“Nice time”
Reviewed 19 February 2010

We spent the beginning of our trip to Negril at Samsara on the West End. Check in was quick, smooth, and easy. We were informed that our room was upgraded, I had originaly booked a garden view room. Well imagine our surprise when we got a water front room with a double balcony. The room itself was spacious and had a great view. I expected it to be an older hotel, so no surprises there. We had a room with no AC, but it ended up being nice and cool at night and the ceiling fan made it tolerable during the day. Snorkeling off the property was ok. We decided to not do the all inclusive and glad we didn't. We had one lunch there and it was horrible. We looked at the buffet and decided to just order the hamburgers. How bad can you mess up hamburgers? It was bad. Besides, there are so many good places to eat surrounding the area, there is no need to do the all inclusive. It was a very relaxing and enjoyable time. We had no problems walking everywhere from our location. One day we even walked down to the light house after breakfast. The beds were a bit hard and the pillows a bit flat, but not terrible. I'd go back.

Just now getting a tripadvisor - things might have changed a lot since I stayed here, but this is my experience. :)

We arrived and the vehicle they had "reserved" for us wasnt there, so we had to hire a driver. After going the 1.5-2 hrs to the hotel, we were deeply disappointed by the location. It was a great deal, but you had to pay for a cabbie EVERY time you wanted to go somewhere. We went to Rick's Cafe and it was amazing. The sister hotel was a good deal as it provided a beach with sand, however the shuttle only goes at two or three times, and the hotel's beach is quickly filled before the shuttle even arrives. When we checked in the doorman that brought our bags up asked if we smoked weed and would like to buy some. This is to be expected, as it is Jamaica, but it was awkward.

If you want to explore Negril and be average-upscale - I recommend spending a little more and staying somewhere else. In the end it will cost the same and you won't have to trust your life to cab drivers. I would highly recommend Rick's Cafe.

You’re right H0telJumper, since your stay in March 2007 three (3) years ago, there have been a lot changes at Samsara!

We tried to access your record to address the apparently missing driver, however we did not offer airport transfers three years ago. Currently however we do arrange reliable private airport transfers that are much appreciated by our guests. Furthermore, a massive renovation has taken place at Samsara and we’re not finished. Our staff and service has consistently improved, the rooms have been upgraded with new king size beds and hand crafted cedar furnishing, the bathrooms totally redone with marble and granite, a Spa and chill out pool area with Bali beds was added, free Wi-Fi is now being installed, a new fine dining restaurant opens next month, and many other features are in the works that continue to bring us positive feedback and repeat visitors.

We’d love to show you in person and hope that you return in the near future to experience the current Samsara. Three years is a long time since your last visit!

Thank you. We look forward to welcoming you.

I read all the reviews for all the Resorts, good and bad, before we left. We chose this one because of exactly what my title says. I saw that people said this place was the best the most over any other one. So, taking the chance we did it and I'm very glad that we did. We stayed feb 2nd 2010 to feb 9th. As soon as we got there the staff were amazing, showed us our rooms and toured the place. We then went to the bar where there are more friendly staff. Nobody messes with you at all! Do what you want to do where you want to do it. It's very peaceful and the other couples keep their distance. So no worries on having your "time" together! You will find places I promise! The views are amazing. We stayed in the basic beachfront rooms with AC and the view overlooks the pool, cliffs and ocean. You couldn't ask for a better place to be in Negril. Plus you are playing for two Restors basically, Legends is included. So go to the beach a few days too. Ha, what more could you ask for in Negril????? I'm courtney frazier and I'm a friend of the Samsara Resort on facebook! Add me if you go! :)

