“Great resort”
Reviewed 12 January 2014 via mobile

We stayed at the Palms with our two year old just before they became adults only.

Excellent style tree house style rooms. Very private and quiet. Beautiful grounds. Loved that they had a fully equipped gym and even a yoga room. The staff was wonderful. Every Monday they do a cocktail reception for you to meet them. The food was pretty similar most days but good variety. The pool is small but across the street is the beach. The beach grill there is wonderful too. But I was bit by a lot of sun fleas (could be seasonal but very painful and itchy). My only thing I didn't like was how far it was from seven mile beach. We had to cab it every time we wanted to go.

My wife and I spent a week at SATP, which included New Year’s Eve celebration. (danced my but off)

Having traveled to other AI’s including Mexico, Cuba and other parts of the Caribbean, SATP ranks at the top of our visits.

The accommodation’s as stated in other reviews are rustic, but more than adequate (great shower) and are a perfect fit for the beautiful settings of lush gardens and beautiful vistas. I personally do not go on holiday to spend a lot of time in my room. Housekeeping did a fantastic job of keeping us with fresh towels, turn down service …anything we needed, when in the room.

The staff gives a sense as if you’re the most important guest, never did we feel that we were being paid lip service, although we are low maintenance.

The pool we rarely used, as we spent 95% of our time on the beach. The beach although narrow in comparison to Varadero and Santa Clara was well groomed and we always had easy access to lounger no matter the time of day. The merchants strolling the stretch of sand were never overwhelming and in fact added a welcome ambiance, especially the musicians, the cigarette man and the multitude of characters who gave the “respect man” when you said no thank you.

Food…never made it to any of the two restaurants as the buffet provided a good selection of fresh veggies and entries, local and cosmopolitan .

The world is a big place and we will seek somewhere else to go for our next escape from the Great White North, but saying that I will not hesitate to recommend the SATP to anyone looking for a beautiful quite resort with a boutique vibe. We will be back someday!

Room Tip: Try to request in the 700-400 beautiful view of the natural sanctuary from your deck.

This is a bijou small hotel of 85 rooms set in tropical gardens. The individual tree top rooms are spacious and well equiped. The only downside is that they are a bit dark with not alot of natural light.
The pool area is quite small but then why sit by a pool when you have the gorgeous beach across the road 5 mins away which is no hardship.
We stayed at the Rui 3 years ago and yes, you do get more choice of food, but the food here is plentiful and quality is excellent. If you want something you don;t see then just ask and they will bring it for you.
The Staff are 2nd to none here, nothing is too much trouble.
The atmosphere of the hotel makes you feel so chilled and relaxed i have never known a hotel like it.
The only one little niggle if i had one were the hotel pillows, very lumpy but then i am being very picky now.
Other than that a fantastic hotel which i would definately go to again

Room Tip: Room 300-400 which are away from the road

Let me start by saying that we are back from our fourth trip to SATP, our first at Christmas. We love it so much here that we don't even travel to other destinations in the Caribbean any more. We love the small size of the resort, the quiet, the beauty, the lovely rooms and decks, and most importantly, the people who work so hard to make our stay relaxing and perfect. Everyone remembers us so when we return each time, it is like coming back home.
This time when we visited we were pleasantly surprised to find another restaurant "The Chef's Table". It has a set menu, is very small, and offers good food in addition to a singing and dancing sous chef. A wonderful addition to an already great resort. The buffet offers a good selection of food, and the beach grill with its cajun red snapper is always a winner. Many thanks Opal!
Christmas at SATP was beautiful. There were two trees decorated just like trees i had seen decorated on Steven and Chris, very trendy and pretty. Christmas dinner offered an amazing assortment -turkey, stuffed pork loin, chicken, fish and more. Not the traditional turkey dinner but delicious nonetheless. My husband, the carnivore, was especially impressed! I loved the plum pudding...
Another new treat was the mimosa cocktails before dinner. Cherry, orange or plum juice with sparkling wine in a champagne flute? What a wonderful way to begin an evening! But this is typical of the people at SATP, they are always looking for new ways to make you feel even more special and welcome.
The people who work at this resort are warm and friendly, going out of their way to make sure you know that you are valued, like a family member without the hassles! Damian and Shemoy are the best waiters in the whole world, and a fantastic team when they work together.
We love the life guard at the pool, even if he can't sing!
In closing, I can hardly wait to go back home in March!

