“beware of a thief or thieves”
Reviewed 23 November 2009

We read all the good reviews on this resort and chose this resort this year for our vacation. Please do not make the same mistake as we did!

My wife and I decided to take our adult kids on family vacation. It's not the first time we have to Jamaica, we usually stay at the RIU Palace on Bloody Bay but since we had the kids---7 Mile Beach seemed more fun for them.

While we dining out the first night, our safe was broken into and a large sum of money was stolen including a 14k bracelet(very nice). The kids had a cell phone and cigarettes stolen from their room.

Let me point out something- the safes are electrocnic code and the rooms lock push button types.

I called the front desk to report crime. She asked if I wanted police to which I said yes. She also said she would contact hotel manager. Later he called saying it was impossible for anybody to get into safe and he would be right up. The police detective showed up and took our statements. He was courteous and very professional. It was hours before the manager showed up and when he did!! HORRIBLE!

He called us liars and thiefs!!!! We were dumbfounded by his attitude. He interrogatted us for hours implying we were lying cheating thiefs literally saying this to our faces. He even threatened to kick us out of the the hotel on the street (his words) if we mentioned this to anyone staying at the hotel. This was an all day grilling event and into the evening.
Finally, he admitted he could open our safe with a master code.

Need I say ---I called our travel rep and we switched hotels. Still and yet, this incident ruined our vacation. Don't let it ruin yours.

My husband and I have both been to Negril (me, twice; he, 30 times) but had not yet visited Coco La Palm. Our eight-day stay at CLP was wonderful, truly pleasant, enjoyable, and relaxing. The staff is as friendly as possible, helpful, and accommodating. We got great help from Esna (front desk manager), Steve (towel shack), Shirley (breakfast waiter) and Cara (housekeeping).
We traveled near the end of rainy season and got a great price, and almost daily rain. The rain provided a nice break from the strong sun. The food at the resort restaurant, Marley's by the Sea, is good enough to stay "home'. But great dining choices nearby are consistently rated the best of Negril: Norma's at Sea Splash and Kuyaba.
CLP had everything we wanted and needed (beautiful grounds, superb location) but nothing that we did not want (noisy nightlife or crowds). The rooms are pretty enough and comfortable enough; the small resort has a lot of charm. The grounds are very well maintained by the staff. Not only would we recommend Coco La Palm, but we might break our practice of 'trying new' and return to what we know and enjoy.

My husband and I stayed at Coco for 4 nights in the week of Oct. 12th. We found the staff to be very helpful and pleasant. We had an oceanview room right beside the bar. We felt safe the whole time we were there and really look forward to going back next year.

Tips: 1) Take a ride with Mike on his glass boat. 2) Bring Jamaican dollars 3) Go to Coletta's for lunch or even dinner 4) Ask for Whitney as your driver if you need one. 5) Don't fall for all the vendors

Enjoy.

My trip to Negril turned out to be a very uncomfortable last leg of my stay in Jamaica. My family and I stayed at a Villa in Montego Bay for 7 days and then stayed at the Coco LaPalm for the last 3 nights. Our accomodations were the 3 bedroom. First, we had to wait at least 1 1/2 to get out suite. The paint in the master bedroom closet was dripping off the wall. The pink paint was smudged on my suitcase and the smell was horrible. The smell was unbearable. There were holes in the ceiling. The kitchen looked spooky and old. We decided to stay on the beach as long as we could so that when we returned to the room we will drop off to sleep without thinking about the horrible condition of the suite. We just could not do it, we went to the front desk to ask for another suite. The front desk clerk was very helpful and tried her best to get us the best rooms they had available. We ended up with 2 rooms, one that ajoined and one single room. The room that I occupied the toilet overflowed and would not stop running. My boyfriend had to shut the water off in order to stop the flooding. Maintenance came to fix the problem so all was well again. Overall this property is in need of a major renovation.

We stayed at Coco La Palms end of September-October and had a great time.

The rooms are comfortable although a little dated but hey with the hotel being right in the middle of the amazing 7 mile beach you will not be spending much time in your room anyway!

Breakfast tasted great with lots to choose from but dinner was well over priced for the quality of the food. We found a great little place called Sweet Spice tucked away from the touristy area of Negril with really good food and great prices too.

Overall we had a great time and will certainly be paying a visit to Coco La Palm next year.

Its not "all inclusive" and its not a 5 star, but the restaurant has great food, and you can walk down the sandy beach a little ways and find more good places to eat with all the Jamaican atmosphere and friendliness that the "All Inclusives" dont have. Great beach, with a fun mix of people. Its owned by a Minnesota family, but you still feel the Jamaican touch - they also keep property up nicely. The rooms aren't the "Grand Lido", but seriously - how much time do you spend in your room?....the beds are comfortable, air conditioners work, big bathroom, 2 pools, beach bar, restaurant that serves blue mountain coffee (add the sweet cream) & banana bread....We sometimes stay at the Lido or the Riu, depending on rates...but we have no problem staying at Coco La Palm..they also have some great beach-front rooms.

Coco la Palm boasts some of the best beachfront on Negril Beach in Jamaica. The staff makes you feel like part of a larger community and the Junior Ocean View Suites with octagon ceilings or Beach Front rooms are the way to go as is traveling off season. The rooms are clean but could use a bit of updating in decor. The hotel restaurant makes a great banana bread for breakfast but is not our favorite for dinner. Rooms really vary so use their website to check them out or call them before booking. Jerk chicken at their beach hut and a Red Stripe...All you need is at the beach!
