There is only one word to describe this hotel...perfect. Stunning beaches, amazing restaurants and beautiful surroundings. It may be a little more expensive than surrounding hotels but it's worth every penny. There is so much attention to detail, you will feel spoilt from the moment you arrive at the airport. Staff are wonderful- you will never be bored of the food or the amazing selection of cocktails. I got engaged here and i couldn't have asked for more amazing surroundings. Perfect for couples.

This hotel is excellent value for money and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. However, it is important to ensure you avoid the few rooms which are above the kitchens for The Palms restaurant. They are extremely noisy and have very small balconies. We were originally assigned one of these rooms (4101 I think) and paid $10 a night to upgrade to an Atrium room instead (1117). It didn't have the TV and minibar, but was a much nicer room to spend our holiday in.

The food exceeded our expections and the only disappointment was that the menu for Feathers (the best of the 4 restaurants) did not change at all during our 2 week stay.

The hotel has been very well designed with lots of vegetation which does and excellent job of obscuring the buildings. Whilst service was sometimes a bit 'hit and miss', the staff were all very friendly.

The water activities suited us perfectly. The only thing I missed was jetskis, which I have always wanted to try out, but didn't fancy renting from an operator outside the hotel. We also enjoyed the Negril Hills golf course and would recommend a buggy unless the weather is cool.

While you are in Jamaica, if you can only visit one attraction and are interested in birds, then I thoroughly recommended Rocklands Bird Feeding Station. Feeding a hummingbird while it sat on my finger rates as one of the best experiences of my life.

If you want to tailormake any trips of your own, I can recommend the following tourist taxi operators:

Colman Brown of Transjam tours - [--]; [--]

Joel of Joel's reliable taxi service - [--] & [--].

We had 2 tailormade trips:

1. Dunns River Falls, Greenwood Great House and Rocklands with Colman
2. Black River safari and YS Falls with Joel.

Both were great days out.

Their beach is the longest on the 7 mile beach! No problem getting beach chairs. As far as activites they have a huge complex across the street with everything. This includes Tennis courts with clinics, racketball courts, gym, studio with yoga, pilates, spinning, etc. We stayed for 2 weeks and spent most of our day playing tennis and doing all the studio activities. The last 3 days we took a vacation from our vacation and did some relaxing and snorkling. The last day we took the free catamaran ride. You can do anything you want there, we chose to stay active so we wouldn't gain any weight from the great food.

We arrived after a long journey on the 29/12 and spent our 1st few days laying in the sun and recharching our batteries. I cannot think of a more suitable place to do this than CSA. By 10.00 am beach bar staff were asking if we wanted cold drinks..this was followed by cooling chilled wipes. The beach was the best we have ever been on. Dont be put off by comments regarding the security guards on the beach. They are there but keep their profile down, and are there at the end of the day to stop those wanders going into the resort. We didnt find any of the vendors on the beach pushy, if you said no they accepted it and we happy just to chat and be friendly. My only disspointment was there was no fish for snorkelling due to the reef which meant you had to do the trip if you wanted to see any. Not a hardship though. Hardship isnt a word you associate with CSA.
The staff at CSA were great. Omar the trainee barman at the main bar became a firm favourite and he does a great Omar special. I sincerely hope he is signed off his training soon. Also Jaqueline in the restaurant was always lovely. Thank you to both of them for making our evenings wonderful. Food is good, as you would expect and I was amazed when I read a review that someone had gone down to breakfast and had little choice.. Did they go to the wrong hotel? Always lots to choose from, whatever, your preference. Warning though if you dont like bones, avoid the chicken stews or curried goat... lovely but rather boney.

Niasha, you need to learn a new 'ice breaker' from I have arthritis.. lovely girl but think we heard it 5 times within our 1st 24 hrs.

I think the only point of feedback is that if someone needs to communicate with a guest then leave a message for them to contact a manager. We were over the moon when we arrived to be issued with gift vouchers for the Spa $350 and gift shop £150 when we checked in. After a fews days of pouring over the spa menu of services we decided what we wanted. We returned to our room on day 6 to find a letter stating that these were issued to us in error. No apology but more importantly, CSA if you make a mistake your customers I am sure would appreciate the personal touch of actually being told face to face or have the chance to discuss it. So if you get given these when you arrive either spend them straight away or double check its not a mistake!
All in all a great place. We would definately go back. Thank you to everyone at CSA who made our stay a wonderful romantic memory.

