Reviewed 9 July 2014

We stayed here for our honeymoon early June 2014. It was a last minuet booking, but the reviews so far read well. Our first impression was very good. Warm welcome, glass of sparkling wine, the front of house man Christopher, walked us round the pool area and explained what was what, which was nice.
The only small issues we faced are, we were told me needed to give a £300 security deposit before we checked into our room. This we were not aware of, but we were informed it was just a 'hold' and no charge would be made, unless we damaged our room. We continued with our stay happily, this certainly didn't bother us. However, at check out we discovered we has been charged £300 and that this was now refunded back to our card. As I said, this wasn't exactly an issue, but to be informed prior to arrival, and be informed that a charge would be placed on the card, I think it a must for the hotel and tour operators in future.
The reception does not offer currency exchange for any amounts on a card, nor anything worth changing, £100 was, much to large an amount to change over for this hotel. Again, not being informed prior to arrival posed a problem. As in the hotel info book, it says "24 hour currency exchange at reception" Again, I would advise you to take all cash you wish to spend, and of course your card if you go out shopping at the mall etc. As the cash machine around the corner never had cash in it to draw.

The reception lady, was the least helpful and happy of all the staff. This was rare, as every member of staff you see and talk to are wonderful, could not do enough for you. This very much made our stay much more enjoyable.
If you desire to purchase a bottle of champagne, order this in advance if your meal. We experienced an issue in the Italian restaurant, where we ordered and it still had not arrived by our main course. The team were very good and apologetic, but I think having a couple of bottles chilled in each restaurant would be a good idea. Also, just as I am fussy, there are far too many white wines on the menu. Having a small selection would be ample at an All inclusive.

Overall, the staff, location, weather and food was WONDERFUL! I would stay again and recommend to my friends and family. A room away from the road would be better, it can be rather noisy at times, but nothing that would stop an enjoyable stay.

Take a visit to Ricks cafe is a must and go see Dr Love down the beach (walk a small distance to the left of the hotel) he sell lovely gifts.
A Dirty Banana is the best drink! And room service is top notch.
Quick note to the hotel, wifi needs to be more reliable and perhaps free in more areas. This is a reasonably expensive hotel already, without paying more for you wifi.

Remember, this review is a personal opinion, take with a pinch of salt if you wish. Thanks for reading.

Room Tip: Email the hotel in advance. The adults only swim up pool area is lovely 👍

Despite long flight you instantly relax as soon as you arrive - staff are superb, considerate, respectful and focused on ensuring everyone has the best possible holiday. That coupled with the Thomson staff - Nicky, Latoyah and Colette all making you feel spoilt and with the food possibly the best I've had at an all inclusive it was a week of sheer indulgence. I had no experience of anything negative and would not hesitate to go back - anyone already booked, you've picked a gem and will have a great time. Would love to return.....

Room Tip: Double rooms great size, and lovely view

We have just returned from a 10 night stay at Azul. We flew with thomson and had a disappointing start to our holiday when we couldn't get seats together, not great for a 9 hour flight! Apart from that we enjoyed our flights on the Dreamliner planes. Once you arrive in Jamaica it's quite a long journey to the hotel, taking around an hour and a half by bus.

The hotel itself is lovely, everything is new and clean and it's situated on the most gorgeous stretch of beach. The location on 7 mile beach is perfect. We stayed in a standard room in block 5 on the second floor, if I were to go again I would book a swim up room . The rooms are spacious with large beds and a table and chairs. The large bathroom has a large waterfall shower and double sinks but no bath, which we didn't really miss. The minibar is topped up daily with beer, soft drinks and banana chips.

The food at this hotel is some of the best food we have had at an all inclusive resort. I have coeliac disease so need a gluten free diet and the hotel were fantastic with this. The first question they ask when you go into each restaurant is whether you have any dietary requirements, the waiting staff seemed quite clued up about what I could have and if they weren't sure they would ask the chef to come and speak to me. There are 4 restaurants of which the Italian was our favourite, they made gf pasta and every meal meal was delicious. Ackee made carribean food and it was great to taste Ackee and salt fish and jerk chicken. The bistro steak and the singing waiters at Garfields are brilliant. We only went to the buffet for breakfast and lunch but it had a great selection. We enjoyed room service breakfast in our room on a few mornings and oceans corner did amazing burgers (without the bun for me!). One thing I would change us that on the beach party nights, Wednesdays and sats, they close all but one restaurant. This restaurant would then be really busy, perhaps keeping 2 open would give more choice.

