“Third visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 June 2014

This was our third visit to sandals Negril. We hadn't been anywhere else, we have always had a good vacation here. We booked a 2nd floor room in the Sundowner. The same as the prior two years. Last year we were upgraded to a swim out suite as a surprise.

Good points - fantastic facial at the Red Lane Spa as well as our couples massage.
Great butlers - Neisha and Myron, as last year. Great food, great time at all the restaurants. Even visited the italian restaurant twice and upgraded our wine selection 4 times; which I now regret after seeing how high the mark up was.....yes, buyer's remorse.....

Had a great time snorkeling, didn't do any excursions this year, wanted to just relax

Met several wonderful couples. We have to give strong marks for all the staff involved, except the gift shop. Everyone, including the maids, groundskeepers .waiters/waitresses, bartenders.....everyone will make eye contact and speak....something we do not see in the U.S. Customer service is very important and Sandals Negril nails it without a doubt!

Couple of BUTS......the ski boat was out of commission for the majority of our trip, we do like to ski and tube. We wish the swimming areas of the beach could be cleaned out of the seaweed to make it more enjoyable. Side note, husband stepped on a sea urchin.....he saw the nurse on duty and she promptly called the doctor to remove the stingers. It was costly, but the quick and on site medical attention is commendable.

I too wish I had written down everyone's name who we interacted with to give them due mention....Kendra and the morning staff at the buffet was always welcoming. There were staff members we recognized and those who recognized us from the prior two years....that was very special.

Two disappointments....since Sandals ask if we were celebrating a special date, we were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary (October), however, we did not have anything special done. Some couples received cakes or decorated door mats..... We also did not receive an upgrade. After our upgrade from last year, we assumed we would have one celebrating our anniversary. Even though our anniversary was 4 months away, we are unable to travel at that time and planned to celebrate in Negril.

Our room was very nice, great air condition, which is important! I wish I knew the name of the lady who cleaned our room, she did a wonderful job! We did rebook for next year....we love the customer service

We were married June 7 at Sandals our visit was perfect, the wedding, the stay at Sandals and Jamaica. The staff made our week perfect, from Christopher who was first person who greeted us once arriving, to Kendra who made breakfast a treat each day, Giselle who made our wedding simply perfect, Willie the DJ who unknowingly sang our wedding song out last night at the resort, to our photographer to our personal favorite BIG PAPA each member of staff said hello and made us feel at home. We can not wait to visit again and again. The food, the service, the food and the fun is not to be missed!

My wife and I planned a 5-night stay at Sandals and 3 nights on the west end. The first 5 nights were spent at Sandals.

Shuttle:
The shuttle from Sangsters airport to Sandals was fine. The drive took about 1 ½ hours but worth the drive to spend the week in Negril. We actually like the drive because it gives us an opportunity to see small towns on the way to Negril.

Check-in:
Check was no problem. We were escorted to the 2nd level club sandals private check-in, along with the others passengers. They offered us a drink as we completed our check-in process. After everyone was checked in, one of the club sandals representative escorted us to the main lobby area and talked about the surrounding area. We broke off and a Club Sandals rep escorted those going to the Paradise building to our rooms.

Room:
We stayed in the newly renovated paradise building (see video link below). The room was very nice exempt the paradise rooms no longer have a balcony. We heard the balconies would be put back it in the near future. The bathroom was nice, but a little on the small side. The bedroom and sitting area was very nice and roomy. The alarm clock radio has a iPhone 5 docking station. The mini bar was great. Stocked with waters, juices, sodas, red stripe, red, white wine and champagne daily. Our room number was 5326 (3rd floor) and it was closest to the beach on the very front part of the paradise building. We would have considered the walkout if we could lock and unlock the door from outside the walkout. But you can’t. So we booked the higher floor room, which has more privacy. A balcony is a big deal to us. But we knew going in the rooms didn’t have a balcony.

Food:
We really enjoyed the jerk pizza at Bella Napoli. Breakfast was very nice at Barefoot and room service. We did like the food (lunch & dinner) but we thought it was average at best. I hate to say it but we thought Couples and Secrets had better food. My wife thought Cucina Romana had the best food.

Watersports:
Awesome! My wife has advanced scuba certifications. I went with her in the past but I’m not certified. I took the opportunity to get my 40 feet PADI certification during the trip. Wayne was my instructor and he was excellent. I can’t say enough good things about him. The scuba team was great overall. Regina at the scuba hut was helpful and fun. We also signed up for the snorkel trip. That was awesome as well. We saw a nurse shark, which was very cool. Smiley is just a great guy and has a lot of fun. He’s on the scuba boat, snorkeling boat and also takes pictures on the resort at night. Very hard worker! They also have paddle-boarding, kayaks, tubing, sailing. Soooo much.

Beach:
Great beach. The water did have a decent amount of seaweed. But that’s nature and no reflection on Sandals. If you’re a little freaked out about it, wear water shoes. No biggie. Its 7-mile beach what more can I say?