I have been to Jamaica 6 times. First time at Couples. We stayed 4 nights at Tensing Pen (on the cliffs, most romantic wonderful place) then Couples for 3. We were disappointed in the room. Our AC actually spit out ice chunks and our toliet needed to be flushed 3 times with each restroom break. I requested not being by the road but of course when we arrived that is where we were, no worries though we did not spend enough time in the room. Rude check in staff. I tried to also call out from the room and twice the operator said "call back too busy now" . The beach was amazing and really that is why we came. On the 3rd day there we got fruit kabobs, snow cones, cool towels, wonderful cocktails served to us. That was great. We hoped for more seafood but the food was ok. We ventured outside of the resort to 3 dives restaurant and Sweet Spice. If you like lobster I highly recommend both of these.

We were very disappointed at how aggresive the beach vendors were this year as compared to other visits. They were so much more aggresive. Everyone wanted money. My girlfriend was actually corned in a store with a very aggresive man. We were very scared. We were offered rides to the "falls" about 100 times. My husband and I were even offered trips by the security guard at Couples. Very disappointed by this. Out in the ocean floating around all of a sudden comes jet ski's offering trips to the falls. Geeze cant even get away from it in the ocean. It really turned us off. I am not opposed to some bantering but this trip was so DIFFERENT. Way too aggresive. I have never been so bothered and acutally turned off from Jamica. I realize the economy is bad but I cannot give money to every person that asks. If you want quiet, peaceful relaxation go somewhere else. Get away from the beach try Tensing Pen. Beach is beautiful at Couples but would not stay again.

My husband and I have been dedicated Sandals followers for the past 15 years. We have been to almost all of them. After getting our free week (finally), we decided to try something different and chose Swept Away due to it being couples only and on the 7 mile beach in Negril. We were not disappointed. However, coming from Sandals, you have to be ready for the change in approach to rooms furnishings - definitely more basic. That said however, we had plenty of room for what we brought and loved the view of the ocean from our verandah beachfront suite. Anytime the doors to the deck were open we could hear the ocean. Just wonderful! We also liked the way they use the flags on the beach to notify the bar servers that you needed something to drink. They were always very responding. In between times they brought around cool rags and fruit skewers.

We arrived the afternoon of NYE. At first I was disappointed to learn that our reserved room type - beachfront verandah suite - was not available and that we were being moved into a great house room for our first night. However, after some discussion they gave us a nice resort credit in return for our inconvenience and the room we were moved into still had a partial view of the ocean. The only bad thing was that we could not unpack until the next day when we finally got moved into our reserved room type. The great house was very convenient to the FREE internet in the business center (which is not available at Sandals) and Patois restaurant which was WONDERFUL for breakfast. Its also close to new swim-up pool bar.

The whole week was wonderful - the beachfront bars were wonderful with top-shelf liquor and Miller LIte (my favorite!). We were there over NYE and walking up the 7 mile beach with the bonfires and the outdoor bands in background was great - definitely something to remember. Swept Away had a very elegant buffet that evening with lobster and anything else you could want.

In summary, after 15 years of Sandals - including 4 weeks of those years at Sandals Negril - we will be back to Couples Swept Away. We loved it.

Couples Swept Away 12/2 to 12/9/09 Review

This was our 2nd trip to CSA, 4th to Couples. Our 1st CSA trip was 12/07 and we loved it, but this time we were disappointed.

When we arrived at the Couples lounge in the airport the person tagging the bags said he was not a Couples employee and indicated for a tip he’d “watch” our bags. This same thing is happening at another resort airport lounge and the resorts really need this to stop. We had a wait in the lounge and then were taken outside and there was some confusion about who was going where with what luggage. Finally we were on our way, but then we hit traffic and also construction (really dusty bumpy for awhile). We made one break stop at a horrible place (it was near where a new swim with dolphins place is being built). The toilets in the restroom were not even plumbed, just sitting on concrete. Almost everyone on the bus was also approached to buy drugs. Our driver was not friendly and was the slowest one we’ve ever had in Jamaica.

