“July 4th getaway”
Reviewed 11 July 2014

My boyfriend and I planned a 5 night trip to Jamaica, and we spent 3 nights at Couples Swept Away in Negril. All in all, we were amazed by the helpful staff, the endless amenities and activities available, and by the yummy cuisine at the restaurants.

Pros:
- Lemongrass Restaurant: This thai restaurant was one of our favorite places to eat at the resort. Call a day or two early to reserve a spot as reservations fill up quickly.
- Service: The staff was always helpful and friendly, and they always served us with a smile on their face.
- Activities: highly recommend taking the Sunset Catamaran cruise. The staff on the boat was entertaining and we got a chance to see a lot of Negril from the seaside. Water activities like paddle boarding, water skiing, and kayaking were readily available in the mornings, and we really enjoyed being able to easily grab the equipment and head out on the water.
- Facilities/entertainment: While the resort was not a typical modern high rise hotel, CSA was quite large and was in front of one of the most beautiful beaches we had ever seen. The resort has a beachy/nature vibe which was perfect for the low key vibe of Negril. There were several bar huts along the beach where you always had an opportunity to grab a drink. One of the nights, the hotel hosted a movie screening on the beach which was really fun.

Cons:
- This is definitely a couples resort, so I would not recommend staying here without your significant other as most activities are catered towards couples
- Towels: For some reason beach towels were quite the scarcity. Be sure to bring towels from your room if you plan on swimming as the outdoor huts never had any towels left to give to people on the beach.
- While dinner was always an amazing meal, breakfast and lunch often had limited choices and limited hours in the main buffet areas. Be sure to check hours/locations for morning/afternoon.
- Aura nightclub: The nightclub was quite the disappointment as it was empty and the resort did not encourage people to go party there.

Overall, this was probably one of the best options in Negril and we would definitely recommend this hotel with the few caveats above.

Room Tip: Call in early and request a room on the 2nd or 3rd floors so that you have a good view

We just got back from an 8 day stay at CSA. We have to say this resort is truly amazing! Way better than anything we could have imagined. We did not experience one unfriendly staff member. Every single employee was very friendly and personable. Anything we needed was “no problem man, anything you want” Very very accommodating. We were able to eat at every restaurant more than once. All food was very delicious to say the least. The gardens are absolutely beautiful and well kept; luscious tropical vegetation. The beach is groomed every morning at sunrise. The whole place is very clean and well kept.

We had the premier beachfront suite. Room had a breath taking view of the ocean, located in the middle of the resort. Our room was clean and fridge was stocked every day. However the last couple days of our trip the cleaning lady was lacking.

The beach venders took a little bit to get used to, but a simple no thank you sends them on their way. They do have slightly better deals on stuff then the gift shops.

We got married here and the staff took very good care of us on our wedding day. Thank you again Priscilla, Martin and Marlon. Each of you helped make our day special and memorable.
I would not hesitate to recommend this resort to anyone, you cannot go wrong. If you are the type of person who finds something wrong with everything, then I am sure you find something wrong here too. But if you are somewhat easy going and looking for a romantic, care free, accommodating, fun, beautiful resort/atmosphere this is the place for you.

Thank you Couple Swept Away for a truly amazing vacation. We will be back!

Room Tip: spend a little extra money for a better room. Ask for 2nd floor. You can make room and location requ...

Delta was on time connectiong us through Atlanta arriving 1130am Jamaica time. (roll those watches back one hour if from the east coast) Couples had us on the way before I could drink my second free beer. An hour and half later we were welcomed home w/a cool towel and a stem of bubbly. Room was not ready so off to the grill for some tender moist jerk chicken (xtra hot sause pls) This resort is big and very spread out so expect alot of walking. Room still not ready (first bump) and its after 3pm so front desk staff proves not to be very user friendly. Finally in room closest to the ROAD (another bump) so back to the front desk and for $50 more per night we can be moved to ocean view but only for the last tree nights of our stay. I knew resort was very busy so I was happy to get that. Years ago the road rooms were very loud but are now sound proofed so not so bad. We did the "secret rendezvous so Couples picked this one for us for the first time. This tends to be the most expensive one of the four in Jamaica. All are good and include golf. Each is unique in its own way. This one has the best beach and we walked many miles of it early Sunday morning. Just tell the locals no-thank you and keep waking. (Sorry I do not shake hands) Back to the food and drink and I can say simply enjoy. Saturday is Lobster nite at all of the places to eat so come early and feast. The move to the new room was (bump) poorly done w/us sitting in our old room for 2 and 1/2 hours before going to the front desk and being told it was ready but to get in line w/arriving guest and wait our turn. I stormed out and one of the bell-men came over and asked what was wrong. He made it right and carried our luggage to the new room on the third floor after getting the key cards. As we walk into the room we see water from the AC unit all over the floor so we figured room had been ready for a good while and no one bothered to call us as they sd they would (bump). So we left and headed to an activity and he had the water cleaned and AC "fixed" (It would end up being fixed three times-bump)
On a brighter note the visiting tennis pro (Chis from NC) should be invited back and he gave 14 of us a classic lesson Friday morning. This is the most well done tennis resort on the island by far and my Wife raved about the yoga. Do not miss the snorkling trip. We saw so many fish and our guide was really informative and entertaining. Also the catamaran sailing cruise was great fun and well done. So we would come back here in a new york minute even with the bumps.

