Just got back from CSA yesterday, my wife and I along with 2 other couples had the best vacation we've ever been on. The food, staff, weather and accomondations were outstanding.
Big heads up to,
Natasha from the Palms
Marvin and Judy from the beach bar
Lincoln from the pool bar
Dwight from the martini bar
Alysea from the patois
These people made our vacation. They went above and beyond to make our stay a memorable one.
After reading some reviews before we left I was a little concerned, but after being there anybody leaving a negative review should give there head a shake.
Thanks to all the staff again for such a great holiday.

My husband and I honeymooned at Couples Swept Away after being told by a travel agent that they had a very high client return rate. I can see why...it was the perfect blend of luxury and Jamaican culture. If you prefer the European type luxury, don't go here. If you want to be pampered and enjoy top of the line food, entertainment and beautiful beaches and still feel like you are in Jamaica, this is your place!

We really enjoyed our stay at Couples Swept Away this past December. We were in Negril for the Reggae Marathon, which Couples was a sponsor of. Resort was superb. Food was great. Everything was awesome. Only draw back was the nightlight, there was not much excitement there, though that's easily remedied by grabbing a taxi.

Room Tip: Corner suites have the best veranda. Garden suites do suffer from a little road noise.

Let me start by saying that this was our first trip to Jamaica and despite the niggles I am about to elaborate on, we did thoroughly enjoy our three weeks in the sun, on a beautiful beach in such a lush country.

However, it was often difficult to relax and just listen to the sound of the waves lapping the shore because of the various beach vendors. Now don’t get me wrong, some of the steel band combos and the older guys with their guitars are actually very entertaining and we would often ask that they give us a tune. But they were on the go from morning ‘til night, explaining that our beach was the only one worth bothering with because the others had too many kids.

The entertainers were o.k. though as they’d just wander by waiting for someone to show interest but there’s nothing worse than dropping off to sleep and then being rudely awoken by the shrill tones of, ‘Hi sweetie, necklaces, anklets and bracelets – I’m Trisha when you’re ready,’ or the very aggressive, ‘Cigarettes, nice Cuban cigaaars, rolling tobacco.’ Both of these vendors would wander freely among the beach beds and I think took great delight in waking as many people as they could.

However, the really obnoxious sight was watching the guys supposedly selling jet ski and parasailing trips, knowing full well that they were actually peddling something a lot more lucrative, i.e. drugs. ‘Elvis’ and ‘Bob the Baker’ seemed to have complete immunity from the security guards who would allow them to wander carte blanche throughout the guests and turned a blind eye to their dealings. Not a good image for the resort and it really needs addressing. If all of the vendors and entertainers were told they should walk alongside the water’s edge and approach only those guests who called them, then that might make for a more peaceful beach experience.

So, my first gripe so far as the hotel is concerned was on the occasion when we had to wait over an hour to be seated at the buffet restaurant. This would not have been so bad had my husband not counted 23 empty tables just waiting to be set. He eventually asked to see the manager and after much to-ing and fro-ing when we were first advised that no-one was available, Cleopatra arrived. She was most apologetic, assured us it wouldn’t happen again and only in Jamaica could such an incident have culminated in a group hug!

From my observations, I think a lot of the problems arise because there don’t appear to be any specific managers on duty. In all other hotels/resorts, if there’s a problem, you can immediately seek out the manager to put it right and s/he is instantly recognizable by their uniform. At CSA you are shown to a table, asked what you want to drink and then left to your own devices. On numerous occasions, my husband waited for ten or fifteen minutes and then went to get the drinks himself. Similarly, at breakfast you are shown to your table, asked if you want tea or coffee and then either have to remind someone (often a couple of times) or, as happened for almost the whole time we were there, you’d eventually get your tea but no milk. It’s not rocket science: a pot of tea comes with a jug of milk – and not a small glass of milk, which is impossible to pour and which happened on a few occasions.

It seemed as if the person showing you to the table relayed the request to another server who then totally ignored the instruction and went off elsewhere. As I say, had it been evident who the managers were (if indeed they exist) then representations could have been made at the time.

The food is very repetitive and the menus do not change, all the restaurants having a choice of three main courses. For a resort of its size the choice at the buffet restaurant is not acceptable and covers a very small area only. Breakfast service is a joke with a choice of ‘man with a pan’ to make an egg or ‘woman with a pan’ to make a pancake. Why they don’t have hot-plates to enable more than one item to be cooked at a time is beyond me. By the time you’ve waited in the queue for an egg, the remainder of your meal is cold or you’ve simply gone off the idea.

The only meal I was really looking forward to was the Christmas Eve gala dinner, for which specially printed menus had been pushed through our doors and it sounded delicious. However, we were told to ignore the menus as ‘everything had gone.’ Similarly, at the New Year’s Eve dinner I ordered surf and turf but received only shrimps. I had to ask for the steak, which arrived some time later – all very odd.

There is a somewhat disjointed air to the place, which I understand is because the resort has doubled its size and so there are most definitely two halves, with the main restaurants at each end. The food in Feathers was enjoyable but the place itself is dismal – always very cold and with a claustrophobic feel to it; definitely not a fine dining experience.

What the place sadly lacks though is a central area with large comfy sofas, soft lighting, quiet music and the opportunity to have conversations with fellow guests without shouting over loud music. The piano bar is a fiasco unless you’re fresh out of kindergarten and want to sit in a circle singing with teacher.

