“A Hidden Jamaican Jem, or is it a Pearl!”
Reviewed 29 August 2011

Even before I arrived at Geejam, I knew it would be a special vacation. The service provided from reservations to check-out was beyond expectation. The entire staff made sure that every detail to our stay was met, and always, always always with a smile.

The rooms all have spectacular views, very clean, cool and inviting. They have a modern and simple decor which is comfortable. The bath products and in room treats are special. As this is also the home of a recording studio, you can imagine that the music and video system is top notch with song and movie library in the hundreds - and all included.

While the hotel is wonderful, what makes it truly special - a true pearl - is the staff. They are all present, yet unobtrusive. Glad to help with any and all requests. Happy to engage in conversation, tell you about the area, take you to the hidden swimming spot - or just leave you alone to read and enjoy a rum punch.

I can't wait to escape and go back again soon!

Room Tip: All rooms have great views. Some are closer to the restaurant and entrance, so if you don't wan...

Myself, my significant other and our three-year-old daughter stayed at Geejam for three glorious nights after having left Goldeneye in Oracabessa (also excellent). First off, the drive to Port Antonio was absolutely splendid. If you are driving in from the Ocho Rios area, prepare yourself for fascinating visual stimulation. The emerald green landscape and the clear turquoise water are positively stunning. Upon arrival at Geejam we were met with rather stringent security measures in the form of zero directional or resort signage. Not until we were directly in front of the Geejam gates did we know with certainty that we had indeed arrived, ensuring ultimate privacy and actual retreat for us. This exclusivity was felt throughout our entire stay, as the entire experience was fabulous thanks to the calming environment and attentive staff. We lodged in the Rocksteady suite, which managed to feel more like an über-chic tree house while maintaining a minimalist eco-tourism-esque quality. Rocksteady is Geejam’s smallest suite, though what it lacked in size it made up for in charmingly simple elegance with it’s crisp white and wood décor including the cutest tufted headboard. The bathroom is ultra modern with great exposure to the remarkable rainforest, which completely surrounds Geejam. The encompassing rainforest is indescribably beautiful therefore I will not attempt to try characterizing it here. Think intimate exposure to total greenery, enchanting vines, and fruits that cost $8.99 a pound at Whole Foods available for picking just steps from your bedroom. Anyway, I will do it little justice, just go and see it for yourselves. Geejam makes you access your widest imagination with its surrounding views and sounds of perfect nature. In fact our three-year-old thought that she was in an episode of Dora the Explorer or Diego the entire time, it was too cute.

The entire staff at Geejam was amazing to say the least. Jason, Iola, our fantastic drivers whose names I shamefully can’t remember right now and the owner Steve Beaver were honestly brilliant. Jason was great with our daughter and so attentive to us. We were able to get a tour of the recording studio, which is pristine and impressive (I’ve worked in the recording industry for many years). Sadly, we actually ran into a minor swindling dilemma at a nearby restaurant. Iola sorted it with Steve where we were comped dinner the following night at Geejam’s Bushbar to make up for the unpleasantries that we dealt with. The cuisine at the Bushbar is great by the way. Before we left Geejam, Steve Beaver came to our room to personally apologize for how we had been treated at the outside restaurant although it was in no way his fault or that of his marvelous staff, very gracious of him indeed. All in all, we had an unforgettable time at Geejam. We would recommend it to anyone who loves beauty in its purest, undisturbed form. We will certainly be back. Walk good Geejam and Island Outpost!!!!

We have stayed in Rocksteady for 5 nights, arrived on August 13. After a warm welcome and a nice drink in the cool Bushbar we were brought to our cabin - the Rocksteady. Most beautiful view to the ocean and very close to the studio.
The staff was very helpfull and friendly and make sure that your stay is well arranged. On arrival, you receive a Nokia mobile phone which you can use to order food, arrange trips, etc.
We loved Geejam and our cabin 100%, we enjoyed the private beach, the steambath in our room, the lobster in the nice Bushbar restaurant and the whole area of Port Antonio. A great stay. We met one of the owners, Steve Beaver, and had a very nice chat with him several times about business and his dreams for Portland. During our stay, Steve called us and arranged that we could visit Trinity Castle. This is not open to the public, but Steve arranged this. This was simply great!!! We have also done the rafting on Rio Grande with the lunch. It might sound as an extremely touristy thing, but we enjoyed it big time!! The costs for the excursion to Geejam, was however a bit too high to be honest....
After we left, Steve gave us a quick call to say farewell and we really appreciated this! Everything about Geejam was super, though we still think that it is slightly overpriced - the rooms and the trip to Rio Grande. But the personal touch, the nice people and area make it worthwhile for everyone to go!