We used the spa at the hotel and really enjoyed our couples massage, weren't so sure of the "water journey" included before hand. The gym had a large range of weights machines but a poor selection of free weights and it only had one treadmill which was often in use. The air con was poor in the cardio area of the gym but good in the weights area... Where you don't need it as much!

As mentioned before the beach is gorgeous with white sand and crystal clear water. You can walk along the beach for a little way to your right through the sandals resort but eventually you come to a nudist only beach at hedonism and if you walk along to the left you eventually get cut off by greenery, although you could possibly get round this. You can get a reasonable walk though. There are three pools and all of these are very nice, two have swim up bars. When we first arrived there was a problem with people reserving sun beds first thing so it was difficult to get a good spot but the hotel have put a stop to this.

Tipping is customary here but we never felt pressured to tip and I don't think it made a big difference to the service. We only took American dollars with us.

We did two tours, dolphin cove and quad biking, both are highly recommended!

Overall we wouldn't hesitate to go back to this resort or to recommend it to anyone. Feel free to message if you have any other questions.

Best holiday yet - starting from Manchester check in, looked after all the way & the Dreamliner is something else. Arrived at Montego Bay - small hold up through Customs & immigration. Due to the long journey between airport & hotel we opted for private taxi, this was great & included a sort of tour guide commentary on the various areas we passed through.
Arrived safely at hotel tired & weary but was quickly refreshed by the cool face cloths & glass of champagne on offer in reception whist you wait for check in procedures and were looked after exquisitely by Latoya (Thomson Rep). We were shown to our room which unfortunately was not quite ready, however this was quickly sorted out and we got settled in - all very comfortable. There is one problem here with the swim up rooms with the end room in each of the blocks being very close to small footbridges over the 'Lazy River' that connects the swim up rooms with the pools. We requested a change & were accommodated in a different better located swim up room. From here on in the service exceeded all expectations. All the restaurants were brilliant & food was exceptionally good for an all inclusive resort, Palms was the main restaurant and was buffet style but unlike most hotels in UK the food was kept hot. The three a-la-carte restaurants were all good with our favourite being the Italian themed Restaurant. My wife can't have Garlic and in all restaurants (yes even the buffet) the Chef would come out & find out what she liked & prepared it specially.
The pools, lazy river & grounds around the hotel were all kept clean with staff going round from 6:00am constantly cleaning the place including the superb beach area. Whilst a lot of the sun beds etc. were 'reserved' early in the morning we never had a problem finding either a full sun bed or lounger chair on the beach or by the pool in addition to the sun bed you get with a swim up room.
To sum up there are a few minor niggles but the staff do encourage you to report these and our experience demonstrated that all the staff were more than willing to help & sort things out. If we had to name any staff here it would be LATOYA (Thomsons Rep), CARLOS (Bell Man), TINETA (reception) Neville (Palms restaurant - 'Top Man' - sometimes known as 'on time'), MARVIN (Italian Restaurant) & last but certainly not least NICOLE & MYRTLE (Housekeeping - hope your leg is better Nicole), ALL THE CHEFS (All Restaurants) - A big thank-you for going the extra mile & ensuring their customers get food they like & can eat.

Room Tip: If going for swim up room avoid end rooms other than honeymoon suites (one end of each block is the...

We have struggled to write our review as we want to give people as much information as we can without our experiences or reasons for travel having an impact. We travelled with a group of 9 other people (aged 23-63) for 2 weeks (4th May-18th May) for our wedding (8th May).

Airport arrival
We arrived at Montego Bay and were informed by Thomson staff in the airport that we were to make our way to a particular coach. The coaches were lined up in a grid fashion - side by side with more coaches behind them. Upon locating our coach we were greeted by Latoya, one of the Sensatori Reps at the hotel. During the coach ride to the hotel she gave a little introduction to the island and pointed out some interesting things along the way, which was a lovely touch.

