Just back form Riu Tropical Palace. We stayed here for 14 days in June and we loved it!

BEACH: WAW… The beach is awesome and the ocean is so clear. Azure blue sea. (The water is very warm by the way) And great sunset views

FOOD: Breakfast: Plentiful: I liked the fresh fruit juices and the smoothies. Champagne available for breakfast. Most nights we ate at the buffet, we always sat outdoors. The food was very good. A wide choice, so wide, I had difficulties in deciding what to choose :-) We ate 4 times in the specialty restaurants: once in the Japanese, once in the steakhouse (very nice scenery: is outdoors and you can see the sunset if you choose the 6.30PM shift) and twice in the Krystal (my favourite, certainly the chocolate dessert!). Re the reservation system: to be honest, we never had to queue. We saw the long row before 8AM. But you could make a reservation between 8 AM and 10 AM. And we always went just before 9 AM, and then there where no other people. And still we always could make a reservation, because they still had room in the different specialty restaurants.

ROOM: We where in building 6 and had an ocean view room: very spacious and no problem with AC.

WEATHER: First week was a bit cloudier: mornings where OK but a bit before noon the clouds came in and then it rained for 1-2 hours. Most evenings where back OK. The second week was much better, sunny all day long, and very few clouds.

PEOPLE: The staff was by far the friendliest I have encountered. They are enjoying their work and are really interested in how you are.

Let me start by saying we have stayed here over a dozen times since this hotel opened so we are biased to be sure.We love the place.
We have been going to JA since 1975 and have a good knowlege of the area and JA in general. That being said , here is what we noticed on this trip.

Transfer:
We took a priviate driver we have used many times before and beat the bus by 90 minutes to the hotel.(if you'd like a name and number contact me through the board)

Check -in:
Went very smooth and we got the room we asked for in # 4 ground floor, ocean front in 5 min. It would have been quicker but we had to chat with the front desk clerks Maya and Elaine...lol

Room:
The room was spotless through out and maid service was excellent.
Bar re-fills were done as required, no problem.

Beach:
The main reason we go here so much, great calm water beach, can't be beat.

Staff:
The staff are the best for sure.Service was top notch.
It is very slow at this time of year and they fell over each other to help and serve you.
And did it with warmth and a smile.
To mention a few:
Bartenders Grant , Kian, Craig , Crazy Diane of course.
Dining Room Staff , The manager Burrell he's the mon..also Diane ,Abby,Nichole,Peter to name a few.
And of course the GM , Steve Padley who never stopped asking if we needed anything at all.

Food:
The food was very good for a buffet , plenty to chose from for us.
The hotel has really good equipment so the hot food was hot and the cold was cold.
The dining area was spotless and that's tuff to do with some of the people we saw eating there. Some folks are really not to respectful of others and the staff at these resorts.
We ate at the steak house one night and it was very good , cooked just right for us.
Not really top quality steaks (Sirlion Tips) but very good.

Bugs:
They are fogging the place everyday and it seemed to work wonders, we got very few Skeeter bites and only one sand flea bite all week.
Seen two grasshoppers and a few ants on the patio but nothing else.

Over All;
Excellent trip and wonedrfull staff, we'll be back ASAP and hopefully before April/10

Advise:
Don't be too pushy and show some respect , you get some respect back.
Don't be like the women we seen yelling at the lifeguard to spread her towel on her chair
NOW......it's not his job.

If you have any questions please contact me through the board and I'll pass along any inside info I have.

My wife and I travelled to the Riu Palace for a week after a last minute booking through First Choice from Birmingham airport UK. We paid £740 each all in.

Having stayed at Riu's in Dom Rep and Cancun we expected the usual high standard, and we got it. As the hotel was a Palace in stead of the ClubHotels we were used to there was all inclusive room service and a few other extras.

The ariport was a knightmare, queing for security as the hostage crisis had only just finished. The transfer took 3 hours due to Montego Bay traffic, although only one and a half on the return. Again, on return the airport was a knightmare, lots of waiting around, took about 3 hours to get into departures, not much time for shopping at all.

The staff were by far the friendliest I have encountered, the bar staff especially, they actually looked like they enjoyed their jobs and your company. There was a massive choice of drinks, anything you can imagine, it was available.

The beach was great, very tidy, and great sunset views, never short of loungers.

Food in the buffet was so good we only ate a la carte once. Usual Riu stuff, plenty of premium foods, steak, shrimp etc. Massive variety. Champagne available for breakfast.

Rooms the best I've been in. Minibar well stocked with water, Red Stripe and mixers for the Rum, Whisky and Vodka on wall optics.

The hotel in general was very tidy.

You can walk down the beach both ways, one way is the Riu Negril, in which you can use all the facilities, however, they can not use the Palace.

There were activities on throughout the day, incuding beach volleyball, football etc.

Evening entertainment was watchable, the African and Grease nights were good.

All in all the best accomodation I've stayed at.

We just returned home from another trip to the RIU Tropical Bay. It was a little different this time. We were able to get into three of the four restaurants for dinner-we had great meals. We also joined in activities such as ocean aerobics, pool games, beach party at night, all the shows, ping pong and the spa. We did a snorkeling excursion, wouldn't recommend that at all. Both times we did excursions snorkeling the water were too rough.

Places to go out: Margartaville, Rick's Cafe for the sunset, the Jungle (nightclub) and also the nightclub in the other RIU down the street is included in our price so we went there too. Again, we loved the people.

We are definitely going back. This time to their sister hotel the RIU Club down the street. Also, this trip we needed bug spray but still, all-in-all, so much fun!

I did way too much research and Trip Advisor stalking before I left....The place is amazing. The rooms are immaculate...the beach is breathtaking...the food was aplentyt...the restaurants were great (we only ate at Krystal and the Steakhouse) the staff is amazing, as well as most of the Jamaican people.
We were first in a back building (2), and it didn't have a "king" bed....they moved us to 6301 the next day which was a GREAT location. The room in building 2 was nothing to complain about either, but we were on our honeymoon and Sandra (the BEST) at the front desk got us moved.
We did the Sunset Cruise to Rick's through Wild Thing...this is my only minor complaint. The staff was a little uninterested.
We went to YS Falls (AMMMMMMAZING) with Talk of the Town tours....I don't have enough words to express how great they are...Our driver was Deon...SO worth the personalization.
Feel free to send any questions....and YES...bring a cheap raft and an insulated large cup!
