We returned for our 7th visit to Sandals Negril 12/05 through 12/12/13. They had just opened 1/2 of the Paradise Building the evening before our arrival. We were booked in a Conscierge Beach Front Walkout room so we were pleased when we were taken to one of the new rooms. The rooms in the Paradise building have been enlarged, taking what was previously the balcony and making it part of the room. For the 2nd and 3rd stories this means NO balconies. They now have "French balconies" which is about 6" of space after you open the sliders. For the walk-out rooms it means no outdoor space at all. We found this to be the most disappointing feature of the remodel as we enjoy sitting outside for coffee in the morning, champagne & sunsets in the evening. This option is gone. You can open your slider and there is a table & chairs inside the room but it's just not the same. Plus you have to fight the lonely peacock and cats who want to come in....! Our personal opinion is we would rather have less room space and still have the outdoor space. We stayed in room 5112. No place to hang wet swimsuits either.

Room service has been changed from 24 hours to 07:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Sandals Negril has a new Executive Chef who we believe has upped the menus quite a bit. Bayside's French menu was excellent. Also having the Sundowner open for lunch was a great option besides the buffett, grill & pizza. The lunch menu @ Sundowner included shrimp/crab quesadillas which are to die for!

We've always loved Sandals Negril and will definitely return. Just disappointed in no outdoor space on the walkout rooms.....major error IMO. Maybe next time Sandals does a major remodel they should possibly get input from a panel of returning guests or something to see what's important to have/not have in a room.

As a side note, we had already decided that if construction noise was an issue we would ask to be moved to another resort. They were working on the 2nd half of the Paradise block and other than the workers being there, we weren't bothered at all by any noise.

"Not so great was our first 10 minutes in the resort. Arrived after being up for over 18 hours to get there - 5 hour flight followed by 2 hours on the road (arrived during rush hour in Jamaica). We get out of the bus at 8:00 pm and walk into reception. Never having been to a Sandals before, we were underwhelmed by the greeting we got from Nathalie at the front desk. We were not told anything other than to take a seat. Take a seat?? WTF. Apparently the process is to take a seat and then a bellboy will take you to your room but we were not told that...just take a seat. Some explanation of the procedure would have been called for. 10 mintues later a bellboy came and took us to our room. We were not told anything else (ie: that there were orientation sessions twice a day). We did not get the resort's Daily Breeze newsletter until we had been there for two days. Oh, we were not in a butler suite but had apparently been upgraded to a concierge room - not that anyone ever told us what that meant either.

After our front desk experience, I was wondering what all the hype about Sandals could possibly be about but we soon found out. I would equate Sandals to Westjet (Canadians will understand this reference). Almost every staff person after that would ask us our names and would use our names whenever they saw us again for the rest of the week we were there.

Above and beyond from me goes to Natalie in the Gift Shop. I asked if they carried banana chips which apparently Sandals does not carry. The next day Natalie had gone out after her 12 hour shift and got me two bags of banana chips. Wow. Thanks Natalie

Kimonos and Italian restaurants require reservations. We ate at both. The Italian restaurant is set on the edge of the beach and our 6:00 PM reservation meant we got to enjoy the glorious sunset during our dinner. The restaurant manager and head chef/sous chef came by to make sure everything was perfect. Nice touch guys. Kimonos Japanese is teppenyaki style (they cook it on the grill in front of you). You get served everything on the menu so you better bring your appetite cuz we had to roll out of there. I have had Japanese food in the Caribbean before and was always disappointed, but not here. It was spot on.

We were in Jamaica for the Raggae Marathon. We had to be on the road at 4:00 am to get to the start line on time. The hotel did put out some food and water before 4:00 am for the runners but it was not anything a runner would eat right before a run. Suggestion for next year: put out bananas and yogurt.

Thangeta the photographer was my favorite. Sandals has a whole team of photographers and take great shots. You only have to buy the ones you want and dont have to pay when they come around.

Smiley and Ricki on the snorkel boat were very entertaining and took great shots underwater as well. Security guard, Tracey (I think that was her name) is not actually a Sandals employee but she was the friendliest person I met at the resort. She was very helpful with giving me info about the resort before I found out there was an orientation tour.

Marveth at the excursion desk helped to arrange our tours. We wanted to do the bamboo trip on the Martha Brae river but no one else was going and we did not want to pay for a special trip by ourselves. We told her what days we had free and she arranged a trip for us with another couple before we left. Thank you Marveth.