I am writing this because my Wife and I just got back from here and this review is completely and utterly the prime example of someone that knows nothing about foreign travel. The Maid Service turned off your Air conditioner, because these are open windowed villas. The A/c is used as a luxury for at night or a day time nap. It seems that you are used to America where people care not for their environment and or wasting energy. The balcony doors are soo far off the ground that the only person that could reach it would be someone well over 7' tall. the place has plenty of guards the patrol and you would never need to worry about someone breaking in and stealing your stuff.
The cleaning Ladies only turn your bed in the late afternoon to prepare for dinner.. they clean the showers and your balcony doors during the day.

The reason your paintings were stolen were because you had them in a plastic bag that probably was sitting next to a trash can. You have the option for a safe and they encourage you to use it from the beginning. The same as the A/c, they state from the very beginning to turn it off when not using the room.

The food was good however I will say that the Menu really does not change very much. I will say that because i'm an American that I do enjoy my food on vacation and while I was not disappointed, I was not impressed.

This facility is everything you could ever want in a relaxing and simple vacation. The nature is absolutely Wonderful and while the beach is a very SHORT walk away it is an awesome beach and there is no way I could see a bad review for it.

The villas are not very sound proof.. That would be one thing I would have to say was a little disappointing. I love the open air fee.. but sound proof curtains to go over the windows at night would really cut down on the noise.

All in all, if you want A/c 24/7 and you want your beach right outside your door.. Cancun is where you should go.. If you want a relaxing "next to" nature vacation then this place is for you.

Everyone is extremely nice and polite and will do anything for you.

Room Tip: It really is not going to matter which room you choose because the sound travels.. forget about bein...

Sunset at the Palms is a charming smaller resort in Negril. The setting is calming and quiet. The resort has less than 200 rooms and the typical guests seemed to be couples between the ages of 35-65 -- so if you are worried about a bunch of drunk college kids, don't worry -- this is not that kind of place. We called ahead and asked for a quiet room and were very pleased with our location. The beach is lovely, but we rarely used it because there were so many people smoking cigarettes (the cigarette smoke far outweighed the ganja). Instead, we set up by the pool each day and for the most part, we felt as if we had the pool all to ourselves. As other reviewers have noted, the staff members are friendly, although I didn't think they were any more or less friendly than any other resort we've visited. The food is good and there was plenty of variety, even for vegetarians. My one complaint is that the bed pillows are terrible and the bath products were a bit sketch. If you require a good pillow, bring your own. And if you want exotic scented elixers in your bath, bring those as well. Otherwise, we loved our room and we especially loved all the night time crickets and frogs -- it is like a rain forest orchestra! Overall, we really enjoyed our time at Sunset at the Palms and would recommend it to others.

Sunset is the best all inclusive in the area, particularly for a honeymoon/romantic getaway. The staff is fantastic. The grounds are beautiful. The Lotus Leaf restaurant is delicious. The cabins are peaceful. If possible, try to get a cabin away from the road and outdoor public areas but you will be pleased no matter what. The advantages of this smaller resort far exceed the overwhelming and fairly superficial environment of the larger, neighboring resorts. It was our first trip to Jamaica and we want to go back to this resort in addition to a few nights at a guest house in town, which are numerous but not well publicized.

Also recommend a day tour with Randy, AKA "John Wayne" and the One Love Pub crawl. Get out and explore using Sunset as a friendly, easy home base. Can't wait to return.

Room Tip: If possible, try to get a cabin away from the road and outdoor public areas. Remembering that cabins...