Hotel arrival
Upon arrival at the hotel we were greeted with a cold glass of fizz and a cold towel. We were met by Nicky and Anna and were told to sit down and unwind whilst our cases were unloaded.
It was then we were finally able to relax and take in the breathtaking view and our first Jamaican sunset which is honestly one of the most stunningly beautiful things you will ever see. The open plan lobby looked out over the main decking and onto the beautiful white sands and blue Caribbean sea. Once our rooms were ready we were escorted by a member of staff who gave a small guided tour to our rooms.

Hotel rooms
We stayed in 4301 (a honeymoon suite) on the third floor of the multigenerational section. The room consisted of a bedroom with en-suite shower, toilet, double sinks and wardrobe in the bathroom area. There was also a large lounge and second shower, toilet and sink opposite another wardrobe. The balcony was a large wraparound balcony overlooking the pool and the stunning beach and sea. The views of the sunset were second to none. The balcony consisted of small table with 2 chairs and a two-seater cushioned love seat with canopy. There was a mini bar which consisted of soft drinks, water and beer, coffee making facilities were also provided and 2 large TVs.
The rooms were spotlessly cleaned every day and most days we were greeted by some towel art or scattered rose petals. There was no turn down service (a facility which you become accustomed to if you have travelled to the Caribbean before). The restocking of the coffee making facilities and mini bar was somewhat sporadic. On occasion there would be items missing (no mugs, no water, no coffee, no milk etc)

Hotel Reps
At all other hotels we have been to there has been one rep that services a number of hotels and has set times to visit you at your hotel. Here there are 2 full time reps, a Sensatori Manager and an Azul Manager. All the staff - Latoya, Colette, Nicky & Anna were so friendly and really approachable. Nothing is too much trouble, our group organised several trips through them and any issues with our rooms were sorted promptly with no fuss. After a few days you want to pop over to see them just to say hello. They all work tirelessly hard and really enjoy what they do and are a credit to the company and the hotel.

Pools
There are 4 swimming pools, one in the adults only section with swim up bar, one on the main deck (also known as amber deck), one in the multigenerational section with a second swim up bar and a fourth located near the villas. All the pools are spotlessly clean. The pool bar opens around 11am and closes at 5-5.30pm. They have entertainment in the evening at the pool bar (singers, guitarists etc) who perform as the sun sets which you can watch from your balcony. Its a really nice touch and one that we would hate to see disappear. The bar located in the adults only section is advertised on the website as being open in the evenings but it was always shut by 5.30pm during our stay. They do make some fantastic cocktails at all the bars and if you want to try something different the staff are more than happy to mix up something new.

Restaurants
There are 4 restaurants, Palms (main buffet open breakfast lunch and dinner), Garfields (open lunch and dinner), Di Romagio (Italian open dinner only) Ackee (Jamaican cuisine open breakfast and dinner). The food in all restaurants is exceptional. There is also a coffee bar in reception which also makes smoothies & Protein Shakes as well as having sandwiches, cakes and little snacks like cookies, macaroons and biscotti. Weather permitting there are also beach parties Wednesdays and Saturdays (some eating places may close on these nights so check on the day).
Food is quite a personal preference but we can honestly say the quality is great. The portion sizes may be on the small for some people with good appetites but if you know you like to eat, order 2 starters or ask for bigger portions. The staff are so accommodating. Another plus point is that they ask if you have any allergies and will cater pretty much any meal to suit your needs. The fact that you don't have to book the speciality restaurants in advance is another highlight. We would hate to see that change if the hotel gets bigger and busier.
One thing we noticed about the Garfields Restaurant is that there was no Coffee making facilities there, so if you wanted a coffee the waiter would have to go and get coffee from another restaurant or reception.

Bars
There are 2 swim up pool bars as previously mentioned, there is a bar located at Garfields restaurant which is open from about 11ish until when the restaurant closes, 7 mile bar and the Nesta bar. 7 mile bar is under a small canopy on the amber deck and gets very busy. There a few bar stools situated around the bar and some tables and chairs nearby. There is no table service and you often had to queue for some time to get drinks. In a 5* hotel this is unacceptable. Hopefully by hiring more staff to clear the tables and provide table service this will no longer be an issue. There is also a limited beach drinks service. For those who have travelled before, especially to the Caribbean, you will know that touches like beach and pool drinks service are what you come to expect when you pay considerable money for a 5* hotel. Again hopefully more staff will help. When it rains (which its the Caribbean so it does quite frequently) there is only the Nesta lounge which is an indoor bar. This is a lovely bar but is very small and when the hotel is full it will not be able to deal with the amount of people. This needs to be addressed.