Our housekeeper Karleen was like an invisible elf. We only actually saw her on our first day and our last day. We would come back from being out all day and magically our room was clean or our bed was turned down every day. Tons of towels and not a speck of dust anywhere.

Suggestions for Sandals Negril: Get banana chips in the store, put out bananas and yogurt on race day next year, get reception to be more informative when people check in if they dont have a butler, be more diligent about getting the Daily Breeze to rooms every day. Only reason I dont give the location a higher rating is that Negril is so far away from everything we wanted to see. We chose it for the location near the Start/Finish of the marathon"

My husband and I just spent our honeymoon at Sandal's Negril, Jamaica. Let me start off by saying the staff was great ( Smiley, TG, Dale-the photographers especially). The weather and food were great and the excursions were amazing and well worth the money....BUT....our room was RIGHT NEXT TO CONSTRUCTION, so we heard a jack hammer, saws, slamming of objects, nails being hit OVER and OVER, EXTREMEMLY LOUD BANGING constantly, on our last day our water was turned off in the room for almost an hour ( not that big of a deal, but we had dinner reservations and both needed to shower in time)...we had a Honeymoon Concierge Beachfront Walkout room, thinking we would wake up and walkout to the beach and lay down and relax, because of the insane amount of construction noise, we spent most of our days at the pool instead.

Room Tip: Just check to make sure you are NOT near construction, the noise is constant and unbearable.

Thank you for your review of our resort. We're happy to read that you enjoyed your honeymoon, especially thanks to the genuine hospitality of our staff.

One of our biggest goals is that our guests all have a relaxing vacation with no inconveniences. I know that is always a bit difficult when there are renovations taking place but we try our best to make provisions to ease the tension. Therefore, we are truly sorry for your experience.

We hope next year you will visit again and experience our amazing upgrades or perhaps visit one of our other stellar properties.

Happy Travels!

This was our second time to Sandals Negril and our 5th time to a Sandals resort. I wouldn't say Negril is the nicest of all the Sandals compounds, but I still love it!! The resort is relatively small and has an awesome homey feel to it, however it is still big enough to have several different parts. One side of the resort is very romantic and quite for those that want that, and then the other side has tons of energy and games for those couples who want that, my wife and I are of the latter. The staff is full of energy and very accomodating, and the food is pretty good too. My wife and I are defiently not "foodies", but we do eat our a lot at home, so it is pretty tough for an all inclusive resort to keep up with our high excpectations, but Sandals does do a good job. I am never left hungry that is for sure, but I have also never said WOW that is the greatest meal ever.
This past November we were upgraded for free into the Butler Swim up Suites. I would say the nicest rooms on the resort. Each room is huge and walks right out into a crystal river only steps from the beach. So awesome!
However, I don't think I would pay the extra for a butler, as I didn't really think they did that much for us, after all, it is almost double to have a butler and those rooms.
All in all, I highly recomend this resort to anyone. Its safe, clean, and tons of fun. What more would you want on a vacation.

Room Tip: A lot of the resort is under renovations, so not tons to choose from, but we love the beach walkouts...

This was our first time experiencing a Sandals resort. The suite we booked was in a wing being renovated, so we were upgraded to a two floor Honeymoon Suite with Butler service. Our Butlers, Basil and Daron were amazing. Very professional and personable. We met many other visitors and made numerous new friends, and even attended two weddings. The suite was wonderful, with a large balcony overlooking the Caribbean, no more that a hundred feet from the water. The proximity to the ocean has to be a major selling point of this resort. The maintanance crews do a great job on grounds upkeep. We ate at all but one of the restaurants, and must say the food left something to be desired. Not that it was bad, but we felt it was not up to par with a five star resort. For the most part we thought the staff was wonderful. Always cheerful and friendly. We did feel a couple of the male bartenders in the main bar could use more training. Several times a client would have to explain to them how to mix a fairly common drink, like a Planters Punch or a Long Island Ice Tea. The bar did not stock limes, so something like a Cuba Libre was out of the question, which is odd for a place that prides itself on its Rum. The only beer available is the local Red Stripe. Also the service at the main bar was less than stellar. Very slow. After 8 days the breakfast buffett started to get a little boring, although Kendra, Pauline and Ashedee made the breakfasts memorable with their beautiful smiles and morning welcomes. We weren't bothered that much by the road noise, that others have mentioned, although the constant constuction sounds did get a bit wearing at times. The 'higglers' walking the beach, trying to sell you everything from jewelry, to lobsters, to shells and 'smoke' were annoying, although my wife doesn't feel that way. She felt they added to the local color. We spent the great majority of our time at the beach enjoying the warm waters of the Caribbean and the gentle breezes. The main pool and pool bar gets very loud with the constant entertaining, games and blaring techno-pop music. It's Jamaica. Play some classic reggae or beach type music at listenable levels. The pool sound system could be improved. In the main bar, which adjoins the main pool, you're hearing both the main sound system and the pool system so it's very disconcerting.

