Reviewed 13 April 2012

This was my 6th visit to Jamaica and my husband's 3rd - March 23-30, 2012 - we love the island! Jamaica has beautiful people, great beaches (in Negril), excellent music, good food and you can drink the water! This was our first stay at Sunset at the Palms - we like to try different resorts and areas - stayed at Sandals Negril last year - fell in love with the low key vibe of Negril - but if rest, relaxation and wonderful service and fantastic staff is what you're looking for.....THIS is the place! Many names stand out - Opal, Kirk, Vinroy, Shorty, Paul, Kenroy - amazing people with smiles and stories whenever you stop to chat! Only 1 staff member (who conveniently never wore his name badge) was very rude and quite abrasive - he works mostly at the pool bar - so surprising when the rest of the resort is filled with happy people! Our room was 503 and we loved it - close to everything, but not too close to everything! I agree that new pillows are required, and ladies the resort is quite dimly lit - not much light in your room and the bathroom has one 40 watt bulb for makeup!!! Hey - everyone looks better by candlelight! The complex has good lighting to get to and from rooms and this is by no means a complaint....just letting you know what to expect! Please pack your sense of humour and a few extra dollars for tipping - to the negative reviewers who don't like to tip - take the time to talk with the staff - find out what their life is like, and realize that we are all so very fortunate to be able to vacation in such lovely surroundings - a couple of dollars here and there goes a long way.....for everyone! To those who prefer better food or quicker service - stay at home! You are in another country, where the culture is different - enjoy each day for what is has to offer - if you smile at the little things, the big stuff is that much better! This hotel is not a party place. It can certainly be very entertaining if you want it to be, but it's more of a laid back, casual spot - if you want to go offsite to explore there are many options available - Gary from Respect Tours will help you at the front gate. We thought we would continue to explore different hotels, but we found our "home" at this incredible property.....we look forward to our return and wish everyone who books into the Sunset at the Palms a relaxing, happy vacation! Cheers! Cheryl & Pete (Canada)

We stayed at satp for 1wk coming home april 6. What can we say.Awesome. So relaxing, just what the dr. ordered. Not much has changed since Oct of last year. You can now get a fridge free of charge for your room. We always bring a case of beer from duty free for the room, you can only drink so much red stripe draft .Its also nice to have a cold drink on the day bed playing a game of cards.Food great, service great.and the beach was to die for. Weather was perfect. I did get bitten by bugs this time. My husband got it last time. We do spray ourselves before we go for dinner. There is a water fountain in the entrance and a stream . The water does not move which may be a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Pillows are flat, could use new ones. Opal is the best. If you like hot peppers, she will fix you up. Can't wait to go back. Love you guys. Thanks for another wonderful wk.Dont forget to tip the staff.

Room Tip: bring bug spray, citronella candles for room help also.600 & 400 rooms are good.

My husband and I just returned from a week vacation at sunset at the palms from April 2 to 9. What an amazing week. We had room 410 which was an amazing room. Beautiful deck, awesome bathroom with a huge shower. You felt like you were in the jungle. Shorty and the grounds staff did an awesome job of keeping the grounds clean and beautiful. The food was amazing at the buffet. Not a huge quantity of foods but quality was amazing. The desserts were to die for:) the waiters were awesome, very attentive. Paul and Cornelius were awesome. We ate at the beach grill everyday at lunch and opal made amazing food. The red snapper and jerk chicken were amazing as well as the chicken melt. The front staff were always so friendly and helpful and always wanted to make sure everything was ok. A huge shout out to Carla who was very helpful our first day. The pool was small but it was just fine because we spent most of our day on the beach. Never a problem getting chairs at either the beach or the pool. The beach was absolutely beautiful and the water was warm and crystal clear. We only went to look around negril one day and we arranged Gary from Gary's respect tours to take us around. He was great and made sure we got to see the lighthouse, ricks cafe and then took us to 3 dives restaurant for a lobster supper. My husband enjoyed it but I didnt care for the lobster. When we went to pay the girl on the cash tried to rip me off by giving me the wrong change but fixed it when I confronted her on it. Wouldn't go there again. The diving at ricks cafe was pretty neat. Gary waits outside the resort and very nice and will do whatever you want to do for a very reasonable price. Overall an amazing resort and vacation. Bring bug spray for nighttime, as the bugs get quite bad. Try the blended fruit punch on the beach, it's amazing!!! Definitly would recommend it if you want a quiet relaxing vacation. If you want a party resort this is not the one for you.

Best vacation in YEARS!
This place is heaven on earth.
BEST ATMOSPHERE, REAL JAMAICAN COOL, Amazing staff!
The food was a dream come true, different every time, and always good.
The rooms (cabins) are beautiful, set in a beautiful tropical forest, and the beach is perfect.
The hotel is small, relaxed and not crowded. We met some guests and made new friends.
Many of the guests we met were there a few times already, and for sure we are planning to visit again and again!
We had the time of our life!

Great place to stay in Jamaica! I have no complaints about this resort at all.
Food was amazing everyday, the red snapper at the beach grill is always good! The drinks were great as well at any of the bars.
Staff was always friendly, and very helpful. Got to know a few of them during my stay.
Rooms were beautiful, very clean and the bed was very comfortable. The shower was great with multiple shower heads. I loved lounging on the balcony reading a book.
The property itself is gorgeous, lots of greenery -tours offered by the gardener as well. The gym was small but nicely kept, I went to a few pilates classes while there and they were great. The pool on the grounds is always clean, I never took the chance to use it though since the beach was so amazing.
Don't let having the beach be across the street deter you, it's well worth the couple minute walk. The beach was always clean, looked like the best kept beach along the bay that I observed as I walked to either side. The water was as clear as can be. There were always enough lounge chairs and places to sit. Lots of people selling some really nice things on the beach.
If you walk along the beach there are places you can do some snorkelling right off the shore, which I really enjoyed.
They have some great nightly entertainment by the pool bar every night.
Met a lot of great people on this trip, being friendly goes a long way.
It was nice to visit a place with so much culture and such friendly people.
I would go back here in a heartbeat!

We stayed here in late March...it was just ok...the food was ok...repetitive...especially for breakfast...bland...the resort overall is very noisy during the day....workers using wipper-snippers...gas powered with fumes...employees shouting to each other...instead of speaking to each other...they serve tap water all the time...no bottled water here...unless you buy it at the gift shop...$2 for a 500ml bottle..the service was ok...they should really change the filters in the A/C unit...we turned it on and started sneezing like crazy...the beach is across the street...kind of dirty...especially down the strip between the hotels...litter...even though there is a crossing guard....it's still somewhat dangerous in my opinion...the vehicles are usually doing around 70-80 km/h...don't really feel the need to stop for pedestrians...oh well. The nightly entertainment was pretty good...they sing way too much of the same thing...Bob Marley songs all the time...some of the employees at this resort did an amazing job...including the very genuine Nurse on site...Lair was also very personable...met a lot of great people on the resort...down to Earth..would most likely not return to this resort though...

Room Tip: Rooms in the 400's (412) are ideal...anything else in my opinion and you're too close to the...
