“Paradise at a Price”
Reviewed 2 September 2014 via mobile

As a first timer to Jamaica, I was uncertain what to expect. Island is lush and tropical. The ride from Donald Sangster airport in Montego Bay to Negril is 50 miles providing amazing views of the sea. The SATP is just architecturally stunning and very different from the other resorts on the blvd. running through Negril. Staff there are friendly, and service is just top notch. They will bend over backward for your every need. See Cornelius for dinner or Cherry at the coffee bar - they will take good care of you! Truly paradise. The price however is that unless you are on the resort property, you will be accosted. Crossing the street to get to the beach, you will be stopped by a half dozen cabs waiting to give you their cards and sell you tours or drugs. On the way to and on the way back! Then at the beach, you will be bothered as you lay there by souvenir peddlers, timeshare sales, day trips, and drug offers. SO if you are looking for just some peace and quiet, to decompress and relax - do yourself a favor and just stay at the pool. Oh, and yes, you will be followed to there too in case you change your mind about an excursion. But at least its only once or twice in the week I was there. Know before you go - bring cash, no one takes credit cards and ATM is off property, which is not safe. Bring lots and lots of bug spray. Mosquitos are everywhere. Good luck.

My wife and I chose this resort for our honeymoon after being disappointed by the high cost of water bungalows in places like the Maldives. We wanted the sort of seclusion you get from having your own separate place and seeing as Jamaica was on my bucket list, we chose this. We weren't disappointed by even 1 aspect of this hotel. Well, our first night we spent in a room in the 600 range which was right next to road and was too loud, I asked for a change at the desk and the next day we were moved to the back of the resort in the 400 range which was paradise. The food here is excellent, the buffet is different each day but repeated by week, still even on those same days you'll find 1 or 2 different dishes that weren't there the first week. Make sure you try the jerk chicken in the buffet restaurant at the live cooking station as it cooked over the traditional burning wood so you get that real authentic smoky jerk flavour. You an book the Lotus Leaf restaurant as many times as you want and you should go a couple of times, the beef and tune steak are both amazing. You can do the chef's table once and that's a great experience. The beach is the most relaxing place I have ever been. The buskers create a great atmosphere and if you want them to play for you, a dollar or two is all it takes and then you can get a photo with them or a video. The buskers and the vendors will move on if you just give them a no thanks but some of them even just like a quick chat so don't try get rid of them straight away. Talk to the young police lads on the beach too they are really great, friendly and chatty! Back to the hotel, our favourite staff were Clive, Tian and Kemp, all bar lads and they are fantastic. The rum at the bar is amazing, you must try it in the strawberry daiquiri. Often if you are sat at the bar and you turn around to pick your nearly empty drink up, you will find it has sneakily been filled again!
The rooms are very comfortable but ask for a mosquito net on check in. The grounds are phenomenal and it is like staying in a jungle, keep and eye out for the geckos, hummingbirds, tree frogs, dragon flies, land crabs and mongoose! Our first day back I was already looking at prices for next year!

We are heading back to Sunset at the Palms for our 4th time in 5 yrs. I have read many reviews on this resort and let me tell you some people are very hard to please.
Jamaica is made by its smiling, happy, friendly people and SATP is full of those people in its staff.
The rooms are comfortable and clean and the setting is absolutely stunning.
Each time we have been the food has been superb and the service even better.
If you are lucky you will have Kenroy greet you and be at your service.
If you want loud noisy partying going on till early morning, this resort is not for you,
If you want relaxing quite, peaceful and a good nights sleep, this is the place.
When you see the beach and test the water you will know you made the right choice.
My wife and I are looking forward to returning in Nov 2014.
Come visit Sunset at the Palms, you will be glad you did.

Room Tip: 400 block or rooms further away from the front.

This is a wonderful resort. Every staff member was friendly and very helpful. Very clean and the food was fantastic. Even had a romatic candle lite dinner on our balcony for my husband's birthday. He was super suprised. Great couples only resort...

