We stopped by Mikuzi looking for a place to stay to extend our P.A. visit (we were familiar with the place, as we had stayed in their Kingston lodging a few years previously). Chad, who takes care of the place, showed us around and rented us a 3 bedroom cottage at a very good price for three nights. We were traveling with our 2 year old daughter so it was important for us that she have her own bed. While it was far from perfect, we thought Mikuzi was a great value - as the proximity to Winnifred Beach is unmatched, and it had lots of little things nice to have (kitchen, patio, gardens surround, lots of neat little decorations). The sheets and towels really need to be replaced (holes and stains!) and they should be more diligent if drying in the sun. Most of the linens/pillows smelled moldy/mildewy and had mold spots on them; they seem to leave them on the line for days, letting them get wet again by rain, dried again, wet again, etc. In general, a few hundred dollars of investment could let this place really shine, but as it stands it's more like a hostel. We were happy to be saving money by staying here, we invested in purchasing our own towels, some detergent soap and scrub for the kitchen, and some deodorizer for the bathroom (it just felt it needed an extra layer of clean). We were quite pleased up until our last day, when we returned from a day at the beach to find someone else's bathing suit drying on the chairs outside our room. When we came into the cottage, we found many of belongings had been moved, and the room our daughter had been sleeping in was locked. When we found Chad, he explained he had rented out the room to other travelers. Had this been explained as a possibility, we would not have been as upset as we were. However, my husband SPECIFICALLY asked if he was renting us a room or the whole cottage, and Chad assured him it was for the cottage. Also, had it just been my husband and I staying here, I would have been less upset. But now we had no way to have our daughter sleep in her own room securely - this was very disconcerting for us. ALSO, Chad left all our belongings completed unsecured as the guests renting the room had full access to the whole cottage and our things while we were gone! As icing on the cake, the shower drain clogged the last night so the tub was about 6 inches deep with dirty muddy water after Chad tried to plunge it for a while. I think with more responsible management and a little better upkeep, Mikuzi could be a sweet spot, but it left us on a very sour note.
