This was our first time at an all inclusive and we really enjoyed our stay. We were here for a wedding and it was perfect. The couple were well cared for and their wishes met. They will have great memories.
The beach is phenomenal, with clear warm water and fine sand. Put up a flag and they come and take your drink order. The food was excellent with the exception of the Thai, it was awful. Service through out the resort was very good but you get the feeling it was forced. Run Into an employee on the edge of the property alone and the smiles are gone and a feeling of resentment becomes obvious.
The scuba diving is done professionally and in a safe manner, but I would bring my own gear if I had a do over. The fins I used did not fit and left me with horrible blisters. The dives themselves were average at best, Fish Fantasy reef the best.

The rooms were the biggest disappointment. For the cost, we thought they were a bit small and plain. Not really enough closet space for a weeks stay. The resort was in off season and should have upgraded us to a better room. Also, they were fumigating the room below us and we could smell the chemicals for two days.

Mosquitos were not an issue until after a couple of days of rain. Deet if you go out at night after a rain.

Overall we enjoyed our stay but from a price point it was a bit expensive. You also miss out on the local flavor by staying at a resort. We understand Jamaica has safety issues and did not wish to leave the property. We prefer out aka cart vacations in Belize and GC.

I am a frequesnt Isalnd hopper and this was a unique vacation above any other Iv e had.
THE RESORT /ROOM
This is not a concrete jungle like Secrets or touristy like Sandals. All which are nice.. this is a tropical oasis and a rainforest like experience!
very much above my expectations the accommodation were comfortable and authentic . BEAUTIFUL rustic yet CLEAN which I love. The bed was very comfortable!
I recommend an upper level Atrium room , we had 1218 .. it was just far enough from the road and restaurants to be quiet at night yet convenient to the beach/buffet during the day . Second level puts you in the tree tops and above the ground bugs that may creep in as the doors are wooden slats but may not have screens. AC worked wonderfully though. At night the only noise you heard where the (very loud) tree frogs..which I didn’t mind at all. EVERYONE gets lost the first night as every building looked the same and the trails wandered through the jungle . Stay calm and take a stroll to explore. I found a “landmark palm tree” haha .Take bug spray for the evenings
WORK OUT FACILITIES
Awesome used the tred mill and racquet ball and i do not work out on vacation but it was too nice to pass up trying out. nice treat to get veggie and fruit smoothies all over the resort . I did not visit the spa this trip ( too short)
POOL/BEACH
If you are a pool person this isn’t the resort for you. while there are three, a lap pool a pool bar pool and a main pool they are small. The main pool is tranquil and tropical and i did use it once but the pool bar was kind of unattractive and crowded by a group of young louder people and kinda dingy as the pool bar is closed off form the main pool but a wall so you have to get out and back in and the folks weren’t “getting out” much at all. ..they were respectful but we didn’t go down there at all. Except to play bocci which was good fun! The main part of the resort was so much nicer we didnt miss the pool bar, there are 2 beach bars up there ..Also my Husband who is all about the pools appreciated the FABULOUS beach so much so that he didn’t miss it and normally he does not go in Ocean water at all, but it was so well maintained warm and clear that he felt as though he was in a giant perfect pool all week. So you may surprise yourself. This beach is just perfect. I never had trouble finding a chair or float either and got the thatched huts most days for shade.
I’ve been to 7 mile beach twice now and it’s the best I’ve seen in comparison to places Iv e been . it’s a natural beach and it is beautiful. It is a beach that vendors can walk on and will try to sell you stuff ( bracelets carving etc) and OTHER STUFF but they are all very nice and pleasant and you make friends with then by day two. They are not rude at all. People stop to play music on the beach and you can tip them $1 or 2 and they love it. The guards keep them moving and monitor all interactions.
RESTAURANTS
\Best resort food Ive had, i ate heathier on vaca than at home! But so fresh and delicious. They are not all over you like at sandals or secrets though so if you want to be pampered maybe youll miss that , but they are very nice and let you be to enjoy yourself
Make reservations as soon as you get there for FEATHERS and LEMONGRASS. I went to lemongrass twice ( tai) it was fabulous and the atmosphere is perfect to watch the show or sit on the deck that overlooks the pool/beach and the martini bar is close by two. Feathers is the only air conditioned restaurant and it was great as well . STEAK and Crème Brule! Men remember to bring pants for Feathers , dress code is enforced. Sea grapes was our favorite.. the vegetarian fish tacos veggie burger and sweet potato chips were so fresh and the sushi was amazing . There was a bonfire on Wednesday night and a Friday night beach party that was over the top. It was like going to a wedding right on the beach with dinner dancing a show and the best variety of top notch food . Presentation of everything was elegant all week long. The Aura lounge was fun for winding down at night, piano bar and dancing to DJ as well.
Men remember to bring pants for Feathers
MISC
Resort includes glass bottom boat snorkle hobby cats kayaking and a cataqmaran cruise scuba etc all of which other places charge more for

