saltfish etc for 6 USD for those who want a little more than continental.

The rooms were a good size with 2 double beds. Good air conditioning. Bathroom was a reasonable size but did not have an air vent. So it got quite steamy sometimes. Small wardrobe was in the bathroom. I didn't use it. The room had an iron, hair dryer, televison, coffee maker, tea bags. Cleaners changed the sheets every other day and swept and mopped our floors everyday and even tidyed our room lining up all our shoes etc. Towels were changed daily.

Our check in was fine. We were given our cards. However our room keys would stop working if you have then near coins or a mobile phone so we had to get them replaced quite often. Cleaners would often leave your door open for a while but nothing was ever missing from us. when u leave the hotel you need to give your room number so you can check in and out. Don't say it too loud as you never know who may be listening.

We went away for 4 nights and came back to a clean and tidy room. Nothing had gone missing.

Would stay again. Great value for money.
