“Home Sweet Home is a perfect name for a perfet place!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 July 2011

Home Sweet Home is a nice, clean, beautiful property on the cliffs, just out of Negril. It provides a panoramic view of the ocean that is undeniably one of the best in Negril! There is a lot of space to roam and just sit and chill including being just above the ocean in several areas on the property. Swimming pool is small, but water was cool and refreshing on many hot days! The staff is wonderful, kind and generous! Rooms are comfortable, clean and accommodating. It is located in a very user friendly area where you can get groceries, liquor, coffee, fresh fruit all within walking distance. Many taxi's passing by at all times, so it's a hop, skip and a jump to the beach, HSH providing towels for the trip! Every time I returned to the property I felt like I was home again! Nice!

Room Tip: All the rooms are situated overlooking the ocean!

As a frequent traveler to Negril, this was my first time staying on the West End. Home Sweet Sweet Home Satisfied all my needs. I stayed in the Penthouse and after my first sunset I knew that I had made a great decision. The staff was amazing, always friendly and always on hand to take care of my every need. The snorkling was great and the I used the pool often which was always clean. Just a few minor observations that I recommend. The A/C unit leaks into the hallway which makes the walking very slippery, I almost went down a few times. Also, the cleaning staff was great except the floors were very dirty, which was not nice getting onto bed or just after a shower. The Wifi was not working and this was very important to me. These are small isuues in comparrion to the overwhelming experince that I had.

Rest assured Kids, I will be back and will recoomend Charlie and his great staff and his resort to everyone I meet.

Soon Come! (Again) :)

Room Tip: Go for the Penthouse

Our stay at Home Sweet Home Resort was absolutely wonderful. There were 4 of us there, so we stayed in the Cliffedge Suite (room 11). The amount of space was perfect, and the views were absolutely beautiful. We had a lighted balcony with a table for us to play games on at night, overlooking the sea. This was our first time not doing the whole all inclusive thing, and we did miss it, but being on the cliffs was worth it. We love deep water and to snorkleing, and HSH was perfect for that. We did have one day when the water did get too rough to get it, but other than that, the water was perfect and calm. Matine, the manager of HSH, was wonderful. She made it a point to meet and greet each one of us personally. We had a late flight home, so she went out of her to accomodate us, so we were able to still enjoy the beautiful ocean on our last day. Our flight arrived a little early to JA, and Chris (driver) was already there waiting for us. Our cook, Terry was wonderful and well as our server, Tamara. They both went out of their way to help us. We were curious on how to make a few certain drinks, and they came to our room to show us how to do it. We could tell that all of the staff at HSH worked hard on a daily basis to try and keep HSH looking beautiful. If I had one semi-negative thing to say, it would be that the hot tub wasn't working. I would have definitely been it every night, but it sure didn't ruin my trip. Overall, I would definitely reccommend HSH to others. If you love the deep, beautiful sea waters and would like a relaxed, quiet atmosphere, this is the place for you. If you are planning to make your own frozen drinks with a mix, I suggest bringing the mix from home, b/c JA doesn't really sell drink mixes like we have in the states.

Home Sweet Home is a great name for this place, which is like staying at a small, relaxed, private inn that just happens to be one of the most beautiful spots in Negril.
There were four of us in our group, two teenagers, and the room was perfect. It was spacious and airy, with a small bedroom (three beds total). It's not what one might call "upscale," but that's not what we were looking for... The room was clean and neat, with a fridge and one new A/C unit in the main part, and a smaller A/C unit in the little bed room.
You absolutely cannot beat the location, too. It is on the north part of the west end, and is situated so you can see the entire stretch of 7 mile beach to your right, and all the way down to Samsara (with Blue Cave Castle in between) on your left...
The owner and staff have been making some great improvements to the already beautiful grounds, including work on the cliff decks, which are in the perfect location for jumping in.
The staff is small, but very kind and attentive. We really enjoyed getting to know them and felt completely secure and cared for. Charlie, the owner, was not on-site while we were there, but he was extremely helpful while making the reservations, and even available by email (from abroad!) when we had questions. We really felt like he cared about the resort, and about making sure we were comfortable and had a good experience.
This was our first time staying at Home Sweet Home, and we can't wait to return. It was really sad to have to leave after just 7 days!
Thank you to Charlie, Martine, Terry, Tamara, Dino, Petal and Chris!

