Enjoyed being so close to the public beach and meeting the vendors and watermen. Stayed two nights as part of a challenging bicycle tour, the Jamaica Reggae Ride.

Felt really, really safe. Staff went out of their way to serve. I would give ten stars, if possible, when I count how many times I and I demanded service, and got it quite quick.

On arrival, having biked from MoBay, was tired. Even though many guests arrived at the same time (our 20 plus a bus), not only were the keys distributed promptly, but the doorman even showed I to my room and prepared the closet. Doorman was a model of efficiency.

Were the keys programmed properly for a multi-night stay? Not exactly, but that is easily corrected by the 24 hour staff at this smallish property. On a scale of 1 to 10, a 0.001 issue.

I and I planned to ride to Port Antonio after our first night, and wanted an early breakfast. Other properties should take notice: How much goodwill can be gained by setting out the baked items at 7 instead of 7:30? Tremendous amount, I am quite sure. And they hit that again, when I and I had to prepare an early bus after our second day.

Odd, but I liked the TV for a simple reason: the channels switched quick with front panel controls, so I could check weather quickly. Heard the Internet was slow, but I was off the air, on purpose.

Dryer was $5 a load, but worked. As with other properties in Jamaica, the guest laundry is also the house laundry, but the job got done. Had to go behind the "staff only" door to get towels, but who really cares, in the end analysis.

The bosswoman of the bike tour needed some photocopies, in the view of the I and I guests, and the front desk people let that happen, allowing I to come into their back office to get the job done.

The most important point of this property is that it is one of the few not yet all-inclusive. The gluttony is appalling elsewhere, with folks needing to pass by a row of overweight people, all with a fork in their hand, with a big piece of meat.

Perfect location!! Central to absolutely everything and right on a beautiful beach. Rooms need updating and the damp/mould issues in all the rooms should be addressed.however the rooms are fairly clean. Overall it's a good bargain in the best possible location.

We stayed at Rooms for 7 nights last week, second floor with balcony ocean view, very clean but as previous reviews said, it needs some upgrades especially the bathroom, if you don't like to take a bath it's OK the shower is very good. We went at Rooms in Negril 2 years ago and the rooms are much better. We heard cats fights almost every night, nothing the hotel can't do I guess. The beach is calm and warm, but it's not the 7 miles beach in Negril of course. The location is perfect, directly on the beach and close to everything. Nice dinner we had without taking a taxi is Passage to India, John Crow, Jerk Centre, Reggae Ally and just across the street Mongoose, very good food. Walk from right side of the resort and you'll find it all. For 30 or 40 dollars taxi, Evita's and Toscanini are good for a nice dinner out. Captain Kirk from the hotel gives good advice and you can trust him, he is a taxi driver but you can find good ones just at the gate of Rooms and ask for Dave he is nice and not so expensive. Lots to do in Ocho Rios, we had fun at Dunn's River falls, Mystic Mountain and you have to try the Segway adventure at Prospect, expensive but worth it. The hotel pool is very clean and very very warm, we liked it a lot. We enjoyed our stay at Rooms, highly recommended if you are not an all inclusive resort traveller.

Room Tip: Balcony with ocean view

Just back from a 7 day 6 night stay at Rooms.

I read many of the reviews for this place before we left, and they set expectations a bit higher than what I experienced.

Pros:
1) The sleeping area was decent, bed was more comfortable than most beds in local hotels in China.

2) Air con was working.

3) Price was generally less than all inclusive hotels in the area

4) Security is vigilant. Especially at night.

5) Free continental breakfast included every day.

6) Right on the beach, with chaise loungers available for use, and decent pool.

7) In the middle of town, lots going on, lots to see.

Cons

1) Was expecting the hotel staff to be laid back and full of Jamaican Charm... what we got: Grumpy women who talk to you like you should be grateful to graced by their presence, and security guards on a power trip.

2) Bathroom always looked dirty

3) Room doesn't get cleaned properly until you leave a tip

4) Shower ran hot and cold every time I was in it - only acceptable because it's hot in Jamaica, and were were spending a lot of time in the ocean

5) Continental breakfast: they bring you a little dish of fruit, pastry, and a cup of juice. They also have toast (which you have to cycle 2-3 times in their toaster to toast) There were many times we had to ask more than once for our food. Things are done at this place when the staff feel good and ready to do it.

6) Maintenance staff gives you attitude when they have to come up and fix the toilet that keeps running after you flush it, and overflows.

7) Sent someone to look at our room phone literally right as we are checking out early, despite many previous requests over our stay.

Bottom line, I won't be going back. If you want a budget trip, you are better off finding an apartment to rent for the week. That's what we would do if we could plan this trip again.

Room Tip: Go for a room with a balcony. The rooms without them do not have windows that open.

Great hotel directly on the beach. You will not be nervous about this property as I found it very secure even though you are so close to everything. Sure anytime you leave the hotel you have to go through the "gaunlet" of locals waiting for you outside the main gate that want to "help" you get to where you are going, but once you get to know your way around a polite no thanks we are just going for a walk will do. But beware sometimes you have to be more firm with the persistant locals. I highly recommend Mom's restaurant in town for the curried goat or the oxtail dinner for a local and inexpensive lunch or dinner. This is just a little hole in the wall place and is not where a lot of people would go into but great staff and good food and they will take canadian money. The blue lagoon tourist attraction was great but again there are locals there when you get there that want to "guide" you up for about ten dollars each but again you can pay canadian dollars and for the most part it is there way of making a buck and worth it. Way more to do there than just walk up the falls like Dunn's River because they have ropes to swing into the pools of the river and high cliffs to jump off of. At the hotel a burger and fries was only $5 bucks. You should bring a soft sided cooler bag to keep your drinks cold in your room as they do not have fridges but they do have big ice machines. Ask for room 1100 to 1125 if you want a room with a patio on the main floor directly opening to the beach.

Our third trip to Jamaica. We had a great time at Rooms and are returning next year. The locals are waiting to walk you to the restaurants and expect a tip. We had Akeim Christie show us around town. He was a friendly trustworthy young man. This trip was half the price of most hotels. It was clean and on a nice beach. We ate lunch at Juicy Pattie for $1.50 US every day. We ate at many local restaurants for dinner and it wasn't too expensive. Scotchies was the best and about $25. US funds for 2 people. Hotel staff were friendly, breakfast was small but OK. We loved Rooms and plan on going every year!

Room Tip: Ask for Akeim Christie to show you around.
