Famous Vincent Glass Bottom Boats
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 2 September 2012

We made arrangements on the morning of our snorkeling trip. Our guide picked us up from the cliffs of the Blue Cave Castle and returned us there. Thia was the first time our family had ever done anything like this. He made this such a wonderful experience taking us all over and making sure everyone was safe . He advised on what was safe to touch and get close to and what to keep a distance from. He caught a puffer fish in his hand. He picked some of the sea life and gave us an opportunity to to do so as well. My guess is that this man has taken too many people to count on similar excursions but he took us around with the enthusiasm of someone who wanted us to have the best experience and we did.

I've been on so many snorkeling cruised before at various islands but this was the best tour ever because Vincent knew exactly where the interesting marine life is and dives down to pick up things for you to hold.

There were 4 other people on the boat with us and it only cost $60 for the 3 of us, 2 adults one child. I actually didnt even expect to go snorkeling that day. We stayed on the beach and took a taxi to xtabi to snorkel the caves. Famous Vincent passed by on the way to the reef and asked us if we wanted to go. We decided to go with the next tour as we wanted to snorkel the cliffs and eat lunch first. It started pouring 30min before our agreed meeting time, thank god it stopped just before he came by again to pick us up.

We had gone with Captain Rhondal's glassbottom cruise the day before which was a huge disappointment. They took us to the main reef by booby cay and just told us to swim around by ourselves while the 2 guys sit on the boat. The owner?, henry, also tried to cheat us by charging us $90 instead of the $75 we had agreed on. Snorkeling with famous vincent was a completely different experience. He offered us a discount for our 10yr old son($10 instead of $25) without us even having to ask.

The sandy key reef he took us to is so much healthier than the booby cay reef We had our own gear but took some of their noodles(really needed to be replaced!). Vincent took us on a 45min guided tour of the reef. We held sea urchins, sea cucumber, and starfish. We saw squirrefish, yellowtail damselfish, parrotfish, blue tangs, yellow stingrays, a huge southern stingray, reef squid, trumpetfish, etc. It started raining again midway but we didnt care, haha. They even dropped us off at our hotel on the beach!

Vincent is a fantastic boat captain and snorkel guide. During our week-long stay, we went out 3 seperate mornings for great swimming and underwater sightseeing. Vincent is an expert guide and knows his reef. He also coaches 1st timers like a pro with patience and instilling confidence. I'm a retired career Navy Diver, but I listened to his brief about conservation (hands off the reef) every time I went. I brought my own gear, but didn't need to. All his equipment is in good order, and he has fins for every size foot. He's successful for a reason - book with enthusiasm! Take your own water/snacks/beer.

Our resort the Moon Dance Cliffs set up a snorkeling for us. If you want to go snorkeling in Negril you have to go out with Vincent.

Some of our friends who previously went snorkeling with Vincent had the luxury of being picked up right at our resort (Moon Dance Cliffs). The water was very rough the day we went so this was not an option. So we headed into town and met Vincent and his crew there.

We got loaded on the boat and Vincent sent us out with one of his guys to go snorkeling. I wish I could remember his name but his was great. The cost for the two of us was $50 and we were the only ones so it was like a private tour. It took about 30 minutes to get out to the spot we would go snorkeling. We were fitted for masks and flippers and told to get in the water. Once in the water and after some simple instructions we were given some food to feed the fish and they eat it right out of your hands. This was very cool.

Once we were both comfortable in the water we started out along the reefs. I consider myself a strong swimmer but after spending 45 minutes to an hour in the water you are pretty tired. If you don’t feel you are a strong swimmer they have vests for you to wear.

Once we started off he would dive down and pick things up for us to touch such as urchins, sea cucumbers, puffer fish, and star fish. He told us anything he touches we can touch and told us what to avoid touching.

As we swam around we saw all kinds of things such as lobster, octopus, eels, barracuda, sting rays, and a sea turtle. He pointed things out and told us what different things are. We spent a good 45 minutes in the water swimming in a big circle and coming right back to the boat. Where we snorkeled there was no other boats around and we passed other spots that had numerous people in the water snorkeling. We had the entire area to ourselves and he took very good care of us and helped by dragging my wife around by the hand the entire time because she was not a strong swimmer.

If you are going you have to find Vincent. This truly was a great experience.

Famous Vincent is more than just a sea faring man, unknown to most, he was born with gills. Fluent in all the major fish languages, he can communicate with turtles, manta rays, octopuses and most marine life. He is currently learning the complicated art of the whales’ songs. With a lifetime of knowledge, more experience than Poseidon and a sea of respect for the ocean Famous Vincent would be cooler than aquaman, if aquaman was cool.
He knows the waters from Negril to Cuba.
Go early in da morning for best snorkeling and a more private excursion. If you are in a group let Vincent lead the way, fan out behind him, stay close and keep your eyes open. He will call out to various aquatic life to remain calm, it’s Famous Vincent he’ll shout and then they all chill and pose for photos. It’s pretty magical stuff; it reminds me of that man-made reef at SeaWorld, you know the one in the big glass aquarium with that depressed turtle in it.