Just returned from Samsara. Check in was fine. I was disappointed with the security box, it is in the main office and you have to pay to use it, it is long and narrow, just holds some money, passports etc. It would be much nicer if they had safety boxes in your room. Our room was not ready until approximately 4pm. We had twice requested thru our travel agent a rollaway bed, and our agent made note of it on our booking. Our room did not have the rollaway, not even enough room if we were given one (only a few feet at the end of the bed. I told the office girl that we had requested the bed and she said she would see what she could do. We never heard anymore on the subject. Our room category was supposed to be Superior Oceanview. I carried along a printout of what that was supposed to include, and we did not have a rollaway, ironing board or a hairdryer. I wondered if the room was the one we were supposed to get? It didn't seem very superior and the view was not very oceanview due to the obstructed view by trees. My problem was that the 2 teens were boyfriend/girlfriend so only 2 double beds was not exactly appropriate, but we made due. The room itself was clean, and kept clean each day. We took the all inclusive plan.
The food was of good quality, hot and prepared well. Our only complaint would be that at breakfast time, there wasn't much in the way of breakfast meats- bacon only 1 time in week, and sausage once. It must be very costly, as we went across the street to Choices restaurant because no meat that day only ackee and saltfish (not to our liking), and the bacon was only about 1 1/2 slice per person. I didn't care for Choices breakfast, the coffee was terrible, as if it went through the coffeepot 2 times-very, very weak. It only had a slight flavor of coffee. For 4 people the breakfast cost $35.00 American. We should have stayed at Samsara, because everything was included and tastier. Also all of the meals at Samsara had someone dishing out the food, and it made me feel that this was a conservation method. It made you feel that you shouldn't overeat, or take seconds.
The pool at Samsara had the most beautiful temperature. Usually I don't bother with the swimming pools, but this one was very nice. Samsara is very peaceful.
Our teens enjoyed playing pool in the games room.
We made use of the shuttle about 3 days and had a good time at Legends. The beach was great as always, with its many attractions and sights. We visited Margaritaville, Rick's Cafe and had the most scrumptious meal at 3 Dives.
The staff at Samsara were very friendly. My daughter made special mention of this. She said after visiting to Jamaica 7 times, she found the staff the friendliest at Samsara. I would ??maybe recomment this hotel to a friend, if they were not expecting everything to be 5 star for a 3 star price. This hotel is older, but gives you the Jamaican feeling with peace and relaxation. No hassels there.
We also went to PeeWee's for the Bob Marley birthday bashment. It was a smokey experience, even though we don't smoke and wasn't exactly the place for teens. We had fun and laughed about it-you couldn't help it. We also had a great day trip on the "Wildthing", we went snorkeling, and on to Rhodes Hall, did some horseback riding, played soccer with some of the Wildthing people and had a good lunch. We also took a 2 hour boat -snorkeling trip with Captain Leroy (from the beach at Legends). We had a very good time. The crew from Wildthing recognized us at Rick's cafe, and the next day just standing on the cliffs at Samsara. Amazing!
Also, I was happy to fill out the review at Samsara, but that computers keyboard was horrible. I work on a computer everyday, but that thing was next to impossible, and I would have like to have commented on more, I gave up. I never worked on anything like it. It was nicely covered in rubber to protect it, but the reviews may all come out looking wonderful because of the limited questions, and by the time you get to the comments you just about give up. One more note, the doorman was very nice and was a hard working guy- 12 hour days 6-7 days per week/per year. Legend's also had a nice guy named Michael that put out the chairs and umbrella's. I imagine those jobs would never be easy- those people all deserve an "A-plus".
My husband enjoyed snorkeling at Samsara in the early morning, he had a swim with a sea turtle. A frequent visitor to Samsara told us he once was nosed by a curious dolphin.

WIthout notification, we were sent to the garden view hotel rooms which are across the damn street away from the ocean in a little jungle, with no A/C option only a ceiling fan, full of mosquitos and bugs because it was hot and muggy in the "garden." Besides it felt really unsafe, bars on the windows that were all bent, a tiny little lock. Make sure you do NOT get put in that hotel room. Call the hotel before going to confirm you have an actual hotel room! :((((( And if you're a vegetarian or eat seafood, do NOT get the all-inclusive, it's not worth it. They serve fried chicken and hamburgers. NO FISH WAS SERVED in four days. So we ate green beans and mashed potatoes every day. joy.

Thank you alexkhalaf for your review and for choosing Samsara for your Negril vacation. You booked a standard room, some of which are located across the street on the garden side as published. Many of our guests love the garden side spacious octagonal cottages with their very high ceilings, windows all around, and private verandah looking out over peaceful gardens full of hummingbirds and tropical flowers. However we do realize that each guest has individual preferences and are happy that we were able to offer you the opportunity to upgrade to a higher category than your originally booked room. Our records show that you spent 1 night in a garden view cottage with ceiling fan (as advertised), and then opted to upgrade to a superior ocean front room with a.c. for the other 2 nights of your stay. Concerning your comments on our menu, I have checked the all-inclusive menu over the dates you stayed and found that fish was served on three occasions during lunch or dinner between Jan 29 – Feb 1, as well as a number of dishes suitable for vegetarians such as vegetarian lasagna, pasta shell salad, mixed health salad, steamed calaloo, baked squash, coconut rice & peas, stuffed cho-cho, vegetable soups including the much-loved pumpkin soup and hearty red peas soup. At check-out you rated everything Good on our self-serve online survey, singling out our Food & Beverage Service as Excellent. We were also happy to read your departing comments that you enjoyed your new room and appreciated our bartender Sherona’s friendly service. Aside from the first night, we are glad that the overall satisfaction of your stay was positive. Thanks again for your feedback and for choosing to stay at Samsara in Negril.
