Stayed at Great Huts in February and enjoyed our cabin in the jungle with nature at the doorstep. If you like the idea of falling asleep to the sounds of chirping lizards and the pounding surf, this is the right place. It is comfortable and the food is great. Service is slow, though, so this is not a great spot for young children. All around lovely experience and a wonderful departure from the all-inclusives.

Room Tip: Get a cabin with a view of the beautiful natural beach.

We stayed at Great Huts for the experience, even though it was really out of our budget. It was a great experience. The view from our room was spectacular. The artistic detail put into each room and into the whole grounds was very enjoyable. There was a feeling of safety being behind a locked gate, but the hustlers still managed to make it onto the beach which was supposed to be private. We had pizza for supper, as we had a hankering for back-home food after a week eating true Jamaican food, and it was great pizza, with jerk chicken, and a Jamaican flair to the crust (maybe some cornmeal in it?). We visited in rainy season, so the whole place was a little damp and dark, but I suspect it is quite different in the winter months.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Fig Tree for the great view, right from the bed, or even from the shower, if you ar...

Just got back from 4 nights staying at Great Huts, it was exceptionally beautiful!
We stayed in African sunrise, which I would highly recommend to anybody able to take the climb. We had an almost 360 degree view of the coast and the sea. It was truly breath taking to wake up to every morning. Some days we didn't even want to leave the room it was that nice.

We were given the opportunity to have a look inside some of the other huts which were all very impressive (however do be aware that it is fairly rustic, expect lizards and bugs). I feel like the others were quite dark and didn't have much of a view so if there are 2 of you I would definitely opt for African Sunrise.

The resort staff were friendly enough, however could perhaps be a little too relaxed. I did find this was fairly common in Jamaica, every one is fairly laid back. The staff serving at meal times could do with chirping up a little: a smile and speaking up would have really made a difference.

The food was good and well priced as the main meal came with soup or salad to start included. However I personally was disappointed with breakfast. Eggs.... every day... and no choice of anything else offered. I don't eat eggs so just had a piece of fruit and a slice of toast which wasn't really substantial. A wider choice of food in the morning would really make a difference I feel.

The entertainment on Saturday evening was fantastic. A group of children performed some african/jamaican traditional drumming and dancing. 10/10 to them!

I did find the hot water supply to be a little temperamental and unfortunately the morning we left to embark on a 24 hour journey home there was no water at all. On any other day this would have been only a small issue.

The swimming pool has a spectacular view and was great for relaxing during the day. Unfortunately the water must have left yellow stains on our bathing suits ( hopefully this washes out). Also the bed linen was stained, which i suppose isn't a huge issue as it is clean, however considering the cost you are paying per night I think it wouldn't be a struggle to have no stains. However the cleaning staff were great!

All in all Great Huts is a spectacular place and has so much going for it! I do however feel, with a few small adjustments and consideration it could easily become "paradise on the edge". I had a fantastic time and 100% recommend this resort. Hopefully the owner will take on board a few of the things I have mentioned as it is clear that a lot of love and passion has gone in to building such a stunning resort but it appears you are cutting a few corners that I personally would expect for paying the price we did to stay in African Sunrise.

Thanks for a great few days!!

Great Huts is an experience and vacation like no other. You get to experience the lush nature in Port Antonio, Jamaica first hand. Nestled in what seems like the Jamaican rain forest lies a resort tucked away under these magnificent, magical trees. Individual huts are laid out far away from each other that you don't get disrupted by your neighbours. You are tucked away in your own tree house. Essentially, a childhood fantasy come to life. The rooms are an open concept, yet private. The cooks are friendly, and make fantastic food. I'm very picky and I was satisfied. I was worried about what I could eat and was happy with every meal.
I can express how beautiful the view is over looking the cliffs or just sitting in a hammock listening to the waves crash.
Not to mention, Snoop Dog filmed a music there...if a celebrity chose Great Huts, you know there is something to it!
You will never see or stay at a hotel like this ever again in your life!!!

Room Tip: All the rooms have unique qualities.

I had the most amazing experience at Great huts. From the moment you arrive you are transcended into the culture of jamaica. As a jamaican, i was pleased to see that we had a vacation destination of this kind. Great huts is rustic and romantic lol. The view from my room was magnificent and the food reminded me of home. The staff is professional and helpful. The saturday night cultural show was awesome and had us dancing along with the group. I will definately be going back and taking a few more people with me.

Room Tip: Bamboo Tree house has the most amazing view and the jacuzzi tub is too die for.

I don't know where to begin. This place was everything we hoped for and more. It truly exceeded our expectations.

We stayed in the Bamboo Tree House. Perfect for a couple, romantic and relaxing. The sound of the waves crashing at night, you can't beat it.

Hotel staff was friendly and accommodating, helping us set up various trips and excursions. You MUST, MUST do the bamboo rafting trip down the Rio grande River and the hike up Reach Falls.
Winnifred Beach and taking surf lessons at Great Hut's own Boston Beach were other highlights of our trip.

So many places to relax, so many gorgeous vista points. This place is a real treat, and it's worth the long trip to get there.

Only negatives I can think of is that the morning breakfast can get repetitive (although the coffee is awesome!!) and at night you can be disturbed at times by the dogs howling and sometimes load crickets (but you're in nature, so that's what you signed up for). Also, some of the huts are very close together, and one of the night's we were disturbed by our load neighbors being a tad drunk and boisterous. That was only one night, however, and the majority of guests come here looking for peace and serenity.

I would highly recommend this place. We fell in love with Portland and Great Huts, and we will be back for sure!

Room Tip: It seems that the Sea Grape hut is the most private, but we were thrilled with the layout and the vi...

Great Huts: Paradise on the Edge is an oceanfront resort on the lush northeastern tip of Jamaica. Modeled after a traditional West African coastal village, at once both rough-hewn and modern, it is a convergence of nature, heritage, spirituality and technology. Off the beaten path, but not far from the bustle and night life of Boston Bay and Port Antonio, Great Huts' jungle-cliff-beach habitat is a distinctive ecological and cultural experience. The Africana House, a Rastafari Mansion by the Sea with high ceilings and Ethiopian-inspired decor throughout, has a spacious communal room, four regal bedrooms, a 5,000-square-foot rooftop deck and a lotus-shaped deep water pool, resting atop five acres braided with intriguing caves and hiking trails.
