“See you soon”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 July 2014

We just returned Saturday night from a seven day stay at Sandals Negril. It was our first anniversary and we couldn't think of a better place to spend it. This was our first time staying at a Sandals resort so we didn't know what to expect. We were spoiled from the time we stepped off the van until the time we departed. I would even venture to say, I believe we had the best unobstructed view of the beach and the ocean. We were in the Sundowner building with the swim up. Oh wow is all I can say! If you splurge for the butlers swim up, please see if room 6114 is available with Basil and Daron for your butlers. Every time we thought about something, Basil or Daron was there with it. Top notch service. If you are celebrating something special, opt for the candlelight dinner on the beach, you won't regret it. My husband and I started our anniversary day off with a couples massage, what a treat. From the cleanliness to the friendliness, you won't be disappointed.

Thanks Sandals!!!

I’m not sure our trip could have been any better! The resort is gorgeous (incredible gardens and lovely open air buildings appointed beautifully in dark wood and colorful tile), and there is so much to do! We sailed, snorkeled, swam, sunbathed, walked along the beach, and, of course, ate and drank and ate and drank and ate and drank.

We started diving on our second day and ended up doing both dives every day thereafter because we enjoyed it so much! The reefs may not be world-class, but there are several great dive sites and we saw lots of vibrant coral and sea life (including an 8’ nurse shark!) but what made it truly exceptional was the dive crew. They are so much fun and felt like fast friends. Josh, Emron, Kemar, Sanjay/Cialis, and Philip are great dive masters who are very professional but also laidback. The dive experience couldn’t be much more relaxing – all you do is bring your fins to the boat. They carry everything else for you. The boat docks right next to the beach, and the reefs are only “5-7 Jamaican minutes” away (5 - 15 minutes). We used their equipment, and it all seemed new and in good condition. We also enjoyed having Smiley (photographer) around – he’s just a big kid at heart and you can’t help but smile back when you see his huge grin. But my absolute favorite is Captain Hook (Hopeton McIntosh). I want to be him when I grow up. The man radiates contentment and peace, and when he says, “Love and respect you, divers,” you know it comes from a genuine place.

Like several people have already said, it’s the staff which make this place so special. Everyone is happy and friendly and welcoming. They seem to truly enjoy making you feel special in turn. I could give dozens of “shout-out’s” if I could only remember everyone’s name. Sasha (waitress) made us feel like family from the get-go. Nickisha, Shernett, and Hirfia were also lovely (Sundowner/Barefoot by the Sea); Terrian always took excellent care of us at the Beach Bistro; Lois is fabulous – getting us whatever we needed, whether it was a ride on the Hobie Cat or a coke between dives; Floyd and Nordalee (Sundowner) were sweet; Andrew (bartender) is a doll, I could chat with him for hours; Kendra and Thangefa felt like my sisters; Andrea (spa) is a fabulous masseuse. I hope the staff are treated well because they truly shine as the treasure of this resort.

We stayed in a 2-story loft room which was great – loved the ginormous bed and the full balcony. Our favorite restaurant was the Sundowner (tenderloin and stuffed basa were our favorites); we had Red Stripe-battered fish and onion rings almost every day at the Beach Bistro – the jerk quesadilla is also good; Kimono’s was also excellent (we did the sampler, and everything was delicious). The house drinks are fabulous at every restaurant (grilled pineapple ginger martini at Sundowner is the bomb), and we hit the dessert buffet at Bayside at least 1-2 times a day. We also rotated between the buffet breakfast at Bayside and the a la carte breakfast at Barefoot and thoroughly enjoyed both.

If you walk down the beach, do stop at Dr. Love’s shop. He’s on the way to Beaches, and you have to walk through his home/office because it’s right on the beach. He’s a very peaceful, respectful Rasta dude – completely harmless and not high pressure in the least. Just so you know, he does have lots of wooden intimate “self-portraits”, but it’s all in good fun. If you can, please bring him some food (buy a bag of chips or something at the resort shop) b/c he’s looking awfully skinny. There are also big stretches of undeveloped beach, and the water/beach are better there than at the actual resort.

Our vacation exceeded our high expectations and we can’t wait to return! Thank you to everyone who made our trip so memorable!

We just got home from our honeymoon at Sandals Negril and we loved it! First we arrived at 10 pm at the airport and after customs Sandals employees where waiting on us to welcome us with a big smile and a cold drink. We sat in a nice lounge and sipped our drinks while they got everything sorted out and got our ride pulled up to the door.

Once we arrived at the resort Shemoy greeted us and got us all fixed up and in our rooms in a hurry since it was so late. He was wonderful and had everything we needed that night ready. The next day we went back and found out that our concierge team was Kera and Clive and all I can say is perfect! Kera was attentive, funny, and just so amazing to talk to that you wanted to spend the whole trip just talking to her. We told Kera what we wanted to do while we where there and she made everything happen. Kera and Clive constantly slipped into our room and scattered flowers and decorated and left sweet little snacks and notes for us. Then on Thursday we went on the catamaran cruise which happened to be Kera's day off and we where so happy when we got on the boat and she was there. If Sandals has any good sense they will put her on every cruise that goes out. She gave dance lessons and sang and brought a bunch of strangers together and got them to loosen up and have fun with each other. I'm telling you that lady has a talent with people!