Room Tip: stay away from the Road

Went to Couples Swept Away, Negril last week. We had a fabulous time and thought the place was beautiful.

I have previously stayed at 2 AIs in Playa Del Carmen in Mexico. This was a better experience in my opinion. They room was adequate, beach was better, food and drink were better.

We stayed in a second floor Garden Veranda suite near the road and next to the front office. We could hear the road noise, but the road isn't very busy and we were never bothered by any noise. The room is large, bed is roomy and comfortable. The room is probably one of the older rooms and seemed a little dated, however the room was fine. There is a large porch that provided an outdoor alternative space. The open ceiling plan for the bathroom is one drawback, and made us grateful for the outdoor alternate space on the porch.

The property is shaped in a rectangle. The grounds are dense with lush flowering vegetation and palm trees. It made for many great photo opportunities. Our room was one of the farthest from the beach and it was less than 2 minutes to walk to the beach.

The beachfront of the property covers a large area, about a 5 minute walk end to end. The beachfront has a contiguous stretch of palm trees, palapas, and awnings. If you want shade you can find it anytime of day. However, they play the towel game at CSA, to win a palapa you must to be on the beach by 6 am.

The beach is fabulous, water is warm, and wave action is minimal. The resort provides floating chair cushions that one can lie upon and float in the gentle sea. A couple of times we spotted a ray swimming a long the beach among the floating tourists – no worries, no problem mon.

The people who worked at the resort were very nice. They are for the most part young - 18 y.o. and up. I have heard some people complain about slow service – but when working in 90 degree heat and 90% humidity people move slow. Yes - the service could be better, yes I wanted banana bread everyday and it did not always come, and for that reason Jamaicans will never put a mon on the moon. Hey, they got a bobsled team.

After a while I realized the beach is a commercial zone. You are offered things to buy constantly, from the same cast of characters. There is a zone of control in front of the hotel property. Vendors do not come among the chairs to sells goods; they stay on the half of beach near the water. You must go out to them to view goods.

Once you leave the property you will encounter other people who will approach you to sell everything under the sun. It’s a different crowd. Don’t be impolite and ignore them, just say no. If you can’t say no then I suggest the knick knack shack just off the property on the left. It’s a place to buy scarves, cigarettes, pipes, etc. We did not venture down the beach much as we saw no need.

Have fun!

I enjoyed our stay immensely. My husband and I were there for our friends wedding, which was superb from beginning to end.

The 7-mile beach is spectacular; there's absolutely nothing like the calm and beauty of the Caribbean Sea.

I have so many good things to say about the resort. I absolutely adored the staff. Within minutes of checking in to our room Orion, the resort nurse, called to make sure my husband received his medical supplies and was okay administering his treatment. That gesture meant the world to us. The entire entertainment staff, was wonderful, but specifically Tracey-Ann who taught me how to make Ackee and Saltfish; which was divine. Shanice helped me bead two stunning bracelets, and Huit, and Lawrence are tie dye geniuses! I loved the multitude of activities that were available to us daily, hat making, cooking classes, beading, and the fitness options were all terrific.

The food was absolutely top notch. Coming from a certified foodie who is a New Yorker that's 5-star all the way. I had the pleasure of dining at the Sea Grapes Café, The Palms, Patois, the Cabana Grill, and Lemon Grass. The vegetarian options were absolutely delicious and we loved the play on hummus, sushi, and fish tacos. You guys should definitely publish a cook book with all the wonderful recipes. I'm still salivating about the Tom Kla soup I had a Lemon Grass.

I could go on and on. If you want to get married in Negril, this is definitely the place to do it. Be sure to encourage your guests to stay a few days extra, they'll love you even more for.

We're already in the planning stages of our next trip to Negril and Couples Swept Away is number one on our list.

Room Tip: Definitely choose a verandah suite, it was so nice to have the outdoor space to chill out after our...

All-inclusive says it all. From flight, to shuttle, to food, to drinks...all your needs are met.
The staff is highly accommodating and courteous. The food is always available and delicious. The beach is rated one of the best in the world. The atmosphere is more peaceful and tranquil than energetic nightlife. The property is well maintained and clean. You will be spoiled.

Room Tip: The atrium suites have a hammock on the balcony. Highly recommended.
