“Take my breath away”
Reviewed 23 May 2012

On entering the property you feel as if you were alone, dont know if it was the time of year we visited. The atmosphere change when we were greated by the front desk receptionist who gave us a brief overview of the property and highlighted us on places we could visit during our stay, a very pleasant girl.
Things got better when we were shown to our room, quiet spacious, clean well decorated with art. The air was fresh and you could hear birds chirping all around the property.
The dinner was lovely, a little pricy but taste was excellent. Staff were friendly and you got a feeling as if you were at home.
I am planning a vacation next year with my family and Jamaica Palace Hotel will definitely be the place for our stay. see you soon.

Room Tip: Rooms on the upstairs, you will get a nice view and pretty quiet.

Very grand looking place with lots of paintings and sculptures around it. As other visitors had mentioned, it did feel like we were they only ones staying there. Check in was easy, staff were friendly. We ate at the restaurant which was nice, bit pricing though. Room was clean and overall it was a good stay.

Stayed there once with my family when we lived in Jamaica 2006-2007. It looks very impressive from the outside, but the rooms are un-inspiring and dark. It's like being in a cage when you're inside. The mattresses were stone hard. I hardly slept at all that night.
It's like this place pretends to be something it isn't. Only possitive thing was the pool. Very nice. We had dinner in the restaurant. Very ordinary food that you can easyly get better at half price in town.

Stayed at this hotel,on our tour of Jamaica. When we arrived it looked a quite grand place. Went to our room ,Quite classy decorations, and very comfortable. Had a walk around.A really big very impressive place, although parts of it has seen better days. All over different kinds of art work. Some nice some a bit wierd. Some parts as if time had stood still. It must have been very impressive when first built.
We had dinner in the evening, which was very good. Then Breakfast in the morning, also very good,as was the service. We were a group of 15 people, and appeared to be the only people staying there, which seemed a bit wierd as it was a massive hotel.

We booked through hotels.com and told that this hotel was on the waterfront.. Which it's not! Very large property so if you like privacy, this place is for you. We found the atmosphere a bit too creepy, felt like the twilight zone with all the strange art and the fact that it felt like no one els was staying there! The hotel seems like it was a cool place back in it's day, maybe 40 years ago. The place is very clean and the older German manager is very nice. However, we checked out after one night because we didn't like Port Antonio and hotels.com had misrepresented the location. Would not recommend staying here.

Was really excited to be travelling to this hotel on Boxing Day. The photos on the website looked amazing and, whilst the buildings are impressive and the setting in the lush greenery of Port Antonio is lovely, I have to say I was a tad disappointed.

The reception staff were less than welcoming and unforthcoming with information (with the exception of the security guards on the gate who were very helpful and friendly). The room was comfortable but basic with no facility for tea/coffee etc which, in this area would have been helpful. The hotel refreshment/restaurant service was very expensive and, it seemed, not popular so we did not feel inclined to try it - neither were we encouraged to.

I think the fact that we were there in December did not help - it was very overcast and rainy and therefore we could not make use of the hotel pool facilities or various outdoor seating areas which for the most part of the year, I am sure, would be idyllic.

Despite asking we could not get comprehensive information about the surrounding area and where would be good places to visit or eat.

The town is quite a walk from the hotel and when walking on the road (no option) you should be very careful about traffic. Taxis are cheap enough although you should be prepared for additional passengers to be picked up along the road as and when they hail the cab and agree the price before you get in. The gatesmen are good at hailing/setting prices when starting from the hotel.

If you are not eating at the hotel then in the town it was very difficult to get anything to eat before lunchtime and still then the choice was limited - however, this could be due to the time of year again.

Considering this was the first tourist port in Jamaica and is apparently geared up for a large number of American visitors, I found this hotel and location to be less than expected. The rest of our stay was spent with family in Yallahs, St Thomas and, whilst not primarily a tourist area, I much preferred it.

The Hotel was very clean, staff was excellent and rooms were big and spacious. This was my husband first visit to Jamaica and he loved every mintue of it. He wants to buy a house on the Island. My children love the hotel and all the birds especially the parrot called Max. They would talk to the parrot every morning before we go into the dinning room for breakfast. Jamaica Palace was beautiful we will definitely be staying there again. My family and I give the hotel two big thumbs up!!!.
