I've stayed here for dreamweek in 2011 and 2012 the rooms are basic nothing spectacular. Bare in mind you have to pay for the safe key and also if you want a fridge in your room. Food is not all that great it's the same day in and out breakfast is the best to me. Since it was a weekend full of partying I didn't mind. If you want to relax its a good atmosphere especially the sunset on the beach is to die for. Drinks are ok no top shelf liquor though.

April 6-13 2012. I arrived at night so it was hard to appreciate at first. Staff are helpful and friendly. They keep the place clean. I was told this was a 4 star resort but I have to disagree and say its more of a 2.5-3. The beds and dressers are older. Despite that I didn't find the bed uncomfortable at all. Best to bring your own beach towel, we asked for them around 1000 and they were already out of beach towels. You can buy them from the small shop that's close to the beach for about 15 (bob marley) or less but you have to barter. The food was good, enough to be satisfied but not a huge selection as you would have at the bigger, more expensive resorts. If you like late night snacks I suggest to bring some ( candy, chips etc) because there is no snack bar in between meals and next to nothing to eat late night let say after the club. Well there is jerk chicken late night but one can get sick of eating it EVERY NIGHT. The beach in front of the hotel gorgeous, soft white sand and emerald green water. Try fishing if you can it was fun, and also there is a man Rasta Mike who has a boat that will take you to a small island where you can eat BBQ lobster and relax for 40-50. Always try to lower the prices whenever you buy something/excursions they are always upping the price significantly. Overall it was pleasant I realized after walking the seven mile beach I liked my side of the beach ( Jamaican family owned hotels such as Merrils) It was relaxing, people were pleasant and listening to live reggae every night on the beach was romantic :) The people selling stuff on the beach can be aggressive and after you say no once they can be quite persistent. The best thing to do is say no and ignore, it does sound rude but that was the only way to get them to move on; esp when they know you have just arrived. Always check your bed for bed bugs anywhere you go 2 or 5 star. I was told bed bugs were found in a 5 star at Grand Bahia Principe, so just keep your eyes open. We were not told this but found out later that you are able to dine at any of the Merrils which does allow a little bit of change. They have the menu of what is to be served at the front of the restaurant. No entertainment so ask around of what there is to do that night or follow the music on the beach there is something going on EVERY night.

Room Tip: Our room was close to the road and it can get very noisy so if you are a light sleeper I suggest you...

by far the merrils properties in negril are great for your money, as the inclusive price has food, and drinks, but a poor variety than most inclusives i've visited. what i dont like about the hotel is...no visitors on the property. you pay all this money and you can invite no one on the property. no day or night passes. i can't get with this program anymore and that is why i am writing this review so all my single friends can know and make an informed decision.

i did love the rooms...they are nice...spacious, woodsy, and the balconies are nice to sit on in the evenings. but they do have a mosquito problem. i got bit very badly and got ill from the situation. overall, i would recommend the rooms, but to stay downstairs and keep doors closed in the evenings. try to get some bug spray in town or use to bug repellent.

the staff is cool....tip them and they will bring your food to the room. i did not like the selection of drinks. the hotel can improve. i also did not like the hotel chair caters to Europeans.....they need to advertise to Americans. when i went there i was the only American staying for 3 days before a few other Americans came...and they checked out and went to Merril's I because of the language barrier.

what i loved about the hotel is...you can walk at night...or sit out there and the locals come up and talk to you. they love us. so do not be afraid. i even went out to a local club on the beach with a local and had a great time. another group at the hotel dressed up and crazy wigs and dresses and went with a rasta for protection, and danced all night. it was pretty funny.

overall.....its a good price for the buck but it has alot of minus. i recommend for couples, not for singles.

Room Tip: because of the flying insect issue...stay in a room downstairs. the porches are nice to sit on at n...

We were ar Merrils III from February 11, 2012 until February 25th. The staff is very friendly and willing to please. Really liked Charlie and Donovan. It is true that 1/2 of the resort is booked as Negril Relax, however the restaurant is run by Merrils. It was nice to be able to use any of the Merrils resorts, but I really think that the beach was the best at III. Rooms are OK, the balcony was nice. We would sit out there after leaving the beach and play cards or dice. Remember this isn't a 5 Star hotel, so don't expect one. The staff really does try to please and are friendly. A good number of Europeans stay here, so be prepared for that. Rasta Mickey comes by on the beach each day trying to book trips on his glass bottom boat. He was a riot. I happen to love Jamaica, so as always the friendly people and gorgeous weather make the trip!

We were in Negril for 10 days. We booked a room online through a 3rd party. when we arrived, we were told the hotel was booked - no room for us. The young ladies at the front desk were very dry and uncareing. This is my 9th time in Jamaica and I have never had this problem. We attempted to speak to the hotel manager but she was too busy, her cell phone range 6 times and she answered it each time with even saying "excuse me". We left and found a room at white sands. We gave the resort another chance and had breakfast there a few days late. The food was very good and there was a lot of it!! We took a look at one of the VACANT rooms which was your basic, clean room. There is no pool. It appears that the reservation area is very unorganized and do not apoligize for it. We did get our money transferred to White Sands. We may give Negril Relax another chance but will book directly with the hotel.

Room Tip: The poor service I received was at the front desk only. The waitstaff in the dining area were very n...
