“Good location, basic rooms”
Reviewed 15 June 2014

Definatly, value for money. the rooms are basic but clean. the location is perfect, close to the beach, supermarkets, bars and restarunts. The owner is super nice and helpful, and even gave us a lift a few times with hes car.

Only come here if you are into partying. If you like to tour things and make the most of your day, this hostel is not for you. The music blasts and blares until about 2am (and asking the people behind the desk to turn it down gets you nowhere), the windows seem to amplify instead of shut out the sound, the walls are made of something that resembles crepe paper, and there's no point in paying extra for the private room because you can hear every word from the dorms anyway. If you happen to stay there while they are renovating, expect to hear hammering until 11pm or so. At least that drowns out the music somewhat. It's a shame, too. The hostel is otherwise clean and in a good location, but I can't function on zero sleep.

Like the reggae hostel in Kingston, the atmosphere was laidback and the staff always had this big smile on their face. Rooms are clean, size is big enough. Location is really good, you can go everywhere by foot and the beach is right there. The music was quite loud, can be annoying when you don't like the type of music.. Reggaehostel knows how to be a pretty good hostel!

Stayed here 5 nights early April. Room was extremely clean and tastefully decorated. Free coffee every morning. Wifi and computer for surfing available although it's true that the Wi-Fi only works near the office.

Drawbacks included no hot water initially and noise carrying between rooms although these issues were resolved.

Formal and informal activities were constant and as a solo traveler it was nice to have the choice to join in with the group stuff if I desired. The staff made this place really like home and I definitely plan to return! Shout outs to Karen, Andre, and Chris.

This is a great hostel with a good location. The rooms are cheap with high standard and all you need. Wi-Fi is free. It is close to grocery stores, restaurants, shops and the beach. The owner recommended us the Blue Hole which was awesome, and he also took us to see the glistening water in Falmouth. Great guy!

I stayed at Reggae Hostel in Ocho Rios with some friends from Feb 20-25, 2014. It was exactly the sort of stress-free, laid-back getaway I wanted. The price was cheap ($60 for room with two beds) and the room had everything I needed - shower, refrigerator, and air conditioning and TV that I never even turned on. It's a three-minute walk from the beach ($2 for beach entry; $3 if cruise ships are in town) and also very close to two small grocery stores and more restaurants than I can count.

Most of the rooftop is a flat deck with a small bar. Every night, one of the guests working as a bartender served drinks. Some cocktails were free and beer was cheap. There's a level of friendliness in a hostel that you don't get in a hotel or all-inclusive; everyone introduces himself or herself and we were soon going to lunch, dinner, swimming, and an expedition to Dunns' River Falls with friendly people we met there.

I don't think this would be the best spot for families with small children, but for open-minded people; couples, single travelers, or adult groups who enjoy meeting interesting people from around the world, Reggae Hostel can be a base for a fun vacation. I would go back.

Wifi is free but I couldn't pick it up from my room. People tend to congregate outdoors near the office for faster access to wifi.
