We just returned from a 6 night stay at the Samsara. This was a return visit for us and the room renovations were quite evident. Our room faced West with a view of the ocean and was worth the cost of the upgrade. This hotel is small and provides a relaxing, laid back atmosphere. It is a place without the hustle of the larger resorts.
Check in was smooth and easy. Our room was comfortable with plenty of storage space for two adults with scuba gear in addition to the usual vacation clothes. One downside is that there is not an abundance of electrical outlets in the rooms to plug in chargers for tablets, laptops, etc. Also no outlet in the bathroom which makes using a hair drier in front of a mirror difficult. Housekeeping did a wonderful job of keeping the room clean and fresh towels and a bath mat were delivered daily after the room had been cleaned.
There were plenty of lounge chairs around the pool and on the area overlooking the ocean. so finding a place to relax was never a problem. We did the all inclusive option and the food was good. Selections were limited, but everything was well prepared and you won't go hungry. The restaurant staff was friendly and helpful as was everyone we talked to at the front desk. The front desk staff was very helpful when we had questions and always asked if we needed anything when they saw us in the lobby. The bartenders at the small bar were friendly and efficient. There is no big production entertainment which made meeting and talking to other guests enjoyable. A small Reggae group performed several evenings and that was it for entertainment. Two nights a week dinner is served downstairs next to the bar and you can eat under the stars at tables set overlooking the water.
There is a daily shuttle to Legends which is located on the Beach. The Samsara and Legends have exchange privileges and two nights a week you can take an evening shuttle to Legends and have dinner there. During the day you can be on the beach and enjoy lunch there if you want a change of scenery.
We did scuba dive with the PADI dive shop located at the resort. The owner and the divemasters were great and very helpful. You can dive right there off the cliffs or do boat dives arranged by the shop staff.
This is a resort for people who want a laid back, relaxed vacation. It is a short ride into Negril if you want to do some shopping. There were very few families with children while we were there. The cliffs are open to the ocean with a direct drop into the water. There are ladders to climb back up the cliffs.
We would definitely consider a third trip to the stay at Samsara and hope to return again soon.