We arrived at CSA and were greeted and women were instructed to go into the check in area while men found the luggage. While we were dealing with paper work we were given cool face cloths and champagne. When we got our room assignment we noticed we’d been put on the 2nd floor. We had originally had our TA request a 2nd floor room when we booked last February, but then due to a knee injury we’d had them send a new request for 1st floor. When we asked about this the deck clerks were very uncooperative! They said our TA had requested 2nd floor and that’s what we got. We tried to explain there was a newer request, but they were not interested. Told us there were no 1st floor rooms available then in our room category and that if we really wanted 1st floor to contact them the next day to move. We asked to speak to a supervisor and were told none were available. Not a great way to start our stay. We also had other problems during our stay due to moving rooms.

The next day we did get moved downstairs, but only after trips to the lobby and phone calls. We were put in a corner room (3104) and for the Garden Verandah suites the rooms in the middle have less road noise and AC noise. Our room did have an excellent view if you don’t mind noise.

Toilet care items supplied in the room were conditioning shampoo, bath gel, and body lotion. On the 1st day we got a shower cap. On our last full day we got a tube of aloe vera gel that was ½ empty. I know this was an included item in 07 and wonder if we should have gotten one everyday??

Sheets—Night one our sheets were fine. The bottom sheet was not fitted, but it covered the entire mattress. Night two we had a small bottom sheet that did not cover the mattress and the poor excuse of a mattress pad did not either. The next morning we discussed this with the front desk and requested that the maid use 2 sheets if they were small so that we would not be lying on a bare mattress. We were pleased that we somehow got larger bottom sheets put on our bed the rest of our stay, but why don’t they just do this on all the beds? Why do they have non king sheets at all?
I know food is very subjective, but in 2007 we thought the food was great. This time we were very disappointed.

Breakfast—All rooms can order continental breakfast, but don’t count on getting when you ask for it. We ordered it 7 days and only 2 of the 7 did it come on time and 1 day it did not come at all. Some days they came to the back door with it, but a few times they placed it on the patio and knocked on that door. We were told the 1st day to put the tray by the back door when we were done. One day while my husband went for a morning walk I enjoyed part of the breakfast on the patio and then left part to enjoy after my shower. But after my shower I discovered the tray had been removed from the patio. I did call about this and got it replaced, but they should have a system for removing trays that would avoid this happening. We did try the main breakfast some mornings and noticed that most of the pastries were not labeled, the scrambled eggs were not good and the hash browns were not hot. We did enjoy the papaya.

Lunch--The grill food in 07 was great for lunch, loved the French Fries. This time we kept on trying different things, but none of it was good. The blackened snapper had no “blackened” taste. The pulled pork sandwich hardly had any pork at all on it; it was mainly a large bun. The French fries are now string fries and not golden and thick like they use to be. One day we tried Seagrapes, but never got the fish tacos we ordered. If you try to eat there make sure your server notes the time on your order slip, our server did not put a time on ours, so our order stayed at the bottom and never got filled. This left the Palms for lunch and it was good some days, but a long walk from the larger pool on the other end of the property. We did have grilled Snapper for lunch at the Palms one day and it was our favorite meal of the week.

Dinner—All were OK, but none wowed us like they did in 07. The service at Feathers seemed rushed this year and the temperature was a little on the warm side also.

Bars—They do have more top shelf at all of their bars then Sandals, but Sandals wines are definitely better. We are not wine snobs, but the Couples wines are horrible. In 07 we were very impressed with how well they kept the bars stocked; if they ran out of anything it was replaced right away. This year no. We really thought it was strange when they ran out of tapped beer one day.

In room mini bar—No top shelf here. Carib beer, a red and white wine, and brand X liquor. It also was stocked with sodas, water, and juices.

Daytime activities—This was not great in 07, but managed to get worse. They have a printed schedule, but don’t do most of the activities listed on it. A few times we walked to the south beach area for an activity only to have no one from entertainment show up.