What else to say but what a sweet spot on the cliffs in the west end of Negril...Have stayed at the beach other times, but this year decided to stay on the cliffs at HSH and we were certainly not disappointed...There is something majestic about the cliffs and at HSH we found our little piece of heaven....It is quiet peacful and beautiful...The staff was great any questions or concerns no problem...its a small hotel with beautiful grounds...we spent most of our time chilling on one of many platforms relaxing and jumping off the cliffs when we got too hot..the water is simply amazing...no hagglers there so less stress and we slept great...beds very comfy, clean simple room with a small flat screen with better cable than back home, lol...Amazing porch to chill out on with a great view of the ocean and to watch the most incredible sunsets and star gaze..we saw quite a few shooting stars there...Breakfast and coffee were great as well.. We went to the beach a couple times to meet up with friends but were happy to retreat back to HSH by the end of the day...Met quite a few lovely locals up on the west end...Their motto was RESPECT EVERYTIME!!! The location of HSH is fantastic really, we walked most of the time or biked everywhere...Their is a little convienant store L and M when u make a right which had everything u want or need, and we often grabbed a couple red stripes and chilled at the table outside of it and chatted up with some locals and had some laughs...We ate at Three Dives Down a few times, best Jerk on the west end and if you havent been yet u should...Also a great little spot for a couple drinks is Spyda's bar...Big up Spyda and Anita the bartender...we had some great times with you all!! We also ate at The Rockhouse which has a free shuttle that will pick u up and bring you there...wow what a cool spot with its restaurant over top of the water and great food thats very resonably priced...Pewees bar is another cool spot on the cliffs close to HSH to the right and Sips and Bites offered great food at extremely low prices...A true local restaurant right next to The Rockhouse...Anyways, i could go on but will cut it short...Amazing spot with beauty and traquility that we needed, and its no wonder its called HOME SWEET HOME!!! Big up Dino, Martine, Petal, Terry and Nadine at HSH..Thanks for everything..Charlie we will meet someday!! One Love and RESPECT EVERYTIME from us in Canada!!

Thank you Charlie and all the staff for a wonderful stay! This was our first time in both Jamaica and Negril, and we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. Home Sweet Home, on the "West End" of town, is the perfect calm oasis away from the hustle and bustle of Seven Mile Beach. We were upgraded to the Cliff Edge Suite, which had, hands down, the most incredible views of sunsets--right from our balcony!

Aside from the incredible views and warm hospitality, we enjoyed the delicious food specially prepared by Home Sweet Home's chef. The mango garlic shrimp, coconut shrimp, and jerk chicken were all delicious. Breakfast--both traditional Jamaican food as well as American food--was also a much-enjoyed and anticipated meal each day. Try the johnny cakes--they are delicious.

If you like to snorkel, as we do, you can jump in each morning right from the hotel--there are several sundecks (with an unobstructed view of nothing but the beautiful Caribbean) and a staircase leading down to the water. In the mornings the sea was calm and clear--perfect for viewing fish and other marine life. There were lounge chairs on the sun deck and by the pool for relaxing, and beautiful Seven Mile beach is a 5-10 minute taxi ride away.

In short: If you are looking for a calm and relaxing place to stay with great views, friendly staff, and a laid-back ambiance, Home Sweet Home is a great choice. We are already planning our next trip back (vacation time permitting!).

First of all, some background: This was our first time in Jamaica. I have limited travel experience, but my girlfriend has traveled all over the world, including parts of the Caribbean. I am in law school and my girlfriend is starting her career as a teacher so we didn’t have unlimited money to spend on our vacation.
Where to stay in Negril: No matter where what hotel you stay at, stay on the cliffs. When we were planning our vacation I looked into nearly every hotel in Negril. We went back and forth about where to stay, but we decided on the cliffs and we were beyond content with our decision. We visited the beach on most days and loved it; however, we also liked being able o return to the peace and quiet of Home Sweet Home. The beach is wonderful—one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. There are plenty of bars to stop for a red stripe and enjoy the view of the azure water from the comfort of a lounge chair. It is, however, fairly crowed and lined with hotels and resorts. In other words, the beach is busy. The locals are keen on attempting to sell you everything from crafts to jet ski rides. Almost all are friendly, but the repeated solicitations grow old. Additionally, the beach can be loud and we heard it can get louder at night depending on where you are on the beach. We enjoyed our visits to the beach, but by the mid afternoon we were ready to return to Home Sweet Home.
Experience at HSH: We loved it. HSH is a quiet hotel where you can relax and feel, as the name suggests, at home. The location on the cliffs is wonderful. We jumped in the water and went snorkeling almost every morning. The sunsets are also breathtaking. Every night we would sit on our balcony with a glass of rum and watch the sunset—life just can’t get much better. Most the booze cruises form the resorts on the beach would sail to right in front of HSH to watch the sunset. The staff was also great. Charlie was more than accommodating and friendly. We actually have plans to grab a drink when he visits Seattle. Terry the chef, beyond being an excellent cook, is extremely friendly. When I said that I had an interest in cooking, she invited me back to the kitchen to teach me the basics of Jamaican cuisine. The rooms, while not fancy, were extremely comfortable.
Why the negative reviews: If you are as obsessive as I am about finding the perfect place to stay, any negative reviews probably give you pause. After reading these reviews, I think they are mostly the result of varying expectations. HSH is not a resort where the staff dotes on you or where rooms look like they are from a five star resort. It is a comfortable, safe (we never had any concerns) and relaxing place in a wonderful location. Come here if you don’t mind some chipped paint and painted over light switches.
Overall: Amazing vacation and a great place to say.