Airtran does not let you print boarding passes for international travel so leave time to wait in the line BWO wasn’t bad but Montego bay took over an hour to wait in the line . So long that we didnt get to visit CLUB MOBAY in the airport and we did pay $35 a person for that benefit. Oh well we did get fast tracked through customs though so that was a perk for it.

Room Tip: Atrium was nice choose upper floors to get off the ground and safer you can leave your doors open all night if you wanted Ocean front were great though too .. just request center of property to avoid road noise some garden verandahs have

We just returned from our 12th trip to Swept Away, obviously we love this place, but keep wishing it would get better everytime we go!! What we love about this resort is the tropical feel of the entire property, it really is just beautiful! The beach is gorgeous, and the folks selling things there never bothered us at all, just a simple no thank you, and they move on!! The rooms are just right, clean, cold air conditioning, the huge verandas to sit out on with ceiling fans, and the new bathrooms are wonderful, we loved them!! The one big factor here is there is only air conditioning in one restaurant, and if the other places to eat were right on or near the water that would make a world of difference, having been here 12 times we are really confused this problem has not been addressed yet, we have brought it up many times!! At the very least more fans are needed for air flow, there is so much foliage around you really do not get a natural breeze from the water. It really makes it very uncomfortable to enjoy eating being so hot The food here is really good! First day we got there they had the best onion rings, and rest of the trip they served Burger King type ones, bummer!! We did pre check in way in advance, but for the 3rd year in a row, nothing was stocked at all in our room. We come back here, because overall, the resort is laid back, the grounds are beautiful, the food and drinks terrific, the Beach is about the best we have ever been to, the rooms are clean and beds are very comfy! The people working at the resort are what you make it, be friendly they appreciate that and you will get a warm response We plan on returning with friends next year, let's hope the restaurants are a bit cooler then, we really would appreciate that!!!

Just got back from a week at Couples Swept Away, loved it! Went with husband and another couple, will definitely recommend to others. Resort is about an hour from airport in Montego Bay but shuttle ride is pretty interesting glimpse of Jamaica outside the tourist areas. Food was well above expectations for an all inclusive. Lots of variety (fish tacos at beach side café are banggin!) Thai restaurant also really good! They offer a shuttle to a cliff/ocean front restaurant called Pushcart, it was great, stunning views, perfect for watching sunsets. Water sport guys are a wealth of information, TALK TO THEM! Rooms were really nice, we stayed in the Garden Suites, the least expensive but loved them, they are set back a bit from the beach but nestled in really lush gardens, we didn't see any need to upgrade to more expensive rooms. Porches off rooms were soooooo nice, loved sitting out in the mornings to enjoy our room delivered coffee and fresh fruit. One piece of advise...bring your bug spray, that isn't a knock on the resort, just a necessity for that part of the world. We had to buy a bottle of spray from resort and it was 15 bucks, steep but invaluable! Spa was one of my favorite parts, went back for 2 massages, steam room with twinkling "night lit sky" a really nice touch. Great work out facilities too. Overall a wonderful experience.

Room Tip: Basic rooms are great, we didn't see a need to upgrade...ocean front had more foot traffic and less privacy so its about what's important to you...

