“Nice folks work here!”
Reviewed 26 June 2011

A nice, roomy place, a bit overpriced, but it is located about in the middle of 7-mile beach. Rondel will charge your credit card for the whole amount right away. Ask them how and when they will charge you, and about refund policy. Beds (Mattresses) need updated. Need new beach towels also. Nice grounds, stay beach side. Nice refreshing pool, with cool birds around. Very nice security employees, and support staff. The restaurant was very good. Enjoyed Red Snapper (curry style), homemade bread, very friendly, great staff, shrimp fried rice to name a few dishes.
One suggestion would be to have the owners change up the awful uniforms they make the women wear who are cleaning the rooms. They seemed very outdated and these workers deserve the best.
Also, be aware of the folks trying to sell you stuff out in front of the resort or anywhere on 7-mile beach. Be firm, saying no thankyou, make eye contact, but be respectful. Do not say you will be back later as they remember and will hold you to it. The Rastas are very manipulative and will try and offer you something for free ( a piece of jewerly or food for example) and then want money. That was the biggest hassle, as they take advantage of nice people. Set boundaries and you will be okay.

The staff and property are lovely. Shared a 2 bedroom villa with my family and my friends family. Took a 6 yr old and a 12 yr old; everyone had a blast. The property is very secure and we always felt safe. Will definitely return.

Toying whether to give this 4 or 5* but went for 4 in the end, We got the melon room, which was one of the two beachfront ones, and were very pleased we did - the balcony was excellent, and the view lovely. The room was spacious and clean, with a large kingsize + fridge. Staff were friendly. The grounds were well-maintained.

Downsides:
- be prepared to pay for all the extras: safe $3 a day, internet $4 a day (tho they forgot to charge us)
- while the security staff were friendly, they could have done more to stop the (many many) raggedy rastas hastling you while sunbathing out front of the hotel. Not a problem for me, but my wife took to sunbathing in the courtyard to get away from them.
- The food in the restaurant was poor, especially the breakfasts (though the take away coffees and free refill was very cool)
- As in many other restaurants and bars in Negril, the pricing was often 'murky'. It wasn't uncommon to be charged different amounts for the same round at the bar depending on which staff was on...don't expect that at a hotel.

Still, when you look at some of the other beachside places in Negril (not the luxury places at the Bloody Bay end) then this is definitely one of the best and I have no reservations about recommending it.

Room Tip: Pay the extra and get the beachfront room!

Wow!!! It was like nothing I had ever experienced before.

My husband and I stayed in the Sweetsop room May 13 - 20, 2011, one of two beachfront rooms at Rondel. When we arrived at our room, we put our luggage down and leaped onto the bed to take a load off. We were expecting to bounce when we hit the mattress, only we just flat out flopped. Never in my life have I ever had to sleep on a bed so hard! The best way I can put the firmness of the mattress...it literally felt like we were sleeping on an ironing board. I KID YOU NOT --there was no support, comfort, or flexibility - only slight, and I do mean slight, flexibility like an ironing board. When I slapped the bed with an open hand, it sounded and felt like I had just hit the top of the nightstand. Our stay was for 7 nights, by the 4th night I was dreaming about my bed at home. And you can forget about going back to sleep if you have to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. It got to the point where we would purposely try to tire ourselves out before going to bed just so we could fall asleep on that thing. I would have requested to switch to the other beachfront room to try our luck there, unfortunately that room was occupied for our entire stay.

Overall, Rondel is a nice place to stay. It's located about midway along the beach so we were able to walk up and down the beach to most restaurants and vendors. The groundskeepers are quite visible during the day, constantly washing sidewalks and sucking up fallen leaves. Housekeeping was good -- no complaints there. Wi-fi is not free. It costs $3/day and we had poor reception in our room. We always had to step outside the front door to get reception. I guess the further away you are from the front desk, the weaker the signal (worked like a charm near the front of the property).

Our ratings on scale of 1 - 10:

-Housekeeping: 10
-Cleanliness of property: 10
-Front desk staff: 10. We didn't have any issues, they were quite friendly, but we also didn't need much from them either.
-Restaurant: 5. Prices are high and food is tasteless - there are plenty of other options within walking distance that are cheaper and have better tasting food.
-Television: 10. 32" flat screen with cable channels based out of Miami and three premium channels, HBO, TMC, and Showtime. Several hotels in Negril don't have TVs in the rooms. Be sure to research that if that's an important feature for you.
-A/C unit: 10. The unit was modern and had a remote control with several settings and fan speeds. Kept our room nice and cool. (There is also a ceiling fan and mini-fridge inside the room.)
-Guard(s): 7. While Rondel is not a gated property, there is always someone on duty at the front entrance. They wouldn't even allow my husband's brother, who lives in the area, to come to our room. Although he picked us up from the airport, he couldn't even make it past the parking lot. Only guests staying at Rondel are allowed to make it past the front office.
-Bed: -10. My review is based solely on our experience in Sweetsop. I hope other rooms have a better mattress.

Overall, I loved Rondel, except for the bed. Therefore, I think we will try another resort/hotel when we return.

My husband and I chose Rondel Village largely because of many positive reviews on Trip Advisor and our experience there in mid-April definitely met our expectations. It is a place where many guests return year after year... we met a group of couples from Washington State who've been coming for 15 years. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Our chambermaid, Beatrice, was a real sweetheart and the security guards John-o, Carl and Edward were always smiling. Edward got a kick out of us trying to eat a mango and the next day when we awoke there were 8 of them on the table outside our villa door -picked from his backyard.
We stayed on the garden side (cheapest villas) and loved it - very private with a lovely pool and beautiful plantings. Our villa was clean and spacious; most nights were quiet and when the disco next door was operating (Thursday and Friday night) the sound of the air conditioner muffled any noise so we slept well.
The beach is lovely - incredibly warm, clear water, and great for walking. Once we got used to dealing with the vendors ("I'm good, mon. Respect.") we looked forward to long walks every day.
The restaurant at Rondel Village is nothing special and relatively expensive so we ate only one breakfast there and then went to dinner at places recommended by people we met on the beach. Our favorite was Best of the West (jerk chicken, fish, etc.) just down the road on the non-beach side. For lunch we ate patties from the beach vendors or from Niah's stand just down from the hotel. We made 2 trips to Negril to stock up on yogurt, granola, fruit and Red Stripes from the supermarket (refrigerator in villa kept things cold) and ate most breakfasts on the patio of our villa.
All in all, we were very pleased with our stay and enjoyed getting to know the local culture more than we would have if we had stayed at an all-inclusive.

rondel village is a beautiful hotel, my husband and i went and stayed in the villa tangerine on november 13th for the week. the first half of our trip was amazing. but then we com eback to our hotel rooma nd to our suprise there are multiple house keepers in our room just hanging out. visiting with our house keeper. we thought it was strange but didnt care much because everyone was so nice. but then we go into the safe that you have to pay $3.00/night extra for, and find that we have money missing. not all of it but none the less hundreds of dollars of money was gone. we went to the front desk and complained and they acted concerned but then proceeded to blow us off. then we got the police involved. needless to say the second half of our trip was ruined thanks to the personell of rondel village i would highly suggest NOT staying here.

Room Tip: stay away from rooms with safes that use keys.

We stayed at Rondel Village for the second year in a row this past February. We were there for one week and had a lovely time. Rondel Village is very centrally located on the beach and right in the heart ofe everything! Great staff!
We would definitely stay there again!