While we where there we ate at every restaurant and while the food is good the portions tend to be tiny but since you can order as many as you want that is easily fixed. The real surprise in the restaurants is the service. The people where so pleasant and helpful. We where lucky to be helped by Ian, Kendra, and Keen who are amazing people and are always right there when you need something.

When walking around the resort the photographers can be EXTREMELY annoying! That being said there is one who was amazing! His name is Smiley and he does all the diving and scuba pictures. He also does the evening pictures on the beach. He never once pestered us to take our pictures he just made sure he was in the right spot to take amazing pictures of us then let us know where to pick them up. I am positive we wouldn't have bought any pictures if it hadn't been for Smiley! We where also lucky enough to get a chance to hang out with him at one of the beach parties and he is great!

We did a lot of things like swimming with dolphins, riding horses, going to the spa, shopping, catamaran cruises to Ricks cafe and Margaritaville, and snorkeling. But THE BEST BY FAR was the scuba diving! First you walk up and Regina is behind the counter with a big smile greeting you by name and ready to help you however she can. Then you have the dive team hollering good morning and asking if you have always been a waterholic! While we where there I got my Advanced Open Water with Emron. If you go to Jamaica and don't go diving with Emron and Captain Macintosh you just wasted a trip to Jamaica. The dive team was the best part of the trip. I dove 15 times including several night dives. Emron was a knowledgable and patent teacher and made sure I enjoyed every minute of every dive. The other Sandals divers that I dove with are Wayne, Josh, Phillip, Kemar, Sanjay, and Smiley on the camera. While I mainly dove with Emron I had the pleasure of going with everyone of these men and everyone do them made the trip. Josh and Phillip trying to keep up with where I'd been and what I'd seen and making sure I got to see something new each time. Wayne and Kemar spending forever to find a nurse shark on my last day because I really wanted to see one. They found a 9 footer. Also while I was there my personnel mask got broke on the boat. It was completely my fault but Sanjay felt so bad he tried to replace it and when I refused he let me borrow his own personnel mask for the rest of the trip. You have to look far and wide to find that kind of care and service. Also each morning I found myself on the boat earlier and earlier just so I could talk to Captain Macintosh (Captain Hook). Not only is he an amazing boat captain he is a wonderful person who is wonderful to visit with. Every dive he goes over safety very thoroughly then greats the returners then makes the new divers feel welcome. He really makes it a group of friends diving together instead of a group of strangers. I know I'm going on a bit but this dive team does such a wonderful job and are so much fun to hang out with its hard not too. We went through under water rooms, saw dolphins, sharks, turtles, lobster, crab, squid, eel, and anything else you can imagine. The dive instructors are always finding cool stuff for you to look at. Emron is extremely talented at finding cool animals for you to look at and I enjoyed his dives the most.

I could tell you Sandals Negril is the best resort ever but I don't know if that's true. But I can tell you the staff IS the best. We will be returning within a year if for no other reason than to see all the friends we made on the staff especially Kera, Smiley, and the entire dive team. We are also talking about taking a few more couples back with us.

What a great resort. From our wedding coordinator Suan, to the photographer Dale, everyone took great care of us. There was always a place to lounge on the beach or at the pool. We could not ask for a better way to start our life together. Thank You Sandals!

We have been to several Sandals and heard so much about this one and the beach. Overall the place was really nice, restaurants were very tastey, landscape was beautiful, the only draw back was the grass in the water, we are beach people, but the grass made it difficult to navigate the water. He people were very friendly especially Kendra, the main dining area hostess.

Room Tip: Rooms at the swim up and penthouse area seemed to be the best if you like a balcony , near the beach...

My wife and I came here on our honeymoon and it was the best experience either of us have ever had. The hotel was amazing and the people and service was even more so. Every morning at the breakfast buffet Kendra would meet us with a warm smile, hug and good morning and hand us a mimosa to have with our breakfast. They were ever smiling and asking how you were and if there was anything they could get for you. Anywhere you were on the resort there was someone to make sure you were ok and had everything you needed. One day I went scuba diving, wife doesn't do that, and she stayed behind on the resort to relax and have drinks. She decided to go paddle boarding but all the paddle boards were out, but Emil one of the water sports instructors asked if she knew how to sail and if she wanted to do that. Well she had not taken a lesson yet which only take place in the morning so he asked if she would like for him to take her out. So while I was scuba diving Emil went out of his way to take her out for an hour and basically give her a tour of the surrounding resorts and island. Also my wife was wanting a conch shell to take home as a souvenir, so he took the time to go diving for one in the ocean and brought it to her all cleaned out later that day at the pool. Definitely above and beyond. As far as my experience diving, I had a great refresher instructor Wayne, and underwater camera man Smiley. The entire dive team is extremely skilled, friendly, and see to it that you have an amazing diving experience. My Wife and I also decided to take a private boat tour while there and Carlton and Big Poppa ensured that we had a great time. Both went out of there way to make sure we consistently had a drink in our hands and gave us a tour of Negril that most do not get, all from the comfort of a boat on the ocean around sunset. Overall we knew from day one that we would be going back to this place. You better believe that when we travel anywhere, if there is a Sandals.....that is where we are staying. The BEST!

Room Tip: If you can spring for club level rooms they are awesome and come with some perks that standard rooms...