We are completing our 3rd extended stay at CSA, and we are likely to return. We first stayed at CSA in 2007. Our daughter came on our recommendation for her honeymoon four years ago and had a nice time.

Why This Is A Favorite

We absolutely love the beautiful white beach and our accommodations have always been nice. This is not a high rise on a carefully engineered Mexican beach. Rather, it is a series of buildings set in a wonderfully maintained natural setting.

The rooms are comfortable. Some are more Jamaican rustic than others. I believe all are air conditioned. Our room has a private balcony facing the ocean. Others have hammocks and less privacy. Although we have stayed in one of the more modern areas of the property, I really don't know of a bad room on the property.

This is an all inclusive resort catering to couples only. That eliminates many of the games and noise associated with resorts catering to singles and children. This is a really nice place to get away. Knowing the cost up front is nice.

The beach has never been crowded, but we tend to travel in the off season. We can generally grab a catamaran when ever we wish and run the beach. There is a sports complex with an Olympic lap pool, tennis courts, and racquetball courts. The waterfront includes a variety of watercraft, swimming, and snorkeling/diving excursions.

There are two pools on the main resort property, one with a poolside bar. There are two bars along the beach. There are a number of other bars on the property. The food possibilities are diverse. Nightlife possibilities are likewise diverse.

Our Concerns

This property is a real study in contrasts. On one hand there is an exquisite beach that is hand raked daily. On the other hand there are badly deteriorating tile roofs in dire need of repair. The computer business center was repainted one evening, but the pool area appears to be neglected. We do see signs of renovation occurring.

There are exceptional individuals working at CSA, contrasted by many who are just going through the motions. We have really enjoyed a number of the hotel employees we have met. We have not had one totally negative experience. Again, the lack of consistency is apparent.

Our booking was completed months in advance. It took repeated calls to figure out why we weren't receiving follow up confirmation emails. At check in it was clear the booking was still not correct. Online we were asked if there was a special occasion or if we were repeat guests. There was, and we were. Yet, this was missed.

Unlike previous visits, this one has been just a bit off. Check in was not as warm. Our keys weren't coded, but this resolved fairly quickly. Our mini fridge requests for water and diet soda were missed. A broken shower control was fixed promptly.

Reservations for a number of activities are handled through a concierge desk. One young lady serving as a concierge would be better suited as an attendance clerk at your child's middle school. The lack of warmth or hospitality is in stark contrast to many of the other hotel staff, including others working at this desk.

As in the past we experienced a warm welcoming from the members of the hotel staff. As in the past, we did receive exceptional service from a number of the bartenders and wait staff. Marvin and Dwight, although very different, both provided excellent service. We looked forward to visiting with Tracey Ann while she prepared omelets for us each morning.

Unlike the past, it was a bit of hit or miss. It isn't clear if this is due to a lack of training, excessive turnover, or factors unknown to us. Through our efforts to engage we were able to engage with a number the staff. It just seemed to be a bit more effort this time.

The two more upscale restaurants, Feathers and Lemongrass, remain exceptional. Fresh red snapper at the beachside restaurant, the Seagrape, continues to be a lunchtime favorite. Nights listening to Ultimate Chocolate at his piano while he delivers a fun night to his diverse guests will always be a favorite.

A manager's reception and dinner are available to returning guests. The previous general manager went table to table to seek input from the guests. That didn't occur this time and seemed like a lost opportunity.

On previous visits we always looked forward to returning as soon as possible. This time we aren't so sure. We have viewed CSA as a home away from home. The staff has always gone out of its way to make our stay most pleasant.

If we were first time visitors, we possibly wouldn't have noticed the chinks in the armor. The young honeymooners didn't seem to notice. Most of the guests seem to be having a wonderful stay, although we did hear more complaints this time. This is in sharp contrast to the past.

When reading reviews of others, I generally discount reviews of glowing perfection or extreme negativity. My hope is this review will be helpful to others in making their selection of a Negril hotel or resort.

CSA is an old friend. We will consider returning, but may consider other options in Negril.

Stayed: June 2014