Great weather and beach! Thanks to the concierge team, we felt we had someone to call when we had some challenges. We were three couples, travelling between two Sandals resorts for the week. SHAHAY and Donavan, Nadine and another lady just back recently maybe Connie Lee? .....we're very helpful to getting us settled in a timely manner when checkin was a little chaotic because of rooms not ready and one couple got a room they didn't order but ....it did get sorted out just in time for us to get to the catamaran trip out to sea, which was a blast with the crew. Thanks Shahay! The crew on the catamaran were very professional and very nice and super fun, including the photographers. We brought some Christmas light up accessories which everyone had fun with. We visited Rick's cafe and Margaritaville on the trip. Got an unexpected call from an employee from Exuma, Georgette, who we love, she sent a message through the photo manager,to say hi to us when she found out we were here. Our room was amazing, brand new renovation which was fresh and unexpected since a lot of sandals are looking dated. Bad part was we also didn't expect construction on the property in the rest of our building. I feel they should let us know and let us decide when your spending that kind of money. Booked restaurants right away because of lack of availability in our experience at any sandals. We were originally told that everything was booked up with no availability......again we were not surprised but a little fed up with having to push them to look again, and then we were booked in for the restaurants.......what do you know! All Sandals definitely need to improve that process because you can't book before you get there and not even when you do get there. Beautiful fire pits seating areas on the property. Nice sandy beaches but cheap lawn chairs that fold up on you, some swimming areas are shallow and after a few feet in, the ground is shallow and murky. Food was ok, pizza is way better at sandals Montego Bay and Royal, it's hard to judge the food and drinks because four out of six of us weren't feeling very well by the end so I didn't eat or drink much after the first day or so, could have been anything, water, bottles at bar, the food. Met the head chef who cares and seems like a great guy, It all tasted fine, so not sure why. Septic and water issues a few days by the main pool and beach, smell in some areas, pool bathrooms were not working and no water in our room or spa to have a shower for dinner. Good massages at the spa but the Air conditioning wasn't working. Too expensive for a holiday that should have gone a little smoother! Guys golfed in nearby golf, that had fun and enjoyed the caddys. Course isn't professional but you get out. Overall, it's a nice place, staff amazing, new rooms are incredible, we had a walkout and was conveniently located with our friends beside us but there are noisy carts going up and down the hallway throughout the night. I think I would recommend trying it.

Room Tip: Walkout room was all brand new which was beautiful in the Paradise Building. If I go again , I woul...

First time in Jamaica for myself & my wife and first experience of Sandals.
The thing that makes this place tick is the service. Having stayed at so many hotels across the Caribbean and at times being subjected to poor service! it was especially uplifting to be treated by genuine, friendly staff who looked like they too were happy to be there? At no time were we felt wanting and credit must go to the management for creating such a commendable ambiance.
The room we stayed in was compact and functional and provided us with all we required. It was serviced very well and the turn down every evening is always a nice touch. The restaurants are well maintained and provided variation for most of our culinary needs. We attended every restaurant and had particular liking for the Italian. Having dined besides the sea in expensive restaurants in Barbados we found this one matched every facet that they give and more. The cooking is simply divine. If you head to this resort make sure you attend. The pool was adequate without being startling and the 'Playmaker' team were regularly on hand and livening up proceedings. The swim up bar was very well attended and stocked as were all the bars. A real pleasure to be served so quickly and with a smile at ALL times. The beach provides ample room for resting up through the day and once again the service is regular and friendly. My wife very much enjoyed the spa and gave it a five star rating. The journey to and from the Airport is quite long and if taken during darkness can be a little tiring after a long flight. However, on the plus side it was great to see Jamaica on the way back. There were not many visitors from the UK in house but that in itself mattered not. The resident clientele were in the main from USA & Canada and the few people we met were simply wonderful and a pleasure to speak with. Would we return? I think we probably would. Did we buy into the Sandals experience? Yes. It was a lovely relaxing week spent in the company of very decent people, both visiting and from the Island itself. I believe!

Room Tip: We stayed on a top floor which was easily reached and in a nice part of the complex adjacent to the...
