Coco La Palm, ticked all the boxes for us. Nothing to complain about from our end.

My husband and I have just returned from a four week vacation travelling around the US, Canada and Jamaica. My second visit to Jamaica (Negril) and my husband’s first. The idea of visiting Jamaica, was in search of warm water and sunshine after our time in far Northern Canada. For our seven nights in Jamaica, I decided to split our time up with four nights at The Rockhouse on the Cliffs and then three nights at Coco La Palm on Seven Mile Beach. My second stay at Coco La Palm.

It is a small boutique style property, on one of the nicest parts of Seven Mile Beach and at an affordable price. The vendors on the beach don’t really bother you. If they become too much of a nuisance, security will move them on quickly. However, it is great to buy ice creams and fresh fruit from them, along with other various food items.

If you don’t like “all inclusive” hotels, this property is perfect for you. Allowing you the options to dine on site, or walk along the beach to one of the many other restaurants, or even a short taxi ride to other options. The restaurant is good, the food good and staff friendly. We couldn’t quite work out how the breakfast worked though. What was included and what you paid for. It was not a huge problem for us.

Our accommodation was great and we had one of the rooms on the beachfront. Room 521. I can’t remember the room type though.

We were there during the off-season, so it was lovely and quiet. There were still people around, but you didn’t feel over crowed wherever you were. They have a nice pool, but the majority of people take advantage of the sand and ocean. There is a small beauty salon there with different treatments. I can’t comment on this, as we did not use it.

The biggest downfall and frustration, was by far, the Wi-Fi. It was not working, regardless of how many times you asked Reception or how many times they told you that it would be up and running in a few hours. If having Wi-Fi is of high importance for you, the secret is . . . as we were told by guests, who we then quickly passed the message on to guests that we saw, is to go to the white wedding cabana in the garden and log onto the hotel next door and use their Internet. No security code is required.

All the staff that we interacted with from Reception, Gardeners, Restaurant, Bar and Transport, were great. Helpful, friendly and accommodating at all times.

Would we stay here again? Absolutely.

Regards,
Cherie

Room Tip: Request a beach front room.

We are repeaters to Coco so I'm writing this review based on the observations of multiple visits.
This place is the perfect location if you want to experience the essence of Negril's 7 mile beach, It's location right in the middle allows you to walk to the North and pass a few small hotels, and the large All inclusives. This direction tends to be a cleaner walk. A left turn at the beach will take you to more "real" beach establishments with a distinct local flavor. We walked both directions everyday and consider this our exercise there.
The hotel is broken up into several different 2 story buildings and the rooms are clean by most standards. The A/C has always worked and most rooms have ceiling fans. The room staff is very friendly and accommodating. In fact all of the staff that works inside the sand line is wonderful and helpful. Once you enter the beach area though it's a different story. The staff at the beachside grill are just plain rude and indifferent and act as though you should feel privileged that they acknowledge your presence, this same indifference was displayed by management who was working at the time. There is no public ice machine on the premises so you are instructed to go to them if you need ice, even with a tip you are treated as if it's a major inconvenience for them to lean forward from their perch and retrieve ice from the cooler. The main bar has a TV set blaring so loudly with cricket matches on that you can barely tolerate sitting there to consume your overpriced drink. The beach staff is there in the morning to unstack the chairs from the night before and if tipped well enough in advance will place them where you'd like. But after their initial appearance of the day they disappear and leave the beach to the only truly helpful person on the sand, the Security Guard. This guy is not even a hotel employee and he is picking up trash and keeping the beach clean and keeps the vendors from encroaching on "his" people. Andrew Gibson of Guardsman Security is a real asset to Coco's beachfront.
The food is tasty at all offerings with pricing at the high end of the scale. The food price has jumped substantially for breakfast and moderately for the rest in the past year. Even with the free continental breakfast credit we paid $12-14 plus their 20% for 2 breakfasts.
Once the sun goes down here people disappear. There is a couple of places to drink or dine within extreme short walking distance but the beach is dark and a little "sketchy" at night. Any lively nightlife is a cab ride away. There are very few people to be seen here either dining or at the bar, and I mean less than a dozen on any given night. The place is quiet.
It is convenient to the Catholic church, It's just across the street. It's a long but manageable walk to Times Square shopping and various local food and beverage shops.
For the best price on a room shop around. The prices seem to be climbing for no good reason. Coco has been a good beachfront hotel in the past and has a lot of repeat customers but it does appear that times may be changing.

just got home from the coco. second year in a row that i spent my holiday at the coco. i even brought a couple extra friends down this year with me, and they enjoyed it also. we enjoyed our breakfast in the morning, and lunch at the grille. very good jerk chicken, and club sandwiches. our room was just fine, it was clean, and spotless everyday we came back from the beach. it is my favorite place to stay. but, to each his own..and the band on friday nights is wonderful.

Upon arrival the receptionist was very nice. When I entered our room, it smelled like old mold. GROSS!!! I thought how am I suppose to stay here for 5 days. The room was outdated but the smell of the room was he worst. I checked out the next day and went next door to sandy haven, which was a better choice