Gym
Like many people we like to go to the gym on holiday. Unfortunately the Gym/Spa that we were sold upon booking the hotel was not finished. Thomson did email us prior to leaving to tell us the Gym/Spa would not be ready so it wasn't a surprise. There was an interim gym which appeared to be a building block from the old hotel the Sensatori is built on (Beaches Sandy Bay). The gym is small and has mostly older pulley style weight machines with very limited cardio equipment. During the second week some workmen arrived and put together some more cardio equipment as well as adding a small section of free weights. As the building that houses the Gym is older, it leaks when it rains. The building was always kept spotlessly clean just like the rest of the hotel but it was clearly a compromise.

Wedding
Our wedding in Jamaica was truly fantastic and was everything we could have wished for. The wedding co-ordinator at the hotel, Shelly-Ann was brilliant and she took care of everything for us with no fuss. The hotel were very accommodating and sent Champagne and extra beer to our suite where we had a small party for our guests to watch the sun set, we then had a fantastic meal in Palms. If you are thinking about getting married abroad we can certainly recommend this hotel.

Trips
As we travelled in a group we booked a number of excursions. We all booked a trip to Rick's Cafe and some couples booked trips to YS Falls and Dunns River Falls separately.
The feedback our friends gave us from the trips is that they are lovely when you are there but Dunns River falls for example is 4 hours away by coach and the journey can be a little tiring.
Our trip to Rick's Cafe was honestly a waste of money. It's very Americanised and we just didn't enjoy our time there. The cliff divers were spectacular but they only dive for tips and when you do your research you realise that its very dangerous and people have been killed jumping from the cliff. People talk about how great the sunset is there but honestly the sunset from our balcony, or anywhere in our hotel, was miles better.

Staff
The staff are fantastic and are what makes the place so great. Without the staff the hotel would certainly struggle. After two weeks at the resort one criticism that was shared amongst the other guests we spoke to was that the staff aren't Jamaican enough. Some of their responses sound a bit scripted. Given that the hotel was newly opened there seemed to be a large number of senior Karisma managers milling about and this seemed to unnerve the staff somewhat. Let the staff be themselves, they have bubbly vibrant personalities and guests love to see that shining through. On the occasions where it did happen - our first beach party which was also the night before our wedding stands out - the evening is completely transformed and you feel that the staff are having a party with you, it's fantastic and is one of the main reasons people choose Jamaica as a holiday destination.

There were so many members of staff who made our stay so special and we would like the opportunity to thank them personally, they do such a fantastic job and work tirelessly to make you feel like royalty, always with a huge smile. So thank you to the following staff members who really stood out for us:

Barstaff
Anieta, Alfonso, Christina, Wayde

Cooks/Chefs
Glenmar, Julio, Kevin, Rohan, Hyacinth

Servers

Summary
The hotel is clean, well maintained and has some great staff who really are an asset to the hotel. The food and drink are of a high standard and it is difficult to find fault.
The main downside of the hotel, and its something you seriously need to consider when you book, is that the hotel is still being worked on - it's not finished. We had an absolutely amazing time here but if we had been told when we made the booking that the hotel would not be ready for our holiday, despite how good this place is we probably would have booked somewhere else. During our stay we noticed a number of issues which need to be addressed before this hotel can truly reach its potential.
The second week in the hotel was much busier than the first and did expose the lack of staff in the resort. For example Christina and Wayde at the pool bar would serve drinks, collect glasses from the beach, wash glasses and serve drinks on the beach. They both worked so hard and did it with a smile, but clearly they needed some help. We heard during our stay that more staff were being hired so hopefully this should no longer be an issue.
There does not appear to be enough public toilets for a fully booked hotel. 2 toilets at Nesta, 2 near amber deck, 1 at Garfields and 1 at the gym for a hotel with 136 rooms is just not enough.
The lobby is lovely and open plan but no air-conditioning means it can get very sticky and hot. The only 2 restaurants with air-conditioning are Garfields and the Italian, maybe Ackee and Palms could do with a better method of keeping guests cool.
When it rains, it really rains. For people who have travelled to the Caribbean before or have done their research this will come as no surprise - its accepted as part of the package. Its at these times you see that the design of the hotel has some unintentional side effects, for example in Ackee there is a seating area outside covered with a permanent canopy. Its open air so its very nice to sit in and the views are amazing, unless its raining. If it rains the water comes in from the sides and you and anyone else sitting there ends up huddled in the middle of the floor eating your meal.
The hotel does flood around some pathways and on the stairs, the latter becomes very slippy so you need to be very careful walking around after a rainstorm. During our stay we saw one of the chefs slip and fall and also heard that the doctor had been called to a guest who had fallen over.
All in all we have given the hotel a good rating. We really enjoyed the hotel, the wedding was truly fantastic and we couldn't have wished for a better day and experience, the food and drink were great, the staff were friendly, hard working and enthusiastic and we would recommend the hotel and come back for another visit but the hotel is new and is still finding its feet. In another 12 months or so once issues have been resolved we think this will truly be an exceptional hotel.