Entertainment:
Entertainment was okay. We went to the beach party and it was okay. We saw the silver bird band and we always like to see them. The piano bar was a lot of fun. Not great entertainment but it was just okay.

Bars:
They have very nice bars. We loved the beach bar/bistro bar. We met Monique who is in training. She was so much fun. We really enjoyed talking to her and hope she will becomes full time. Tracia was very nice to talk to and kept us going everyday. Our favorite bartender was Michael at the piano bar and he also worked at the main lobby bar. What a fun and approachable guy. He helped make our trip.

Private Cabana Rental:
We’re so glad we booked this. After three days it was nice to have some private time overlooking the water. Omar took care of us all day. He never let our drinks go empty and brought us food and shared his knowledge with us. We’ll miss him.

Would we stay again?
Hard question. We had a great time. But we owe to ourselves to evaluate other resorts such as our previous stays at CSA and Secrets. We would need to determine if the extra $500-600 would be worth another stay compared to other places. My first thought would be to stay at one of the other places. Just as good if not better but for less money. But we would be completely open to it. We had a great time. The service was 1st class and we sure don’t regret staying at Sandals Negril.

Lastly:
Bring small bills for tipping if you choice but not required at all. Bring your own snorkeling gear if you have them, if not they have them for you to use. Make sure to bring enough sunscreen. A small beach bag would be nice. We brought local treats to share with the staff. And have fun!!!

Room Tip: Paradise building - non walk out may be the best option since you can’t lock and unlock the door fro...

My husband and I vacationed here with another couple. We were greeted by several members of the breakfast staff during our stay. Kendra, Shavon, Paulene, Alicia, and Julene always had a warm smile for us and took care of our every need. Peta-Gay responded immediately to a request for mangoes that were not on the buffet and brought them directly to our room. It really felt like family there. We also visited the grill and enjoyed the jerk chicken prepared by Big Sho and Sanjae. Big Sho even shared his recipe with us.
Additionally, we also enjoyed the activities provided by the Playmakers. Aminah is very personable and made all of the events fun. We were able to work off some of our calories consumed by participating in power walks, aquacize, Jamaican dance, gym and other activities. Ian, Everton, O'Shayne, Aminah, Vanessa, and Laurie led these events.
We had the butler elite service for the first time and it was an awesome experience. Our butlers Tavia and Theda helped us celebrate our anniversary and made it special. Each morning, they reserved our beach chairs, decorated our bed in the evening, and ordered flowers for my husband. They were at our beck and call. The other couple traveling with us also had the butler elite service and were taken care of by Basil and Dwayne. They had no problem making us feel comfortable and meeting our needs, as well. It was almost like we had 4 butlers!
What I like most about the resort is that they are really consumed with making sure you are having a great time and are willing to go out of their way to ensure you keep a smile on your face. There is always something for you to do and you really do not have to leave the resort. The food is great and the people are all very personable. You can not lose adding this vacation to your vacation bucket list. Steven and Marcie-Orlando, FL

My wife and I just spent our 10 year anniversary at Sandals Negril and had a great time! We had no fear booking the 7 night vacation based off our honeymoon at a Sandals in Ocho Rios.

The Good:
Friendly Staff, Clean and updated facilities, Great food and drinks, Awesome scuba diving program, The attention to even the smallest details was noticed and appreciated!

The Bad:
The 1.5 hour transportation to and from the airport. The taxi driver to the resort seemed very tired, so much so that I felt the need to keep a conversation going to make sure he stayed awake. The taxi driver from the resort was extremely aggressive and took too many risky passes on the highway.
Too many solicitors on the resort. We were asked five times in a two hour period if we wanted a "good smoke" and unwelcomed approaches by musicians and vendor while trying to relax on the beach. Expected when you wander off the resort, but a bit tacky and annoying on site.

Outstanding Staff:
Kemar: Scuba instructor. Ask for him if you want great instruction and a friendly and entertaining experience on and in the water.
Ian: This waiter stands way out above others for his attention to detail and friendliness.
Glenville: Each time we ordered room service for breakfast Glenville made up the table in our bedroom with flower petals and treated us like royalty. Perfect start to many of our days.
Natalie: Gift shop employee who was super friendly/bubbly.
Shemoy: One of our Concierges. We loved how he always remembered us when we'd see him or speak on the phone.
Smiley: One of the photographers. Super fun guy. His name says it all.

Disappointing Staff:
Christopher: Waiter at Cucina Romana. Poor interaction with us and other costumers. Seemed annoyed we didn't pay for their premier wine and "meowed" at us several times. Yeah, like a cat. Very weird.

Beautiful hotel, not too big and not too small.

The reception is very welcoming, good lounging areas and no bling anywhere. The restaurants were very nice and the beach grill during the day was great, good atmosphere through the day. The beach is gorgeous, crystal clear sandy white beach that seems to never end. You can walk along the beach to the family Beaches hotel and enjoy drinks within your all inclusive.

Nighttime entertainment was good and enjoyed a beach BBQ during the week.

Great stop, great place.