Room Tip: Rocksteady is the "cheapest" room at Geejam, but we loved it. Great view, great bathroom...

What joy to find this gem of a hotel, from the minute we walked in, the most stunning surroundings and the warmest welcome. I have stayed in Ska, Drum and Bass, and, most recently, Sanwood. (I keep coming back, really love the Geejam vibe) All rooms are decorated with fabulous style, cool, clean and white plus very comfortable, with feather pillows, crisp sheets, massive showers, huge terraces and amazing views all around. Internet works perfectly, as does Apple TV. Much thought has gone into the details . The food at Geejam is delicious too.
Both of the owners, Jon Baker and Steve are the perfects hosts, and they personally make sure that all guests are happy, they take the time to find out what we would like to do and see and go to great lengths to arrange a perfect stay. In my case, I love swimming and Steve took the time to take us all for a beautiful swim around the lagoon. Easy walk back up to the hotel from the beach.
I was also interested in the studio, and was invited, along with the other guests in the hotel, to see the Jolly Boys rehearsing "Smooth Operator" for their European Tour with Sade, which was a huge privilege and most memorable.
A fabulous rafting trip on the Rio Grande river was arranged with the most delicious lunch on the side of the river, finishing at sunset, breathtakingly beautiful. Water a perfect temperature, not cold at all, so we swam most of the way next to the raft. Heaven!
I cannot wait to go back, Geejam really is the best.

My wife and I stayed in Ska from Aug 5-9, absolutely perfect cottage; secluded from the other cottages, with a perfect view from the hot tub on the deck, and close to the Bushbar.

We lucked out; as we pulled up to Geejam, the Jolly Boys were just finishing rehearsing in the studio. J-son was kind enough to escort us down to the studio to meet the band, who were gracious enough to take a few pics with us. They couldn't be nicer.

Speaking of J-son, he made sure all of our needs were attended to, no problem, from mixing the perfect drinks, to sending a cooler full of Red Stripes and water down to the beach, to making sure we had the perfect Jamaican experience. He even almost beat me in a game of pool.

Steve, one of the owners of the property, was on site during our stay, and could not have been a more gracious host. He was kind enough to give us a full tour of the property, and chat with us at length about his hopes and dreams for the Port Antonio area. An Email was waiting for me when I got home from Steve, making sure that we had gotten home safely. Thanks also go out to Iola, Dwight and Nigel, who took great care of us.

Geejam has the perfect vibe going. Steve loved having the guests play DJ at the Bushbar, and the music library trumps any I have seen. With over 15,000 songs, which you can also access from the Apple TV in your room, the perfect song for the perfect setting wasn't hard to find.

The beach is absolute beautiful, from the views, to the daybeds, to kayaking around the cove. The fitness center met all our needs, and we even ran the stairs, which was a great workout.

If you can, be sure to go rafting on the Rio Grande. It is really an authentic Jamaican experience. Lunch along the river was incredible, hanging with the locals was priceless. I took some amazing pictures, which I have already blown up and hung on the wall, so I can constantly be reminded of my time at Geejam.

I've been to Jamaica quite a few times; nothing has come close. Kudos to the staff and owners of Geejam, you've created the perfect escape in a wonderful country.

Room Tip: Ska perfectly located; secluded with amazing view

My husband and I spent our one-year anniversary at Geejam and were completely transfixed by how dreamy this resort it. The staff could not have been sweeter or more attentive— I was 3 months pregnant at the time and they cared for me so well. The lush grounds are truly a tropical paradise, we enjoyed waking up to hummingbirds floating in the trees around the Ska bungalow where we stayed. The beach is mystical and beautifully calm, and the town of Port Antonio feels like the real Jamaica- because it IS the real Jamaica. We can't wait to return- with the baby next time!