Beach Towels—There is a towel hut on the beach near the grill. During the 1st part of our trip there was an employee there and you could exchange your dirty towel for a clean one. The last part of our trip there was no employee and no towels. If you needed new towels you had to walk to the water sports department close to the other end of the property.

Problems due to moving rooms—Never realized how many problems this would cause, but it did! Guess the room number we had for 1 night was put in the system and never corrected because everyone on the property had it and this caused confusion everywhere from the spa to the gift shops to the restaurants. We heard someone comment that they received instructions for check out 2 days before their departure date, but we did not. On the morning before our departure date we checked with the occupants of our 1st room and yes they had gotten our check out information, but had returned it to the front desk the day before. When we went to the desk to try and get it they had no idea where it was and just wrote a note of times for us. Another example of very poor customer service from the front desk.

On our last night we discovered our bathroom was invaded by 1,000’s of ants when we returned to our room to turn in for the night. 1st we tried calling one number and it just rang and rang, so we ended up calling the useless front desk. All we wanted was some bug spray to kill them, but it took many calls and over ½ hour to finally get something done about them. We know “island time”, but when you are tired and have to travel the next day we were upset to be left waiting not knowing what or when anything would be done to rid our bathroom of the ants.

Departure day—Went to return towels to water sports and get the receipt you need in order to not get charged for them and they had run out of receipts. Had to make a 2nd trip back there later to finally get a receipt. Next went to check out and another problem with getting a receipt!

We were in the lobby ready to go on time, but major confusion again. 1st we were told they would load us by room numbers, but then they changed their minds and asked for groups of people traveling together and they were loaded 1st. The drivers were arguing because Couples had requested 3 vans, but then decided only 2 were needed. Ended up that the 1st two vans were almost full and then the 3rd van was used for only 2 people. Would have made logical sense to divide us between the vans so everyone would be more comfortable. The driver of our van never introduced himself and he never asked if anyone needed to stop on the way to the airport. He did make one stop and he got out of the van and ran across the street and gave something to another driver, which seemed strange. During the ride I noticed an ant on my leg, then one on my shirt, and this happened the entire trip. 1st ants the night before and now this OMG!! I didn’t want to cause a fuss and delay us, but this really freaked me out and I was so happy when we finally got to the airport and got out!

Final Thoughts—If you read Couples Message board they state they are the “most romantic all-inclusive resorts”, “couples-only” and “environment conducive to romance”. None of this was true for our recent stay due to two large wedding parties with lots of singles and they also had a lot of other single people there for the marathon that they sponsored. It’s not a romantic evening of dancing when you have 14 single women dancing together on a dance floor or romantic when groups are doing shots at a bar. This was definitely not a “couples-only” vacation!

Thank you for your review, I am so sorry and very surprised that your return visit did match your first. I hope that you spoke to our General manager while at the resort to address issues raised in this review.

Our Staff at our Airport desk do not accept tips. “Red caps” baggage handlers will expect at least USD1 for each bag carried to our transfer buses. This service is not mandatory.

Buses will stop on route if requested. Our transfer time from Montego Bay to Negril is generally one and half hours.

ALL our beds are Sealy Posturepedic pillow top King size beds. Our bed sheets are only King Size and of a high thread count. I can only assume that the maid did not make your bed correctly.

Our bathroom amenities are Shampoo, conditioner, bath soap, Moisturizer as well as soaps.

Specific room locations can be requested but are NEVER guaranteed and are subject to availability on the day of arrival. Our Garden View rooms are located closest to the main road, which is a duel carriageway.

We now offer a’la Carte breakfast in our Great House Patios Patio. Our chef would have been happy to hear your concerns and if required make specific meals for you. Our Kitchen team has changed little since your last visit.

Our In room Mini Bars offer a selection of spirits, sodas, juices and beers. Our Top Shelf Liquor is available at our bars.

Couples does not cater to singles. As stated all rooms are King beds and we do not offer Single rates.

Thank you for your comments that are viewed as constructive and can only help us to improve our service standards. I sincerely hope that you will return to a COUPLES resort in the future.