This is a place that relies very heavily on its repeat guests and granted (from the photographic display in the lobby) the majority return year in, year out. Whilst that may be seen as a wonderful endorsement, I can’t help but think that it may have been many years since a lot of them have experienced other countries/resorts/hotels and they have become too accepting of the situation. I imagine if we did return next year, we would be able to recite the entire menus prior to our arrival, which really is a bit grim.

Our room was very nice – third floor, partial sea view, beautifully cleaned every day and all very comfortable, albeit the bathroom needs updating. Sadly though it was let down by the fact that it was hard to enjoy the view because the seating comprised a small wicker chair or a plastic settee, the painted surround to which was filthy dirty and mildewed.

It overlooked the Jacuzzi, which was noisy in itself and so any guests going in there in the early hours of the morning (as they quite often did after a few drinks!) could be heard shouting to each other. After disturbing everyone in the area, they would then wander off leaving it bubbling away for hours. I think an isolator switch should perhaps be utilized to ensure that the Jacuzzi is only available until an acceptable hour.

Apologies if this all sounds a bit negative but quite frankly CSA will learn nothing from those repeat guests who have been nodding like donkeys for years and praising the place to the hilt when they perhaps have nothing to compare it with.

PS

Stayed beginning of Dec 2013. First time to Jamaica, and staying at a Couples resort is the way to go. Stress free at the airport with the Couples lounge and transport to the resort. Once at the resort, they have clipboards ready for each couple that just got off the bus, so check in was easy, and were taken to room quickly.
Room was great, we just didn't like the open ceiling bathroom much. But other than that, room was great with the large patio, full bar, turndown service, and towel art too. We were in a GVS room at the very back corner by the road and workers area. It did get loud early some mornings, so if ur a light sleeper, you'll want to think about that.
All the restaurants had yummy food, and many times we ordered more than needed, and some nights we had a couple dinners to try out the different entrees :) We had patties at the Cabana grill restaurant way too many times. Don't miss out on the pasta bar, sounds lame but the all the different ways u can make it is great. We really liked the martini bar as well, and none of the bars were light on the liquor. Piano bar was fun, playing games, guess that tune, etc..
Not having to tip is a major plus for me. It would be a pain to carry money with u when you're in your swimsuits, and service was great even without tipping. If u enjoy the music players on the beach though, I would recommend bringing money to tip them.
The beach was soft and water was warm. We loved it. There are vendors walking along the water line selling their goods and smokes, but they respond fine with a nice no thank you. If ur up by the loungers a bit back from the water line, they do not approach u, just some of the music players. The security guards are present and I saw them a couple times keeping an eye out on peoples interactions with the vendors, making sure they didnt get pushy.
Catamaran and snorkeling were fun trips. We also did an outside excursion with the One Love Bus bar crawl. We recommend this. Fun to get out of the resort and see some of the locals bars and restaurants along the cliffs, and felt safe being with a large group. We also went to YS falls and Pelican bar for a day. YS falls was beautiful and our guide took both our cameras and took so many pictures of our two couples for over an hour. He got a well deserved tip!
We will definately be going back to Jamaica. The people in Jamaica are so nice and kind, and not having a language barrier makes things really easy. But im the type that likes to try a new place, so we may try another Couples resort next, though we really liked Swept Away.

Room Tip: Very back corner GVS building could get quite loud in the AM

We had two weeks at swept away immediately befor Christmas, it was fabulous. having been to San Souci three times we knew pretty much what to expect , it did not dissapoint.

Couples has its own distinctive style with fun high on the list of priorities. We had one of the basic rooms, which was well appointed and comfortable, although quite near the road it was quiet at night and you could only hear the road noise durring the day on the porch. It had a lovely view across the gardens which made up for it.

The restaurants were good and had sufficient variety to keep you happy. Feathers and Lemon Grass were both very good but so were the regular ones patois and plantation. We had lots of fun in the cocktail bar, the piano bar and nightclub.

Swept away is probably due a makeover, Feathers could do with a re-style but it is good none-the-less.

The beach is terrific and the whole site very attractive. The entertainment at night is spot on. I would have liked more going on around the pool bar during the day, San Souci makes a feature of this and we missed it. The road cuts the sports complex off a bit, but thats just geography.

All in all Swept away is great place to holiday. The scenary is stunning and the weather is perfect. The best bit is the people who go, its a really good mix of great people who share a language and a sense of how to enjoy themselves and have fun. We met some great folk and had a lovely time.

Room Tip: The rooms up near the road do come with some road noise.

A beautiful location right on the 7 mile beach with sand as fine and soft as flour, clean sea water and stunning sunsets.
Accommodation was clean, spacious and very pleasant with air conditioning and room fans; the bathroom was a little jaded and could do with updating.
A good selection of restaurants to choose from with reasonable quality food; the wine selection was disappointing, with only a Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon to choose from in any restaurant, both of which were poor.
Cocktail bars on the beach were fabulous and the cocktails most definitely worth sampling.
The staff were warm, friendly and extremely helpful; in particular Andre from the entertainment team who assisted in us having a really lovely and fun holiday.
Water-sports were included however the spa (which looked lovely) was extremely expensive.
I would certainly recommend and definitely return.