Room Tip: 4301 Honeymoon suite - Amazing views of the sunsets

Just got back from a fantastic 11 night break at the Sensatori Negril. Must say right up there with best ever holidays. The Service starts when you arrive with a glass of fizz and cold towels, check in is a breeze you sit there and the staff do everything.

We upgraded to a swim up room well with the money, room was very large with one of the biggest beds we've seen, the swim up area consists of a small patio / seating area with a large four poster sun bed ( no rush to get the towels out) and what makes it perfect is the swim up bar is right there in the pool in front of you all with every branded drink and cocktails you could want. ( a bit girly but the dirty banana is my favourite)

As far as food is concerned just take your pick, Palms is the Buffet style main restaurant plenty of choice and a really nice setting. Ackee is the Caribbean restaurant really nice food (Try the Sautéed Seafood fantastic) The most popular restaurant is the Italian, the food is so nice can get quiet busy though, Garfield's is the beach front restaurant a little quieter than the rest, nice for that meal for 2 another big plus is there is no booking so if you like the Italian its a first come first serve so if you wanted you could eat there every night

The thing that we found that makes this Hotel is the staff, doesn't matter if its Joseph and Co at the bars or Omar G and all the waiting staff in the restaurants everyone is just so friendly and can't do enough for you.

The pools are really well looked after and the beach is perfect we tended to do the beach in morning then go back for lunch then do the pool with the swim up bar and then end up in the swim up part of the room to watch the world go by perfect.

There is a watersports area although this is not part of the all inclusive package, I used it for doing some Diving and Stanley and his boys were fantastic PADI registered dived at 4 local dive sites. they can also arrange for snorkelling trips fishing trips although I only used them for the scuba diving

We booked with Thomson and the staff are on site every day and were really helpful to help with any issue be it booking a trip of sorting out any other problems you may have.

If I did have any issues they are very minor, The beach area could do with some more areas of shade and an ATM would be a very good idea in the reception although there is one sited a little further down the beach but this is not on the complex and not 24hrs.
The beach BBQ which is run twice a week, good for meeting other people and really nice food but it does use up most of the waiting staff so some of the other restaurant will be close when this is on which can be a pain
Free WIFI is Ok but not great, although you can buy WIFI for your room which is fine if a little expensive 3 devices 1 week $70 US.

Finally if you do decide to go to the Sensatori do you self a favour and take short walk down the beach and take a peek at the Sandals resort and pat your self on the back for saving yourself a lot of money and getting a nicer resort.

Room Tip: Didn't stay in one but did see a 1 bed Aptmt which did seem rather small

Shelly-Ann our wedding coordinator took excellent care of us! We got married on the beach, and the ceremony was fantastic! Again, you could tell Shelly-Ann's hard work paid off for us. We had an excellent reception on the beach as well! Our room was spacious, and had a spectacular view. Everything was super convenient! Beach was a few feet from the front door of our room, pool was right there! All the staff were fantastic! We had a candle light dinner on the beach, and our server Daemon was awesome, extraordinary service, and lots of fun. There was a photographer wandering around in the evenings, but the pictures were pretty expensive for something you can print out at home. The resort was still growing into itself, the archery range wasn't open, as the staff hadn't gone through training yet. But who goes to Jamaica to shoot some arrows?? The staff was awesome! The beach was great! Pools were awesome!

Room Tip: Swim up rooms were pretty awesome if you have any intentions to float in the pool at all.
