My husband and I visited and had an amazing time. They do not allow solicitation which made it the highlight of our trip in Jamaica. You will get solicited everywhere in Jamaica except here. It was a $5 charge to get in but so worth it. The beach was beautiful. There was only one other couple there so it was like we had the beach to ourselves. The water was calm and clear. It didn't have good snorkeling but good snorkeling in Jamaica is almost a thing of the past. They have a few dogs running around which I didn't mind at all. They were friendly and would lay by our chairs or follow us out in to the water. It was so funny to watch them chase little fish in the water or the little crabs in the sand. They have a little restaurant as well. The prices weren't too bad. I had the chicken kabob and the husband had the curry chicken. Both were amazing. The drinks are made with fresh fruit, the papaya daiquiri was delicious. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Jamaica. It's a nice piece of heaven away from the hustle.

This beach is quiet, with a long shallow entry. The water is crystal clear and the type of blue takes your breath away. It is shaped like a half-moon, hence the name. We visited with two small children, and the water is perfect for beginner swimmers. The owner has several dogs, but they are friendly with people.

1) Check under the beach chair for a dog before sitting down (if you tend to get surprised easily).

2) Order your food at the cafe before you get hungry, especially if you have a larger party. Ask them to check what is available before ordering. In Jamaica, cooking times are longer because the chef typically makes one dish at a time. Also, it's an island so in the off-season some ingredients are not available.

3) Definitely visit this beach if you want to experience the way Jamaica used to be before becoming developed by big resorts.

4) There are no hasslers allowed on this beach, so it makes for a very peaceful and relaxing experience.

5) It cost us about 5 US dollars each to get into the beach area.

We didn't stay at the resort, but visited the private beach. This is an absolute MUST if you're visiting Negril. No solicitation allowed on this beach, makes for a hassle-free beach day. Lounges and hammocks around the small, protected bay are perfect and the beach is super quiet and peaceful. There's also canoes, snorkels and bamboo rafts to hire if lazing on the beach gets boring.
We met one of the owners and she was incredibly friendly and shared her knowledge of the area. She also introduced us to 'Bread Fruit' which we'd never have tried as it's not often on the resort menus. If I return to Jamaica, I'll be staying here and avoiding the tourist rush in the big resorts.

We went to Half Moon on our last full day in Jamaica. We had previously been to Seven Mile beach on the previous days, which, while beautiful, was full of people trying to sell us things. On our last day we wanted a break from that. You do have to pay $5 to get in, but it's worth it. We ate a reasonably priced lunch in the cute little cafe area. I had an amazing drink served in a giant coconut which I would highly recommend and my husband had the rum punch, which he said was the best he'd had. We then laid on the beach in their comfortable loungers. My husband rented snorkel gear and swam out to the little island off the beach. He said the snorkeling was amazing and the island was really fun to explore as well. The best part about Half Moon is the dogs! We were greeted by two adorable puppies and some older dogs who hung out with us and wrestled on the beach.