We were there in Aug 14 for one week. We chose that Resort because we wanted a place to just relax. We enjoy long marches on the beach and this is a must when selecting our vacation location. Sunset at the Palm is nested is a tropical paradise. It is so peaceful that you would think there is nobody on the Resort. The staff is amazingly friendly and courteous. The beach is 2 miles long. The water is very clear and so warm you can stay in the whole day... But there are two gigantic resorts on both sides of the Sunset and do not expect to find a quiet beach. It is full of people, noise, music. It is still a pleasant place to relax and the sunsets are breathtaking, especially after a thunderstorm. The "Chef Dinner" is an event you do not want to miss. If it were not for the crowed beach (I can't imagine what it is like during Xmas season!), I would rate this resort at 5 stars. If you are looking for a peaceful place, the Resort is ideal, but not the beach.

Room Tip: Select a room away from the main road

Visited sunset at the palms for two weeks mid-august and it was fantastic!!!
All the staff bent over backwards to help you and provide for you. They were always happy, relaxed and the answer to any qusstion was "No problem!!"
The food was plentiful, varied and wonderfully presented in the buffet restaurant. The a la carte restaurant was second to none with very high standards in both quality and service. Christine and Shamoi doing a particularly brilliant job waiting on.
Bar staff were so friendly and helpful and knew us well within two days!!! Clive, Kemp and Tian deserve special mentions for making our holiday so wonderful and enjoyable. They even joined in with the english humour!!! (Very unusual when on holiday!!!)
All the staff were always willing to help and all the chefs (and there's several) were brilliant-they would make anything you asked for!!!! Elvis deserves a special mention as a lifesaver at midnight when you get the munchies!!!!
Reception staff were fantastic from the moment we arrived and nothing wax too much trouble for them. Anything we mentioned was addressed within minutes!!!! (Very unusual!!)
The resort was stunning and the photos in the brochure do not do it justice- it is just paradise!!
The rooms were lovely!! CLEAN, TIDY, REFRESHED AND COOL!! (Brilliant air con!!)
The beach was perfect!! Quiet but with lots to entertain everyone.
Zavian, the photographer did us a brilliant photo shoot on the beach at sunset , producing the most wondergul pictures ever. You really should explore this-well worth the money!!
And a visit ti Rick's cafe is a must!!!!
Overall, a fantastic holiday!! Youre missing out if you don't go!!!

Sunset at the Palms different to any other holiday that we had been on, we went for our silver wedding anniversary, but intend to go back as soon as we can.
The overall resort is beautiful, if you want a clinical, marble styled hotel, forget it, if you prefer a smaller friendly hotel, set in fantastic gardens, great food, andl genuiely helpful staff this is the place to go.
All the rooms are tree house style, very private and spacious. The beach is across the road, but this is not a problem, in fact we quite enjoyed the walk over, meeting the taxi drivers outside the hotel. Do not be afraid to use these guys for trips around the island, they are great, very knowledgeable, helpful and will show you a lot more than the organised trips by the travel agents. We went out with Lloyd Jah Lives Tours, as did quite a few others who were stopping there at the same time as us, and everyone had a great time. When you get to the beach (and its only a very short walk across the road) its fantastic, beach bar and grill are as good as in the hotel, fresh cooked food all day with friendly helpful staff. Lots of musicians and traders walk along the beach, but no hassle. The sea is the best, perfect temperature just walk straight out, even first thing of the morning, I normally have to go in a few inches at a time, but not here, cant say how great the place is.Make sure you stay at least once to watch the sun go down, it is called Sunset at the Palms...
The restaurant at the hotel is buffet style, but its better than what you would normally expect from a buffet style with options of steak, duck, turkey as well as live cooking stations for fish etc. There are two other options for evening dining, both are exceptional, the Lotus leaf restaurant is superb, everone tried to book at least twice so that they could sample more of the menu, and the Chefs Table, where they cook the food in front of you in the gardens whilst you eat is unforgettable.
Yes there are mosquitos, but it is a tropical setting, and I strongly recommend the anti mosquito wrist bands, they last about a week, cost next to nothing and can prevent a lot of bites if you are prone to getting bitten.
This is a very special resort and would happily recommend it.
